To the Animal Aid Coldstream, Veterinary Team, my highest praise, respect and unreserved “Thank you “ for saving the life of my deeply loved German Shepard. With special recognition to their Veterinary Director, Dr N Maritz. I owned 4 large breed dogs over the span of 30 years, giving me plenty of opportunities to meet & greet many veterinarians, with various degrees of competence. Dr Martiz, expertise becomes evident in the first few minutes of meeting him. Observing the passion & confidence with which he approached my dog’s health issue, I immediately recognised, that my extremely ill dog was in the best of hands. In addition, Dr Maritz was meticulous in explaining her very complex health issues in a manner, that was easy to understand, which in turn created even more confidence as to his proposed treatment. Best of all, he not only allowed me to stay with my dog throughout the entire ( painful ) examination, he actively encourages, owner participation/observation. Sadly, something so many newer generation vets are not prepared to do anymore these days. Even so, all her subsequent examinations were very painful, she walked with total trust back into his room. I am sure Dr Maritz, passion for what he does, is infectious to all that work with him. The entire Vet team was highly efficient, helpful and a pleasure to deal with, during my visits. I congratulate Animal Aid, for having such a competent and highly personable Veterinary Director as part of their organisation. One has to remember that Animal Aid, is a NFP organisation, they don’t receive Government funding, their income is derived solely from donations and support from a grateful public. Read Less

Take my boy here for the vets, training and boarding, couldn’t be happier! The vet is always the best price in the area, as well as the nicest people, they always accommodate my dogs issues with men and other dogs, they don’t judge and look after us so well. I couldn’t recommend the boarding facilities more either, I was so worried about boarding my dog, as a rescue, he’s got some attachment issues, and after a FREE trail day, where they gave me a full assessment on how he behaved, I dropped him off still nervous about leaving him behind. For no reason! He was so happy, I swear he was happier when I picked him up than he is at home, he loved it! And the price is amazing! I left my boy there for a few days and he came home happy and bathed (and I didn’t even pay for a bath). The whole place is run by people who genuinely love animals and the price is unbeatable for all of their services, they have my heart! Read Less

I had a cat that wouldn't stop coming to my house every day, myself and family tried to shoo it thinking it belonged to somebody, but it just kept on coming back, after a month or so he started looking very thin and ill, so we got him back to health and eventually took him to this shelter. Upon arrival the staff stared at us and asked what we wanted, we then explained our situation to the head cattery lady and were snapped at. She rudely accused us of trying to steal the cat and said we were breaking the law, we kept trying to explain we didn't 'steal' him and that we were more interested in the welfare. We were then told it wasn't in their district (which we weren't aware of) and continued on with her rude and loud tirade, until eventually we were told to take him to the RSPCA. I realise that under council laws they may not have been able to help, but we were unaware, and would have happily accepted that fact had we been told in a civil manor, but getting yelled at and belittled for trying to do what was best was unnecessary and plain hurtful. The shelter is a beautiful place, but certain staff obviously need to learn basic communication skills. Read Less
