Such a horrible place, staff are so rude, I'd never take an animal there for treatment.

I was a customer for 15 years. My dog was diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome and advised that it is expensive to treat. I decided to go ahead and have the illness treated although I was warned it would be expensive. All was fine until a staff member accidentally left the compounding chemist' invoice to the vet with the medication and I became aware that the vet's cost for 50 days supply was $470 but he was charging me $870 so a $400 profit on medication ALONE. I was even travelling to Thornton from Newcastle after we moved out of loyalty. Once I discovered how much I was being overcharged I wrote an email to complain. Dale was away on holidays but a staff member advised he would be in contact. This is now over 3 months ago and I'm still waiting. I have been under quotes for work in the past to be told that Dale forgets items. The verbal quote was not honoured. When I have been undercharged when items were left off the bill I always paid it on the next visit. I no it's cruel to take advantage of an animals suffering and people's emotions even more so when you're a loyal customer who has taken several animals to the practice. That said, the vet nurses are wonderful, friendly and accommodating. I now go the the RSPCA at Tighes Hill. The staff are good and I got a script for the medication that I now order myself from the chemist saving 400 bucks every 50 days. The consultations and monthly testing is half the price, arthritis injections are cheaper and the other medication on the shelf is cheaper also. Read Less

Not even worthy of 1 star. I brought my dog in who had swelling and bruising on her stomach where she has had previous surgeries and tumors removed. Dale the vet spent more time disgustingly looking at my crouch as he knelt down to my dog. Feeling uncomfortable I knelt down also. After being given no more information than I had already worked out myself Dale prescribed antibiotics and gave one to my dog then and there without telling me what it was or how much this medication would cost. I then headed back to the front desk where I was given the total of over $170. I asked what this was for. Just the consultation and 1 week of antibiotics. I asked how much the antibiotics are. $103 I told the vet that that is ridicules and I have never had to pay this amount for medication before. I asked if there was anything else I could have. Dale came over and tried to explain that these are very strong antibiotics and if I can pay for them the next day. I explained that it's not that I can not afford this but I won't pay that when I know it's not necessary. I was then charged the consultation fee and $30.60 for a single tablet that Dale had given my dog without even asking or quoting me for. I then drove my dog to a different vet where in just a few minutes I was told what was wrong with her, why it had happened and what we need to do in the future, how and what costs I would be looking at. This was a vet that has never seen my dog before and had no medical history for her. This vet prescribed a course of antibiotics within seconds of me being there and explained that these are the best to treat soft tissue infection. Consultation and medication for $60. I will never go back to Thornton Veterinary Clinic. I have dealt with far too many vets having an older dog with cancer who is now prone to different problems and it is infuriating how many vets have zero compassion and only see $$$$. Not to mention having someone stare at your groin rather than your face. 😡 Read Less

Had one of the dogs at Irrawang yesterday with Dale as an emergency appointment. He was really gentle with the dog, took his time making him feel comfortable and safe before treating him.

Our little Fox Terrier needed a leg amputation recently. The staff went above and beyond in helping me transport her from Thornton clinic to R Terrace by coming in the car with me. Then during her stay they included us and didn't make me leave as they were stabilizing her and when my husband turned up they let him see her straight away. We were told to take all the time we needed with her. This was comforting as we were very emotional. I found all staff to be helpful, positive and compassionate .
