Recently, our Beagle Monty, was bitten by a four foot Brown snake in our front yard at Temora. Our local vet was away for the weekend and it was necessary for us to take an emergency drive to Coota whilst talking to Dr Alex on the phone. I have to say what a truly professional team the staff at Cootamundra Vet are, not only was Dr Alex very reassuring over the phone but on arrival everything was ready to swing into action. Swiftly, Dr Alex went to work on Monty, within minutes he had Monty hooked up to a drip and administering antivenin. At this stage Monty had trouble standing on his back legs, his heart was racing and was salivating, all bad signs that the bite was taking its toll. Undeterred, Dr Alex kept working on our boy, his dedication and cheerful demeanour kept our spirits up. Not once did Dr Alex leave Monty's side in the first hour and half. In fact Dr Alex stayed monitoring his condition whilst cramped into a small observation cage for dogs. He stayed with him. Reader, please understand, our Monty in more than just a dog, or pet, he is part of our family he has been everywhere with us and has been that way for the last 9 years. It was Monty's birthday last Sunday and the bite happened Saturday! After two hours Monty started to respond to the antivenin, but wouldn't be out of the woods for the next few days. Over the next few days Dr Alex would call or text us with details of Monty's progress, which I'm pleased to say was, completely successful. I'd like to point out that during an out of hour visit on the day after the bite, Dr Alex had even put up balloons and a 'Happy Birthday' banner for our boy. Talk about dedication! Reader, what I'm trying to say is, it's hard to put into words, but briefly. I cannot recommend the staff of Cooper St Vets at Cootamundra highly enough. Dr Alex, you are an asset to the practice, your dedication to animal husbandry and professional attitude goes far above and beyond your duties. You guys aren't running a business, you are angels!Read Less
