We took our dog to this vet for emergency eye consultation because his stitches had come out from surgery from another vet who botched the procedure. The eye specialist there agreed to do the surgery to fix the problem the following week or earlier because it was an open wound. Well, they never once rang back, even after 5 calls to their office. The last call was a complaint that they took money from me for a consultation for surgery that they said they would do but clearly were not interested in, the girl in the office said the manager would call me. Never did! I made a complaint to the Veterinary Practitioners Board. for violating section 8 under the "code of practice 2013 ". Very unprofessional. Read Less

Do not ever go to the opthamologist Matt Annear here! If I could leave no stars, I would! My cat has had Eosinophilic Keratitis since January. After my first consultation, Matt gave me 3 eyedrops to give her which made no difference at all. Matt advised the next option was surgery to remove the plaque in her eye to speed up the healing process but advised there is only a 50% chance this could work. After surgery, the plaque started to return after a week. At my post op appointment 2 weeks after surgery, Matt broke the news that my cat now has cancer in her eye and needs to go for surgery again only 2 weeks after her initial operation. I was extremely upset as I had just pulled out a loan to pay for the first surgery and knew I may not be able to open a second loan to remove the cancer from her eye before it started to spread. I thought it was about time I get a second opinion. On Monday, the 12th of April, I went to another opthamologist who pulled up all of my cat's records from ARH. Matt had never made note of having found cancer in my cats eye and they confirmed she does not have cancer. After just 3 days of using the eyedrops they supplied, my cats eye no longer has any more plaque, she is no longer squinting and no longer has a cloudy film over her eye. Her eye is almost as clear as her good eye in just 3 days! Fifi didn't even need to go through surgery the first time!!! Her eyedrops just needed to be changed up! They are money hungry people who do not care about your pets!! The receptionists have always been rude every time I've been there. Matt is a charlatan! He never explained anything properly, he always gave me uncertain answers, he never treated my cat in front of me so I have no idea what was being done or how she was being handled or if anything was being done at all for every $300 consultation I paid for! A dangerous place for your pet. I brought my cat in last week as she hadn't eaten all day and was looking ill, but was still alert and herself. She spent about 48hrs at ARH Homebush and returned to me in a state of collapse, incoherence and was brain dead. At no stage did anyone at the ARH advise me of her deteriorating condition, and instead continued to charge me well in excess of $4000 for treatment that somehow led her to become catatonic. I had no choice but to put her down. I have raised an urgent issue with them and I still haven't heard anything. I do not trust this place and it's staff, and I urge you to not bring your pet here, and certainly don't leave them there overnight. Read Less

However the costing of all items I found quite staggering really.Staff spared no pains to inform me of the myriad of tests that could be performed and their attached costs.I just couldn't help leaving with the feeling that the hospital was a very expensive moneymaking concern well beyond the capacity to pay of less welloff people whose only recourse in some cases would have to be euthanasia or continuing with their local vet who is not sufficiently equipped to deal with their problem. It is definately the worst vet/hospital/emergancy I've ever been to in my life. Took our dog there a week ago as his back legs were not functioning. After waiting one hour for them to have a vet take a look at him they dignosed him with having a tick and said he needs to stay at hospital and be recovered after 2 days. 5 hours after they called us at 11 pm saying that after shaving the dog they can't find a tick entry point and he might be having a spinal injury. the vet said at this point he still has deep pain feeling which is great and he has to show him to a sergeon to make sure he is right in his dignosis and if so our dog needs to go under surgury right away. At that point I rushed to the emergancy room and after seeing how destressed "Chich" was I asked to get him an emergancy care sergeon to take a look at him. they said the sergons wont be in until the day after at 9 am. they had a second check on Chich's deep pain and realised he doesn't have deep pain at this point so they said for an extra charge of $1400 they will get him an emergancy sergeon to have look but the sergeon is already in another sergery and Chich has to wait. At 4 am they called and said they finally had a look at chich and figured that he has a spinal injury but since he at this point lost his deep pain feelings he wont have more than 60% percent chance of recovery but since his best chance is still surgery they think we should strongly consider the option. They said the surgery costs $14,000 and if I dont make a deposit of $7,000 they won't do anything for him. we paid the deposit and ask for the surgery to be done which was delayed another couple of hours as sergeon was doing sonething else. Long story short after paying $14000 and 12 hrs later they finally they did the surgery but "too little, too late". Our dog been pralyised since then. the place is a ...hole. the staff just pass you from one to another and you never get a straight answer. the sergeon himself apparanly went off to a vacation after the surgery and we couldnt get him on the phone to figure out what the Heck he has done. Terrible is not bad enough word to describe what they put us through in this hospital. I feel I have been taking advantage and my emotions for my dear dog has been neglacted. I took my dog back from them after5 day stay and transferred him to SASH. I truly wish I knew sooner what type of place and people I am dealing with, otherwise I would never step in this place. I take them responsible for getting to my dog 15 hrs later and leaving him parlysed. If I could I’d give them a negative rating. The most horrible vet ever. They should be told that if they don’t have emergency care and staff why to call themselves a hospital... if they need 15 hrs to get to an emergency case then they definitely don’t qualify for a emergency care. From the time she entered the hospital the care and passion shown to her and me from the vet, vet nurses and reception staff was just amazing. I have had a very positive experience with this vet hospital. I approached with some trepidation as I had a Burmese cat with severe dental issues. I was worried about her outcome and the cost. Christine Hawke looked after us and she was amazing; kind, empathetic and lovely in the way she handled my cat, who responded very positively to her. Considering she was in a vet practice, with dogs etc, that was somewhat surprising. Her outcome has also been brilliant. She is a happy toothless cat :) She has no problem with her lack of teeth and no after effects. She's happy and healthy and so am I as a result. I can wholeheartedly recommend this practice and all those within :) Thank you ARH and the lovely Christine :) Read Less

I couldn’t have been more happy with the after hours service I was provided with. I had called before bringing my 8 week old puppy in and they took him strait off me before signing any paperwork - I then knew my little pup was in fantastic hands. When they brought him back out to me after what I imagine would have been a traumatic experience for a pup he was wagging his tail and not even fussed. When the vet came out he was wagging his tail in excitement - this says something that the care and love these people have for their animals and your animals they feel it. This was amazing to see & they were also so informative and talked me through what was happening and how to proceed. I would not hesitate In taking my pup or any other animals here. Thank you SO much to all the amazing staff at the Animal Referral Hospital for my recent experience there with my sick cat. I arrived at about 9pm on a Wednesday night, during emergency hours. I was very distressed (i.e. freaking out!) about my fur-baby but the lady at reception was brilliant and helped ease my concerns immediately, and she called a nurse out straight away to check her over. She was so considerate and empathetic to my distress. I know they were very busy with other more serious emergencies that night because those emergencies literally came rushing in the doors in front of me while I was waiting in the waiting room! Thus I was left waiting for another 1.15 hours before I actually saw the vet, but the receptionist kept me in the loop the whole time about how long the wait would be and kept coming over to check on my baby. I felt like even though they were run off their feet with more critical emergencies, I was still important to them and I was still on their radar. Then when I finally saw the vet (I think her name was Sarah?) she was so kind and compassionate. She explained everything in a way that made perfect sense, about exactly why they were going to do each test, why she would need to be hospitalised, and she gave me an exact breakdown of estimated costs. Yes it was expensive but you have to expect that at an emergency/after-hours vet hospital. Before I left, the lovely receptionist told me I could call any time to check on her condition overnight. I really felt so at ease leaving my baby in their care. I did end up calling the hospital at 1am to check on my cat and the nurse was so obliging, despite being so busy! You can really tell these people go the extra mile to reassure worried parents like me. Anyway my precious fur-baby ended up staying in hospital for an extra night which meant the estimated bill pretty much doubled, but the vet explained this to me thoroughly on the phone in the morning before they went ahead with any further treatment so I knew what was happening. Overall I am SO impressed with their comunication, professionalism and level of compassion. So relieved I have discovered these guys so early in my cat's life, they will definitely be my first port of call in any emergency!! Will be recommending ARH to all my friends and relatives should they ever need emergency vet care. Thanks again ARH. Read Less

I have been to ARH many times over the past few years with several of my pets and have had nothing but great service and they have ALWAYS looked after my pets. I even brought in an injured stay dog and injured magpie in the past which they took in and looked at straight away. It's sad to see all these people complaining about them being overpriced, yes it's more expensive than a regular vet but they are specialist and are open 24/7. My Husky had an issue that 2 different regular vets could not solve but ARH found the issue and solved it. Honestly, my pets health and wellbeing is worth more than what any vet or specialist would charge. A+ to you ARH. P.S. If you don't want to be 'over charged' for your pets health then get pet insurance if your pet qualifies for it. Read Less

Make you wait 3 hours , Rush the appointment missing out on a critical issue and slog you with a massive bill. I call BS. I took our small dog in for an injured paw late last week - due to after 7pm it came under emergency and a differing price structure. Ok. Fair enough. On approach a nurse asked us if the paw was bleeding heavily or in massive distress - pup was calm so we said no. Told it wouldn't take long. Fast forward almost 3 hours later , numerous drop offs and riff raffing by the staff we were admitted. Nurse had a quick look , took our pup and cleaned up , inspected and bandaged her up and sent us on our way. Minus $260.00 for our troubles. By "inspect" I mean look at and no more - upon my own inspection whilst changing the bandage revealed a paw devoid of middle claw and closest toe joint plus a shag of rotting flesh and pus. It was like the vet simply washed it and bundled it together like a pork roast and hoped for the best. Making sure our pup was comfy we took her to the local RSPCA for another inspection to which they didn't muck about. Straight into surgery and picked up the next day. My dog could of lost her entire foot , possibly even her life thanks to the lack of professionalism of ARH. I was going to go in and demand a refund , or take this up with the department of fair trading but I strongly feel this business is owned by Lawyers.Read Less

I recently had to take my little girl Poppy down to the ARH, after a bad fall off the varandah. It was fairly busy when I got there. A nurse came very quickly out to reception to do an initial check of her. She took her out the back for a pain relief injection, while I filled out paperwork and waited for the vet. After only 10 minutes I was greeted by a lovely vet and taken into a consulting room. The vet suspected a dislocated hip (based on how she was holding it). X-Ray's later confirmed this and she was kept at the hospital overnight while she had her leg strapped and stabilised. Poppy is now home and happy (well, she will be once she's finished her cage rest). All in all, I felt I had a very pleasant experience. We took our dog to this vet for emergency eye consultation because his stitches had come out from surgery from another vet who botched the procedure.

Read Less

Read Less
