I’ve had a terrible experience at this vet, that resulted in a significant misdiagnosis of my cat eventually resulting in death and will never take any animal of mine back here, ever.
My cat was presenting with a hematoma in her eye and upon examination, Hugh could not identify any diagnosis, and prescribed painkillers. Some days later with no resolution, I brought my cat back and he then stated he thought she had chlamydia in her eye and COULD NOT see the hematoma present in her eye, even after myself blatantly pointing it out to him. He prescribed some eye drops for chlamydia.
After this I got a second opinion from another local vet, who advised me they had never seen this presentation in a feline before and rang SASH immediately and secured an urgent appointment the next day with the ophthalmologist and proper diagnosis took place. Unfortunately, my cat had to be put to sleep.
I also had my Labrador desexed here and half an hour after surgery they called me to collect him, not even fully out of anaesthetic and told me to take him home because he was distressed from the cages. No help or advice given whatsoever on how to best manage my groggy buddy and had to carry him to the car alone.
Please take care of your pets and don’t take them to Bateau Bay Vet clinic.

Had a pup de-sexed and first lot of Vaccinations here. Service was fine, though they have told me that, since they do not have online access to registration databases, i'll need to drive in to the council offices at Wyong and present the certificate of de-sexing, in person, in order to register the dog on the LGA database. Not ideal and other Vet clinics will do this for you as part of their service.

The care given to my animals has always been excellent. The vet went above and beyond when we had a midnight emergency. The pricing is the most reasonable I have come across.

Just dropped my dog off to be desexed as it was prebooked through claws and paws and the woman behind the counter was rude and unprofessional. Looking through the reviews I wish I didnt have to take him there now. Not happy at all. Hope my little guy will be ok. Deadset disgraceful for a company and not a good first impression at all.

Wonderful. I wish I could give Hugh and the team more stars. They are incredibly friendly, helpful, generous with their time, and caring of distressed humans and animals both. They are also really reasonable in terms of affordability. I feel very lucky to have found such a great vet for our clumsy dog.

My cat was hit by a car and the first 2 vets i went to offered euthanasia followed by amputation :, (
Dr Hugh fix my kitty almost as good as new (kitty tried to jump and messed up all of the Drs hard work that then had to be redone) but the Dr was very empathetic to the fact i was a single mum on a tight budget so did everything in his power not to break the bank while going above and beyond for our very much loved fury family member.
This man truly is a remarkable man who truly goes above and beyond for the love of animals (even if he hasn't got the best bed side manners, i wouldn't trust anyone else with our little family members)

My mother poured alot of money into this clinic with both of our pets, She raved about how wonderful Hugh was with the animals......i don't doubt his Vet skills/knowledge What i do not like is the fact they put my cat down by mistake, no signatures/confirmations required. Someone at the front counter clicked "euthenaise" and he just did it with my mum there trying to keep my cat calm (who was in for a possible thyroid injection). He might be a good vet, but from what i have heard/seen more cases like ours, the processes that they employ are not good enough. He handed my mother our cats body and was kind enough to say "no charge", soo thankful. My mother had spent a small fortune with that clinic over the years, and it all ended like that.

I have just read the story in the express advocate by Blaise, and while i feel sad and have empathy for her situation, i have been going to Bateau Bay Vets for over 10 years and know Hugh and his team are professional and caring. I have taken several of my dogs to them over time, Millie, had bad arthritis, and needed dental work.(sadly dec.) Wiggles at the age of 16 weeks, was near death... cause unknown, then again at a year later, Hugh and the team with their expertise, love and care throughout, several ops later Ms Wiggles made a full recovery, she went there after being hit by a car, and broke her little back legs, has been there for ear problems, and most recently for Epilepsy...Wiggles will be 11 this year, i have had many dealings with this surgery over these years and they are always compassionate, to me , my family and my babies. I can just pop in and ask questions, or ring and they are always willing to help, I recommend this surgery to everyone, unfortunately human error happens, but they are always SO busy, which really is testament to the practice, and Dr Hugh. Thanks guys for All you hard work .

Please don't take your animal to bateau bay vets. They euthanised my dog ( not what I had a problem with ) then gave me until the end of march to pay the bill. ( not what I had a problem with ) then the day my friend goes to pick up his body ( pre arranged a week ago ) she finds out that they have disposed of his body by mistake without our consent. In an effort to Reclaim some credibility t they wrote off the bill. When I call d up the practice manager Angela, in tears having been sedated, I found her both rude, evasive an incompetent. She kept bringing up the bill ( which we still have 9 days to clear and which would have been cleared tomorrow as arranged ). She then alleged she treated my dog for free ( she hasn't because I already paid 30% of the bill ) and that me leaving an honest review was a slander campaign. When I asked how being honest was slanderous she hung up and shut their facrbook site so that my review couldn't be seen. The other reviews call d them everything from rude, butchers and incompetent. Please for the sake of your animals , steer clear.

I dont know why there are so many bad reviews. Hugh doesnt speak in the most simple terms (he speaks his vet language) BUT he knows his stuff!!!! The girls in there are also all wonderful!!!! Our poor...

Our poor pug had really bad prolapse and another vet couldnt help us and gave us no hope pretty much saying it was the worse case he had seen and referred us to Bondi Vet down in Sydney - with a HEFTY price tag and no gaurantees....
Upset and having no hope we went to Hugh expecting the worst... He was in his element fixing something that wasn't an everyday problem. We cannot thank him enough for saving our girl and how little it cost compared to what it would have.... Hugh and the team are amazing and I would not go anywhere else and recommend to everyone! Thank you!!!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this vet! Sadly we have had to have two dogs put down in the last twelve months & the most recent being today. Hugh came to our house to put our beautiful old girl to sleep at an extremely reasonable price. He is an absolute genius when it comes to animals. He may not be much of a people person, but what counts is his compassion towards the animals he deals with...I for one will say a massive thank you to you all, you are all wonderful...Kim

If i could rate them a zero i would, got our dog desexed through them. Firstly, the people working there were rude the entire time (enough for me to of gone somewhere else if it wasn't for the pound b...
If i could rate them a zero i would, got our dog desexed through them. Firstly, the people working there were rude the entire time (enough for me to of gone somewhere else if it wasn't for the pound booking her in before we adopted her). Secondly, when our dog came out she was drenched in and smelling of urine, how long she was laying in it I'm not sure. The place did not look clean in any sense of the word. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They're cheap for a reason, don't go there. Have since heard they do desexing without anesthetic/only under local anesthetic, this is torturous and barbaric.

I’ve had a terrible experience at this vet, that resulted in a significant misdiagnosis of my cat eventually resulting in death and will never take any animal of mine back here, ever.

Dr Hugh fix my kitty almost as good as new (kitty tried to jump and messed up all of the Drs hard work that then had to be redone) but the Dr was very empathetic to the fact i was a single mum on a tight budget so did everything in his power not to break the bank while going above and beyond for our very much loved fury family member.
This man truly is a remarkable man who truly goes above and beyond for the love of animals (even if he hasn't got the best bed side manners, i wouldn't trust anyone else with our little family members)
