We have had both our cats treated and boarded at the Pyrmont Vet. The staff have always gone above and beyond to assist us with our pets. The head vet, Sally, well and truly exceeded our expectations in her care for our previous cat before he died. She was truly marvellous and incredibly caring. Staff are amazing, so caring and you can tell they love what they do. They have taken wonderful care of my older cat for years and now have shown the same care for my new kitten. The staff take an interest in their patients and have an immense amount of knowledge which they impart in terms that general public pet owners can easily understand. As a former employee (nurse) the comments left by Erin are disappointing. As all the staff at Pyrmont Vet Hospital go above and beyond for our patients AND clients. I can personally recall, when I was at the clinic after hours (approx. an hour after close) Erin frantically banged on the closed door of the clinic in a panic, as one of her dogs had just been stung by a bee. As I was still there and wanted to make sure both her and her dogs were ok, I opened the door and had a quick check of the dog. I then called one of our vets (who had just gotten home), called in a favour and got the vet to drive back to the Pyrmont clinic specifically to see this one dog after hours to ensure it was ok. This vet was also young and "looked straight out of school" but was a qualified and profession caring vet who put in time and effort off the clock to see this patient. The vet did a full examination and prescribed/administered the necessary medications for treatment. She was then charged a normal consultation fee (NOT an after hours call back fee for both a vet and a nurse). It is disappointing when staff members go out of their way to ensure the wellbeing of patients in their own time and yet this is quickly forgotten. I know on numerous occasions, both the vets and nurses stay back hours or call in on days off to check up on patients or make phone calls to clients on days off, this is not something that they charge for or are paid for. Congratulations Pyrmont Vet, you have successfully lost my business after what I can only describe as a disgraceful phone call with owner Shane Abood (who is not a vet) and his rude, condescending way he spoke to me on the phone. On the 23rd Dec, I was told to if I wanted to catch a vet I had to make an appointment which I did reluctantly for 11am the next day as they were very busy which I understood. Being the concerned owner I was, I did a walk in earlier that next morning as I was walking past and they kindly assisted me in the reception area. All I needed was a quick check of my dog's chest to verify what I was hoping was not a tick. After saying it wasn't something to worry about, the young girl, who would only have been not long out of school, then lured me into the surgery to give my dog a quick check of his heart beat and teeth. I had not requested this. THIS TOOK NO LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES and I was whacked with an extortionate $70 charge. I called the vet that afternoon as it bothered me and wanted to discuss this with someone. I never got a call back. I am a reasonable person and appreciate the cost of living is expensive but to charge me $70 when I said I did not want an appointment but just a quick double check for reassurance from a professional is outrageous to say the least. I did not need any further checks and this is where I was taken advantage of. When explaining this on the phone to Shane Abood (after asking a second time for someone to call me back to discuss) I was met with a very rude and obnoxious tone and then the blatant accusation that I was lying to him about the appointment when I was explaining to him the story, he would not let me finish my sentence and spoke over the top of me. Saying and I quote "You wouldn't go to the Doctor to get something checked out and expect not pay.. would you?" I'm sorry but I call this very, very poor business. It made me feel bullied and completely disrespected as a customer of 2 or so years, so I am taking my business elsewhere. I know many dog owners in the Pyrmont area and have already passed my experience on to a few already, they are disgusted and said will also be taking their business elsewhere. Read Less

This place is so great my puppy will drag me in there if we walk past just so she can say hi to the staff. You can tell they really do care about the animals there which makes them feel more relaxed and comfortable about being checked out which makes me feel better. They're open till 7 on week days which is a big bonus if you work and it's usually pretty easy to get an appointment the same day you call. Read Less

Took my new kitten here for her first check up and the vet was very thorough. A word of warning though, it can be a little more expensive than expected. The vet did an ear swab for ear lice, and charged us approx $65aud for the pleasure. Had I known it was going to be that much, I would have said don't bother as the kitten didn't have any ear muck, and the drops we put on her would have killed them anyway. Was it really needed? i didn't think so. Overall I would recommend as I would prefer the vet to be thorough and expensive rather than lazy and cheap, as it means the animal is getting the best attention. Next time however I will research what is needed prior to visiting, so I don't get caught out with 'nice-to-dos'. They do have a good selection of toys and food available for purchase. Read Less
