From the second I walked in the receptionist gave off a totally unwelcoming vibe - everything about her was the very embodiment of the word SNARKY...her body language, facial expressions and tone. It was a hot day and I asked where the water bowl was so that my dog could have a drink - there wasn't any. She was overwhelmingly indignant when I asked for one. As I stood there with a 45kg German Shepherd she returned with a bowl the same size as a small child's breakfast cereal bowl! I was charged $37 because the vet wrote a prescription for medication - that's in addition to the FULL consultation fee. And don't be fooled by the name "Community" Veterinary Hospital, there is nothing local about these people, they are not even Tasmanian it's interstate owned. They are just as big a shysters as the worst of them. Read Less

They wouldn't do blood test when asked by owner although signs pointed to low or no immune system because of constant infection said wasn't necessary very long story from a dogs lump not being tested at dogs home. To very unhappy sad ending that could've been prevented. The dog saw several vets there. First visit vet told new owners how could they allow the dogs ears to get so badly infected. Once it was said she was from Tasmanian Dogs home. 3days prior. Alternatives were suggested to how ears then Immune system. Agreeing the lump was only fat lump. WITHOUT DOING BIOPSY nothing could be proven. My suggestion is if you buy a dog from dogs home DO NOT inform this vet Practice. I was told by CEO of dogs home they are the same company. And a company purpose is to make profits. Charities help. Had Missy have been given a biopsy her first visit. As she was at another vet practice I took her to thinking just for vaccination.@new Vets first words I don't like look of that lump. Do you mind if I test it. Missy would've lived a longer fuller life. But Hobart Community vet spent $100s on her that could've been spent in lump sum removal of her malignant mast cell tumor. Dogs home did offer a changeover bout year later. No sorry lump wasn't checked. Missy's story will be published in the Mercury within next few months. I've spoken to a reporter that is prepared to publish story as I requested a print out and notes from Community vet and have Missy's initial vet card .
