Heartless, Money making machine Clinic on Anzac Highway, Kurralta Park, SA Just for the record, Sunday night visit with the drips and infusion overnight $4,500 plus couple of days of examination after, about $10,000 without assurance that my beloved little darling would even make it through the night. First they through at you is the price. While you are in emotional pain crying about heart breaking decision you must make when they leave you to say good buy to your angel, next minute they are loudly laughing next door to you. At that moment I didn’t hear them because I was beside my self saying goodby to my little angel but my husband did cough on camera. Deeply deeply disappointed left this clinic, heart broken with irreparable pain. I wish I never walked in there They are only money making machine PS If all vets are cold like this girl was on a Sunday night 23/1/22, perhaps we are better off never to have animals. Excellent help for my naughty (thieving) lol, dog Callum. He ate some dark chocolate (stolen from my desk) and, yes, I know I should have put it away! Anyway, got up early for a nice walk and noticed Callum eating the last piece of chocolate. Tried to make him sick but not able and rushed him off to the Emergency Vet. I think this was around 5.30 in the morning. After the vet giving him a needle to make him sick, I was sent home with some charcoal to give to him over a few hours. Anyway, all turned out well and he was soon back to his usual self. Lovely vet and nurse and set my mind at ease. This is the Emergency vet that I would always go to if out of hours or weekends. If I could give this group more stars I would. Their service and care is second to none. We brought our little Dachshund Bruno in on Thursday after he was partially paralysed and dragging himself around everywhere. We were told by our normal vet that surgery was an option but most likely wouldn’t have a good outcome and we should consider euthanasia. We were then referred to AAERC, they saw us immediately and had him in for scans and surgery within 3 hours. He’s now home recovering happily 3 days later, where he belongs and able to walk around (very carefully). He still has a long recovery ahead but he wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the amazing skills and abilities and the love and care the staff at AAERC show. Truly angels who deserve nothing but praise! Thankyou for everything! Read Less

How these people call themselves vets, vet nurses is beyond me. One creature there when I took my dying dog informed me, not once, but twice that her shift finished two hours ago. My obvious question should have been, what are you doing here then. How they can profess to love animals is a lie, with the exception of two people, none of the others are fit to be around animals and any person working there, knowing what they are like, are also unworthy people. The one who I refer to as a creature is the same one who referred to my dying dog as a creature, not a scrap of empathy in her miserable body. The same goes for the woman on reception, a surly faced creature who barked questions at you when you are visibly distraught. The Vet who discharged my dog prescribed and gave me tablets for her, she was almost comatose, foaming at the mouth, passing faeces and obviously dying. I told him she was dying and refused the offered euthanasia, no way would I have that callous lying creature sticking yet another needle in my dog. He had the gall to tell me she was standing an hour earlier, he's a liar, she was a rag doll. What upsets me more than anything is not the money they ripped off me, but the 7ncaring, callous, greedy individuals with whom she spent her last few hours. I can't bear to think what they did or didn't do to her whilst she was there. I loathe this practise and feel sorry for anyone who has no option with a sick pet. Read Less

Whilst we understand that after hours vet care costs more, we are giving 2 stars for a number of reasons. We waited for over 3 hours to be seen. Yes, you are an emergency clinic. Absolutely there is the expected waiting time while other animals that are in greater need are seen to. BUT you could have come over to us, in the first hour had a quick look at our dogs wound and told us that we should expect to pay around 2500 dollars to have him stitched up. Rather than making us wait so long to discover the amount we had to pay. That is a ridiculously high amount to charge for anesthetic and stitches. We visited our own vet on Monday morning. After consulting our local emergency vet the morning after our visit, who told us it would not hurt to wait till then. Which you could have done. The entire fee from our vet. Including medication, anesthetic, stitches and follow up consult was $461. Which means you guys charge more than 5 times the amount a normal vet does. Yes it is after hours care. I would have gladly paid up to $1000, knowing that it is after hours and a weekend. But $2500, plus the $233 consultation fee is appalling. Read Less

After spending $3,290 dollars for two days of observations , intravenous fluids, medication and an ultra sound they could not give me a definitive diagnosis. Not one vet contacted me personally to give me feed back about my dogs progress. Each time I rang to speak to a vet (a total of five) I was told that they were too busy to speak to me and would ring me back without result. Only once when I rang about midnight I was able to speak to the original vet who had assessed him on my dogs admittance to the clinic that day. After that nothing. Consequently the only way I could see how my dog was I had to go there personally and see for myself. I am glad that I took this initiative to do this because it became apparent that my dog was getting not better he was completely unresponsive, had not eaten, lost weight the complete opposite as to what my terrier usually is in fact I thought he was dying. On the Monday prior to Xmas day I took him out of the clinic and took him to Roseworthy Vet Hospital which is attached to the University of Adelaide and is their Vet Faculty he did manage with the aid of the nurse to the car, but just laid on the back seat. He was admitted at 4pm immediately I felt reassured and my dog wagged his tail for the first time. He was taken off his pain killers Temgesic over night and I was able to pick him up the following day at 4pm full of the joys of life. All in all the whole experience including my personal vet the total cost for the whole event was $6,000. Money counts for everything in that clinic and you could end up spending a fortune without a result, so please be aware what you may be in for! Read Less

I want to give zero stars but I can't post unless I give at least one. This business doesn't deserve half a star. I can't remember the last time, I came across such disgusting customer service. We were the first appointment in the morning and the vet ran 45 minutes late... had to drop his daughter at school apparently. No apology, even when he finally arrived. In fact, we didn't even meet him! We are at our most vulnerable when our pets are sick. The staff (in particular the male nurse) was rude, patronizing and showed zero compassion whilst the whole time trying to upsell us. Really? Telling us we need to spend more money on a biopsy for an animal with terminal cancer after $600+ on an ultrasound? And, telling us we need to pay this (deposit) before we left our beautiful dog there for the 30 minute procedure? What did you think we were going to do, abandon her? When we suggested our fury friend is more comfortable with women and would there be a female nurse, his reply was "the vet is a male and I'm the nurse, so that's not gonna happen". Geez mate, you could have had someone (female) at lease give her a pat or even lie to us. Heartless, disgusting service. Today, our beautiful girl went downhill dramatically after her visit. If you can, avoid this place!!! We have told our vet service how disgusted we were with the place they referred us to. If you have a good experience, tell people. If you have a bad one, tell everyone. Thanks for making an already traumatic experience w whole lot worse. Read Less

I know my pets are in excellent hands at this clinic. I was happy with their professionalism & service and everyone there has gone over & above for me. I was especially impressed with Dr John Punke and how skilled and caring he was. He gave me regular and reassuring updates on my pet's progress, he really listened to me and also gave up his personal time to help us out, which I can not thank him enough for. Other vets Matt + another male vet (sorry can’t remember his name) have been excellent and professional too. Also all the vets nurses I dealt with (especially Stephan and others who's names I can not remember) treated my dog as if he was their own, which was extremely comforting for me in a stressful time. They sent me pics of my little boy after his operation & encouraged me to visit him daily. They were never too busy to give me an update about how he was feeling over the phone. In summary - I have found all staff to be super caring towards my fur babies & extremely lovely & professional towards me. Read Less

John and his team are absolutely fantastic. The care, compassion, support & understanding shown indicated just how much these people care about animals and their welfare. John was very accommodating and his willingness to share his knowledge, even if just calling him for a second opinion shows how dedicated he is to his profession. If you do not have pet insurance, emergency surgery is always going to be expensive. If you cannot afford insurance or pay for your pet's care in times of need, you probably should have reflected on the suitability of taking responsibility for a pet in the first place. John from my experience is very accommodating, however, I imagine he still needs to cover his costs! Read Less

Our local Vet diagnosed that abnormal breathing in our dog €Snoopy€ (Tibetan Mastiff) was due to fluid retention in her chest. Snoopy is just 11 months old. They removed about 1.5 litre of fluid and refereed us to Adelaide Animal Emergency & Referral Centre (AAERC) and also organised our first appointment. Doctors and staff at this hospital are very professional and in my first consultation I was convinced that they could save Snoopy. CT scan revealed that Snoopy€s left lung had abnormality and 2 of her lung lobes are twisted. Dr John Punke (small animal surgery specialist) removed another 2.5 litres of fluid from Snoopy€s chest so that she could breathe. He discussed the complications of the surgery and treatment. We had full faith in Dr John€s excellent record and experience; we gave consent for this major life threatening surgery. Dr John successfully removed malfunctioning lung lobes from her left lung. Snoopy battled well through this 3-4 hrs long surgical process. Post surgery, Snoopy had more complications like breathing problem due to which she was put on oxygen for about 3-4 days. She had feeding issues, which was fixed by surgically putting feeding tube through her neck. I/V fluids and medicines tackled electrolyte imbalance and vomiting. Snoopy stayed at AAERC for 6 days and during that time we were daily provided with snoopy€s updates multiple times a day by friendly nurses, receptionist and by surgeon himself. We also got to visit Snoopy everyday after work. For me these doctors are like God, who saved our fur baby. I am very fortunate to be immediately recommended to AAERC by my local Playford vet and rest John and his team took care of. I would highly recommend AAERC for their expertise in this field and they are the reason that my fur baby Snoopy is still alive and healthy. Read Less

When visiting a 24 hour vet you are there because it is a medical emergency... it isn't your normal vet and you can't expect the same service given they are, quite honestly, in the business of treating life and death emergencies when you visit at 7pm on a Saturday evening. We suspected our dog had eaten snail bait so called en-route as our dog started to react very badly before our eyes. In this regard as soon as we walked in they knew who we were and took us straight out the back. Of course, we had to immediately fill in paperwork confirming we would pay an $800 fee irrespective to stabilise. Money hungry... perhaps... but Vets are professionals who deserve (in our opinion) to be paid for their time and furthermore, in reality we had to make a decision in that moment and there was no way $800 was standing between us and our dogs life. If you didn't know... snail bait is extremely poisonous to dogs and survival isn't all that likely. Once our girl was stabilised we were explained our choices, the proposed treatment plan and given a quote of $4,000 and asked to pay a 50% deposit should we choose to proceed. Our vet was Dr Casey Jacobs. We found the advice sound and we were able to ask questions and talk things through with this lovely lady. We chose to proceed, I understand others may not be in a financial situation to do so. Due to the treatment at AAERC our girl survived the night and we had a call at 11pm providing us with the status update. In the morning we called to confirm she could be picked up and raced down to collect her. The fee only came to just over $2,500 despite the quote. During this incredibly emotional time the staff were kind and friendly and we cannot speak highly enough of Dr Casey Jacobs who dealt with us "helicopter parents" and the fact that we were blubbering mess'. I am sorry to hear others did not have such a pleasant experience however for us, in a true emergency they were true professionals. Read Less

Absolutely terrible facility. Brought my cat in on a Sunday afternoon (with no other in-patients), waited 20 minutes to be been. She had a major laceration on her neck that needed emergency attention right away (not just a scare), plus they said she needed at least 5 stitches and surgery. Staff were rude and indifferent towards the condition of my cat. Wouldn't give us an update 4 hours later, promised numerous call backs and none were made. Once we finally got through, they still couldn't provide me with an update on her condition. The bill was estimated at just under $1000, and with her condition wording I can only imagine that she would get worse, plus more fees to pay. Unfortunately this is the only place open and they care more about charging you than treating their patients. Never going back there again.Read Less

Read Less
