Took my dog there as a nervous puppy, where he got physically handled and verbally reprimanded for things he was doing out of fear (squirming, trying to get away). There was no attempt to soothe or give treats to this nervous puppy and every attempt to scare him into obedience. The vet also continued to recommend nexgard spectra after being told repeatedly that the dog was on three separate treatments, split up over a number of days for flea tick and worming on advice from the breeder. He also didn’t take into account that this dog is fed a partially raw diet and that spectra doesn’t treat for tapeworm found in raw meat. Fast forward about a year and I am dealing with something that needs to be treated urgently around Christmas time. No other vets were able to take us and I figured that despite my misgivings, all we needed was some antibiotics. We arrived and I will admit, the gentleman tried his best to assist me with my reactive dog, but clearly had no idea how to handle fear reactivity, invading the dogs space to try and hand me a muzzle despite an obvious increased reactivity to his proximity. And when the dog finally felt brave enough to approach him passively he waved a hand over his head and forced him to quickly back up in fear and place himself back between my legs. I understand this move for defending ones self but my dog had a muzzle on and was clearly showing signs of appeasement, there was no risk to the vet. This happened at least twice. Misunderstanding dog behaviour this severely on multiple occasions is something that makes me worry for others that present to this vet with behavioural issues. The kicker after all of this was that despite being told my dog was between 35 and 40kg, I later found out from a follow up vet that he had overcharged us and more importantly - dosed the antibiotics for a 20-25 kg dog. Tanya is really amazing. My cat broke his foot and she was really compassionate and helpful with him. She genuinely cared about our concerns and helped him get better the whole way through. I don't think I could have asked for a more caring and understanding vet. To top it all off, after we got his splint taken off she called us weekly to see how he was. This really blew me away because it really feels like she cares about my cats well being. I've honestly never felt the amount of compassion from a vet as I did with her. Thank you so much Tanya.
