Called after hours on the 17/1/17 during the night for an emergency. My dog was weak, collapsing, had pale gums, rapid breathing, was vomiting and had not eaten. The vet wasn't interested in opening up and kept telling me to come back when they were open in the morning!! Kuranda Veterinary Surgery saw my dog instead where he was diagnosed with diabetes and was severely hypoglycemic. Hypoglycemia can lead to seizures, coma, and death, which can all happen very suddenly. Marlin Coast Veterinary Hospital advertise they provide an after-hours emergency service, yet only if they can be bothered getting out of bed! Read Less

Our dog Sheriff had a rocky last 12 months. I can't emphasise enough the wonderful care we had under vet Kristen Bell. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. We had our darling boy put to rest today. Kristine was empathic, caring, considerate and so thoughtful. She explained the process and allowed my son Kris and I the time to grieve. Our dog Charlie got bitten by a Taipan snake in June 2016. We are so thankful for Dr Sam's quick response and her continued dedication to Charlie's health and keeping him alive. The team at Marlin Coast Vets have been absolutely fantastic. Charlie is resting up at home and misses Dr Sam lots - who he fell in love with. We cannot thank the team enough, their personal attention, keeping us in touch throughout this time, sending us photos and calling us a throughout the days updating us on his condition was calming and extremely appreciated. We have been taking our dog, and now dogs here for 3 years. The staff are caring,friendly, helpful and efficient. No excessive waiting. The vets are knowledgeable and sincerely concerned for our dogs' well-being. We have had routine checks, vaccinations and one dog de-sexed. We did not find it overly expensive, but we have not shopped for prices. The location is convenient for us. Also, they have a nice new building that was purpose-built. Update: yesterday, I took my sick dog to the vet. I was there at 8 AM when it opened. I thought my dog had been bitten by a paralysis tick as she was dragging her back legs. I had to wait just 5 minutes to see a vet. He was able to diagnose her quickly: macademia nut poisoning. I unintentionally poisoned my dog with macademia nuts. It can be fatal. They treated her during the day, and I picked my dog up at 6:45 PM. This morning my dog is back to normal. I appreciate that the vet was so quick to respond and treat my dog. Everyone that I have met there is nice and seems to sincerely love animals. Read Less

Listen, if you need an emergency for a serious injury to your dog, you won't find a better vet, but Marlin Coast will COST you. Just driving by the place and looking at it will cost you. My dog just had an injury, and we missed closing time by 5 min. Had to pay for after hour rates. Getting an eyelid sewn up cost $1200, but as I said, I wouldn't trust another vet after hours for serious injuries For just your daily checkups etc. there are definitely cheaper and just as competent vets in Cairns. For serious business though, ya, use Marlin Coast.Read Less
