I was lucky enough to live around the corner for 5 years - but even now, having moved to the central coast, I still make the trip back to see David Vella! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my rabbit. He's professional and caring, taking his time to understand everything about our bunny's health & lifestyle before offering any advice. I've had terrible experiences with other non-exotic vets, who claim to know about rabbits, so David is worth his weight in gold. He's well known across Sydney for good reason!

Brought a ferret in for the first time today to see Dr Joanne Sheen.
She was fantastic with my ferret, whom I took in due to fur loss. First she asked a lot of questions about her living conditions, her diet and her history. Then she gave her a thorough physical examination -- checked all her lymph nodes, examined her teeth, ears and eyes, checked her abdomen for unusual swelling. She took hair and ear samples and checked for mites.
After that, she gave us information on further investigations and treatment ideas, giving us pros and cons for each one as well as how much to expect to pay, and then asked if we had any questions. When we did, she answered each one thoroughly. When it came up that the fact sheet she gave us was out of date, she promised to update it immediately and explained the information that the fact sheet lacked.
After we chose to have an implant for our ferret, she lightly sedated her and did the operation on the spot. Took about 15 minutes, and despite being 6 years old and sedated my ferret was quite bouncy but not at all uncomfortable when I went back in to pick her up. The vet also took the opportunity to give her a more thorough physical examination while my ferret was sedated, and found a couple of things we may want to keep an eye on just in case it turned out to be early signs of other issues.
Overall it was a fantastic, thorough experience; the vet was very friendly and considerate and gave us a lot of space to make our own decisions and made sure we were as informed as possible in order to make them. She was amazing, and I was so happy with her work when I brought my ferret back home!
We had originally wanted to see Dr Vella, but in future I want to stick with this vet for our ferrets!
Two months later my ferret's coat is growing back in wonderfully!

Went for my kitten vaccination and took appointment for desexing. Price mentioned at the time of the booking was in between 200 and 260. On the day of the appointment they announced 400, which when I questioned, they explained it was probably a mistake given me the male price... as I taught maybe they had better equipment and I was already there and planned, I still did it, thinking my cats would be in good hands for this price.
But after bringing my cat back home, she is sneezing, coughing, has some green mucus and is not even able to meow as no voice comes out of her throat despite her trying. When I called today to get some advice, the girl on the phone was really rude mentioning the only thing to do is to come over for a consultation and that it will be 200aud as they cannot tell if this is due to the surgery and may just be a coincidence.
I only have 1 cat and it is an indoor cat hence no chance she got anything at my place particularly when she was all fine before going for the surgery.
This is the worst service I have never experienced and I wish I would have read the negative feedback below before coming.
Going tomorrow to another vet to have her now check for probably a flu (if not worst) but would definitely not come back!

Total rip off! Don't go here. The vet asked me in the consult if I would like a particular test done on my dog's eyes and whether I'd mind if he invited his students in to watch. He said the test wasn't really necessary but it was worth double checking my dog's existing cataract and PRI diagnosis. Seeing no harm in it, I agreed, and he called in 2-3 students and they did the test. Results as expected. When I got to the counter I found I had been charged $400 for the test! On top of the $250 consult fee. Absolutely disgusting. Should be illegal.
Been going to Mosman Vet ever since and they are wonderful, caring, and fair priced.

An absolute rip off!! I was quoted an amount in my consultation. My pet had to stay overnight but no one could give me a reason why and every time I called no one would speak to me. I finally got to pick up my pet only to find out they are charging me double what they had quoted. I had to call about 6 times before I eventually got a call back from the vet the next morning. The vet was lovely and really nice to my pet in the consultation but that is the only nice thing I have to say. I will never be going back here AGAIN!!

Unprofessional customer service. Took my dog in who was on the verge of death. When I asked for a payment plan, the receptionist Becky basically blamed me for not checking the prices before a brought in my dog.
Brought in a very sick baby rabbit before a few years ago. Vet was very unprofessional, had to be reminded to wash her hands, would wipe snot on the back of her sleeve from her nose before touching the rabbit. Disgusting.
For what you pay, you would expect more.

Took my cat here after I noticed he was having difficulty going to the toilet. Given it was a Sunday I had no choice to bring him here. They diagnosed his problem straight away and explained he needed urgent treatment so we admitted him immediately. They took alot of time to explain what was wrong with him and thd procedure he would go through. They also told me up front what the estimated cost of treatment would be. They called me daily to give me updates and he was a happy boy when released. They took time to explain how to administer his medication afterwards as well. Highly professional and friendly. I have also taken several magpies here through WIRES and again very professional and did not treat me any different then when I bring my own pet. Highly recommend.

Took my little dog to the emergency service at night. The attending vet did not do a thorough examination and did not discover a wound which was supposed to be treated. Called the clinic and they asked me to do the treatment myself and did not have the decency to offer complimentary check up, after all it was their fault. I called back in one week to let them know the wound seemed to have worsened. The reception was very keen to schedule an appointment with me but asked me to pay again. I wouldn't take my dog here in the future. Very reckless!

Stupid, stupid, stupid, fat, stupid, pugs. Why do they eat everything? Especially everything that's bad for them and is poison for them and could kill them? Last time it was chocolate, the time before that chewing gum, this time it was half a BBQ chicken, which is so fatty it can give small dogs pancreatitis, and the cooked bones are sharp and brittle and can perforate their intestines. It being a Sunday, the receptionist said I could come in right away when I told her the problem, but that there's a $200 after-hours/emergency fee on top of the normal consultancy etc. Minky couldn't have eaten the chicken during the working week, ohhhhh no. But it's your dog, so of course you're gonna pay it. There was a little wait because they were busy & on a skeleton staff, but the vet, Allan, was really nice and spelled out the risks and my options, enabling me to make an informed decision (he could make her puke, but that's even more dangerous because if the bones lodge in her food pipe they need to open her chest up). So now she's under 48hrs observation for any signs of distress. I'm going grey as we speak. Allan also waived payment, an incredibly kind move - thank you Allan!

I will never trust North Shore Veterinary Hospitals with the care of my cat again. It has so far been the worst experience I have ever had with veterinarians over the past 21 years. Having had plenty of pets in my life, I have been to multiple vets in Australia and overseas and never have I had such bad service or the treatment of my cat. You would think as a veterinarian that they would have the best interest of the cat in mind (they certainly didn't). They have one of the worst reputations as being a huge ripoff along the North Shore.I took my cat into emergency at 12:00am in the morning after she had been throwing up for a few days and was becoming weaker and weaker. I was prepared to pay the whopping fee for emergency vet care because she is my pride and joy. The vet could not tell me what was going on but said she would run some tests. I agreed and said that if the tests went over $700 she should call me. The next day I came to pick up my cat and was told that I had to pay $1200 in addition to the $300 deposit I had already paid. Not only had they ignored my request to notify me of any additional testing, they had not found out what was wrong with my cat, nor had her condition improved. I transported her to my local vet straight away. He was very caring, reasonable and soon found out what was wrong with her. He returned her back to me a week later happy and healthy.I received a partial refund from the North Shore Veterinary Hospital of $250. However, the guy who runs the practice (Peter) was very rude and slammed the phone down. As an animal lover and activist myself, I thought this was very unusual behaviour for a veterinarian. I recommend the Ark Veterinary Hospital in Lindfield. All up it cost me $1500 at the Ark Vet for a WHOLE week of overnight hospital boarding, tests and treatment. Never again will I take my cat to the North Shore Vet Hospital!

She was fantastic with my ferret, whom I took in due to fur loss. First she asked a lot of questions about her living conditions, her diet and her history. Then she gave her a thorough physical examination -- checked all her lymph nodes, examined her teeth, ears and eyes, checked her abdomen for unusual swelling. Took my little dog to the emergency service at night. The attending vet did not do a thorough examination and did not discover a wound which was supposed to be treated. Called the clinic and they asked me to do the treatment myself and did not have the decency to offer complimentary check up, after all it was their fault. I called back in one week to let them know the wound seemed to have worsened. The reception was very keen to schedule an appointment with me but asked me to pay again. I wouldn't take my dog here in the future. Very reckless!

I have been going to this vet for at least 25 - 30 years,both in Alexander St and now in their new premises with my dog and numerous cats. The staff has always been friendly and the vets themselves are knowledgable and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this practice to anyone. I am giving this business five stars because they truly deserve it.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, fat, stupid, pugs. Why do they eat everything? Especially everything that's bad for them and is poison for them and could kill them? Last time it was chocolate, the time before that chewing gum, this time it was half a BBQ chicken, which is so fatty it can give small dogs pancreatitis, and the cooked bones are sharp and brittle and can perforate their intestines. It being a Sunday, the receptionist said I could come in right away when I told her the problem, but that there's a $200 after-hours/emergency fee on top of the normal consultancy etc. Minky couldn't have eaten the chicken during the working week, ohhhhh no. But it's your dog, so of course you're gonna pay it. There was a little wait because they were busy & on a skeleton staff, but the vet, Allan, was really nice and spelled out the risks and my options, enabling me to make an informed decision (he could make her puke, but that's even more dangerous because if the bones lodge in her food pipe they need to open her chest up). So now she's under 48hrs observation for any signs of distress. I'm going grey as we speak. Allan also waived payment, an incredibly kind move - thank you Allan!

I will never trust North Shore Veterinary Hospitals with the care of my cat again. It has so far been the worst experience I have ever had with veterinarians over the past 21 years. Having had plenty of pets in my life, I have been to multiple vets in Australia and overseas and never have I had such bad service or the treatment of my cat. You would think as a veterinarian that they would have the best interest of the cat in mind (they certainly didn't). They have one of the worst reputations as being a huge ripoff along the North Shore.I took my cat into emergency at 12:00am in the morning after she had been throwing up for a few days and was becoming weaker and weaker. I was prepared to pay the whopping fee for emergency vet care because she is my pride and joy. The vet could not tell me what was going on but said she would run some tests. I agreed and said that if the tests went over $700 she should call me. The next day I came to pick up my cat and was told that I had to pay $1200 in addition to the $300 deposit I had already paid. Not only had they ignored my request to notify me of any additional testing, they had not found out what was wrong with my cat, nor had her condition improved. I transported her to my local vet straight away. He was very caring, reasonable and soon found out what was wrong with her. He returned her back to me a week later happy and healthy.I received a partial refund from the North Shore Veterinary Hospital of $250. However, the guy who runs the practice (Peter) was very rude and slammed the phone down. As an animal lover and activist myself, I thought this was very unusual behaviour for a veterinarian. I recommend the Ark Veterinary Hospital in Lindfield. All up it cost me $1500 at the Ark Vet for a WHOLE week of overnight hospital boarding, tests and treatment. Never again will I take my cat to the North Shore Vet Hospital!
