Absolutely Disgusted.
BOTTOM LINE:GO TO GREENCROSS VETS
In my life I have had 3 female cats, all who have been desexed and recovered perfectly within a matter of days. After having my girl desexed I was instructed by a nurse to give her half her normal portion of food, to have her confined to a room that was quiet and dark, given examples such as a laundry, bathroom or bedroom. I was informed that she would be drowsy & tired for the following 24 hours, & that if at ANY point I was concerned at all between the date she had the procedure & the 14 days following before she had her stitches out that I could bring her back in and have her checked, be given extra medications & be given care under the surgery she had just had DAY OR NIGHT. From previous experience at other vets, I knew this all to be true.
As instructed, I bought her home to mums room & into her kitty bed that I would have to say she has spent over half of her life span relaxing & sleeping in. At 11pm that evening, I awoke to my usually affectionate & content kitten now grunting & panting, running havoc around the room with pupils the size of her eyes. I placed her into her material mesh carrier in an attempt to calm my furry little girl, only to have her roll around inside the carrier & become quite distressed. After a minute of that behaviour I removed her to find that there was one stitch intact, & that she was making noises I could only compare to a puppy whining.
At this point I thought it imperative to call the "expert." I explained the situation to the employee who answered, which I was then told that the vet would call me back.
Upon getting the phone call back and after explaining this situation another 5 times to what seemed one very uninterested man, & asking repeatedly for instruction on what I should do with the same tiresome response of "I don't know because I can't see it" I spurted out in a panic "Can I bring her in please?" The rude and sarcastic response I got was "Well yeah, you'll have to won't you?"
I was at the vet in 20 minutes & met the older "gentleman" (a term I am using very loosely) I had the pleasure of speaking to on the phone. Again, I had to explain what happened & I asked what could of caused this. No response, other than he'll be here with all the animals tonight, that only two stitches had come out on the exterior & that because she had eaten she would need to be monitored and wouldn't be able to come home until 4pm the next day. I was given a belittling speech about how this would've affected me if I had undergone the surgery & how the right thing to do would be to go home and rest and what would happen if I had done what she had done. I walked out feeling stupid, given the impression by someone who could see how concerned I was that I had bought her home & attempted to do circus tricks with her.
As any worried owner, I rang at various points of the day to see how she was going. I was told that all had gone well & that she would be fine to come home at 4pm.
Upon arriving at 3:45, I spoke to the employee at the desk who asked if I would like to fix up the account now. Unaware of ANY price, I was shown that it was more than what I had actually paid for the complete procedure the previous day. I opted to speak to the vetenarian. I asked him politely why had this happened to her & why had I not been told at ANY point during the previous evening or the following day of an additional cost. Wide eyed at these questions, I was laughed at & asked to have a look at myself. He pointed to her cat carrier & said "that's a confined space." Even after the way she was behaving in it last night? I was given salty responses such as "Exactly, when I had to come in and look after YOUR cat, who's going to pay me for getting out of bed?", "What kind of owner lets their cat who's just had surgery go home to a bedroom" & "yeah don't ever come in here again."
I will take him up on that offer. Had I have waited until my normal vets were available this certainly wouldn't have happened. At the very least, they care & take pride in their careers. Read Less
