My middle aged dog has suffered from allergies all his life and now that he's getting older they have progressively become worse. I've had him at 5 other vets, having left with little support or relief for him. Yesterday he had a terrible reaction again and his whole face swelled up as though he'd been stung by a bee. His breathing and swollowing was compromised also. So again, I rang the Animal Welfare League in Tiger Street and they took him in. My treating veterinarian was Jodiπwow, what a caring thorough professional. She checked him over, carried out tests and gave me multiple options to which I requested that she treat him how she thought and felt best for him. He had a ruff night, however today he's up sticky beaking and the swelling has almost all gone down. I'm so very grateful for Jodi's professional advice and patient care. This is a low cost vet, which is great. Our dog needed to get some teeth extracted and we got 3 quotes. This vet was about 20% cheaper than the second cheapest. The only thing they can't do in terms of dental work is x-rays. So why only two stars? I dropped our dog off and said the the receptionist please ask the vet to extract any teeth he/she considers borderline. I repeated the same instruction to the nurse who admitted our dog. (Staff are really nice.) On picking up our dog the vet said that he removed 5 teeth and there was one, a molar, which was borderline, which he left. The cost was $645. Now in a year or two we will have to repeat this cost. Suddenly, simply because they did not communicate this very basic instruction it is not the most expensive vet! I cannot recommend this veterinary surgery. If they had done what we asked, it would have been a four star review. Read Less

When we rang we asked if the Animal Welfare League at Ipswich had an Avian Vet and explained the symptoms and we were told 'yes she is very experienced'. We had awoken that morning to our pet breathing funny and appeared quite unwell. By consultation time one look at our pet you could see he was in distress. Still we were made to wait in the waiting room for about 1.5 hours after our booked consultation time while they attended to stream after stream of minor things such as a dog who's owner was asking about flea powder and a cat owner asking about worming tablets. In the meantime our pet appeared to be getting sicker. Eventually we were seen. On top of all the fees charged to us was $25.00 for a few grams of what turned out to be a vitamin powder readily available for approx $12.95 for about 100grams. Turns out this definitely would not of been of help to our pet in anyway. We were desperate to save our little mates life. We asked if the vet could keep him in for treatment overnight. The answer, 'no, we don't do that here'. She told us to go and buy a product. We drove around for hours looking for it. We also had friends and other family driving around looking for it too plus making call after call to pet shops and other vet clinics. We could not find it in stock anywhere. We ended up dropping our pet off at a relatives house where he died while we were still trying to find this product that the vet told us to get. Turns out this product would not saved our pets life anyway so it was a waste of valuable time that should of been spent with our dying pet. I absolutely dispise the lack of care and treatment shown towards our beloved family member. We do not recall the vet giving us her name and it does not appear on the $200+ bill given to us either. We were $$$ supporters before this but not anymore. Read Less

I've read a few of the reviews here and felt I had to leave one myself although I wouldn't normally. No one likes vet bills. As specially when dealing with the possibility of loosing a cherished pet.
Over the years I've been to AWL Ipswich vet quiet a few times both for myself and with friends and their pets. While I certainly would have a preference on who to see there, all the staff have always been compassionate and professional regardless.
While they can on occasion discount some of their fees for a few genuine hardship cases sadly it's obvious that word of this has got around and now far too many expect it.
Try and keep in mind that AWL has to meet its operating expenses too. They can't help everyone for free or they would have to close shop.
The sadness you may go through imagine what it must be like for them dealing with this day after day 6 days a week year in year out often with no appreciation for their efforts.
Life would be pretty lonely without a pet. Imagine growing up as a child with no cat π or dog π in your life to love. Or the elderly. often at home alone in their final years withoutβ the comfort of a loving pet. Be thankful AWL's here to help at all.-.-. Read Less

I took our cat in due to a tick bite and wanted to know my options, as soon as we got there she wanted to charge $1500 which is 3x the other two vets I had called prior to going in. Considering the cat had been to this vet before I thought they would be compassionate and understanding of the financial situation my family was under. $1500 is excessive when they only charge $100 to euthanise. So we had NO other option as they would not help us.
Once I had said we needed to euthanise her due to money issues the vet was rude, insensitive and wouldn't let us say goodbye to OUR pet. We took our very sick little dog to this clinic after receiving very average treatment at our regular vet. Their care and consideration was outstanding. The vet who looked after our little family member, went to no end of trouble explaining the situation with great compassion for both our little dog and myself. I think the vet spent two hours with me explaining likely outcomes and options with great honesty and as it turned out great accuracy. I came away feeling that I was her only client.
We lost our little dog, she had to be euthanased and this was carried out with the same care we had always received.
Nine months later and we have just adopted another little dog, not as a replacement, nothing could replace that little dog, but to try to fill the void. Needless to say I will be taking this little one to the same caring place even though it is a considerable distance from my home.
