We have grown rapidly to a large group that includes eight specialists. The specialists referral team encompasses surgery, medicine, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging and neurology. We accept referrals Monday to Friday during business hours for our referral services.

Emergency / ICU

Our emergency centre has a motivated team of emergency/ICU veterinarians and an exceptional group of experienced nurses and support staff, who look after their patients as if they were their own. We rushed our 11 week old Poochon to Carevet last week, she was gravely ill and frothing from the mouth. I was an emotional mess and the ICU Vet told us she was a very sick little puppy. We had only had her one week but we loved her ever so much. They thought little Macy had ingested something or was having an anaphylactic reaction to a bite. The staff were so sympathetic & thoughtful to us and sent us home with the confidence they would look after our little girl and try to save her. Every time I rang to check on Macy, the staff were so kind and understanding, I cannot speak highly enough of them. Our little Macy did pull through and is back to being her bouncy mischievous self five days later. Thank you to all the staff for working so hard to save Macy and the great compassion you gave to Russell and I. I could only highly recommend Carevet to anyone, even if Macy had not have survived I would be writing the same comment as the kindness and compassion we felt was amazing. Read Less

Disgraceful bedside manner (for the pet owners) by an extremely judgemental vet who had no background on my dog yet proceeded to shame me about the multiple health issues he had (he has chronic issues and has lived an energetic and happy life) and told me "he probably has cancer somewhere but we don't know where, you'll need to put him down asap". Luckily for my dog I know him better than anybody and tomorrow he celebrates his 15th birthday. He is back to his normal self, wanting to eat everything in sight and swimming. Something that vet would have stolen from him and his family had I followed her instruction. Never deal with this organisation. Read Less

CARE vet were quick to diagnose a brain tumour in our dog and once we were told that surgery was an option, there was no question in what we wanted to do to help our beloved pet. Unfortunately, the promise of surgery came with little action from these vets. For 3 weeks we asked for a surgery plan and were consistently met with the same answer of 'I'm talking with the surgeon next week,'but next week never came. We decided to seek consult from another neurologist who was quick to point out the flaws in what we were promised. Unfortunately for our pet, she became the victim of complete complacency by this vet and she succumb to her illness and had to be put to sleep before the CARE vet had even made time to speak with the neurologist surgeon. We are devastated by the service that we were provided and would not recommend CARE vet to anyone we know who cares for the wellbeing of their animal. Lazy, vague, time poor & money hungry. Read Less

It was the first time I've ever been to a vet without being pressured or guilted into paying for unnecessary treatments and tests. Dr Grant explained to me very clearly everything she was doing and discussed all the treatment options and offering me a choice of what I'd like to do, instead of just recommending the most expensive choice. CARE animal hospital is absolutely amazing. All of the doctors, vets, and nurses are so kind, caring, compassionate, and empathetic. The doctors are always happy to explain things and answer questions, as well as listen to me cry down the phone! The nurses are so lovely, sitting with my kitty and hand feeding her. They let me visit her every day and put us up in a room by ourselves with her bed and food so that I could spend time with her even when she was staying at the hospital for almost a week. Without CARE I don't know what would have happened to my little cat and although she's still on her way to full recovery, I can't thank everyone there enough for the care and love she received while she was there, and at all her check ups so far. Snowball is now doing so much better thanks to the expertise and care from CARE and I would recommend them to anyone. Especially a big thanks to Dr Karen for her efforts and sympathy!Read Less

Our cat Oliver has cancer and his Surgeon (GUY) is fantastic. He's very patient with me, I've asked a million and one questions and been on the phone multiple times for at least 30 mins or more, even though he is extremely busy. Oliver's surgery was successful but we're now waiting on pathology to see if cancer has spread. By speaking with me and explaining in great detail the after care and signs to look out for he has managed to keep us both calm at an extremely stressful time. My only negative comments would be the lack of communication from the reception staff. After leaving multiple messages with reception and my number they weren't passed on. They also didn't explain to GUY I was to be the contact person. Because of the lack of communication GUY then called my partner who is working rather than me. I understand that people are busy but our cat has cancer and I need to know what is happening with him and if and when he will be discharged as I will be the one picking him up.Read Less

I'm going to make this review straight to the point; CARE is the best Animal Referral and Emergency centre that you could ever imagine. They deserve to call themselves CARE because this is what my partner and I have honestly felt from the team there since the first moment we walked in. Our boy Caspar was with CARE for close to two months. Although we were never able to diagnose the problem, Guy, Karen and Soph never gave up in consideration of what additional treatments could work. They took the time to always explain to us what they knew to make sure that we understood it and they really listened to what our concerns and thoughts were too. Then you have the additional team behind that, especially Brooke and Lauren, who were just sensational. We had to go overseas while our boy was in there and part of what made it easier for us to do (and to enjoy the trip) was that CARE were so capable in displaying how loved our boy was and how he was in the absolute right place he needed to be if he had any chance of survival. They would send me pictures and the updates were regular and never once did I feel a call to them from the US was an inconvenience and they always made time for me. Even during that time, my mother went into hospital and one of them kindly asked how she was going to following week; this is the level of attention and genuine concern the team have. More important, I could tell that my boy Caspar had fallen to love some of the team there too. It was a completely two way mutual admiration thing going on between them. My boy can be a little difficult and certainly will let people know he is the boss and they grew to work with that and love him very, very quickly. Unfortunately, my boys story doesn't end the way that we want it and he has come home to be treated with love and given comfort over his final days. Having said that, there was a call this morning from the team to find out how his night settling back in at home was overnight and to answer any questions we have. At CARE, I don't feel like I found a team of highly skilled animal specialists, although they are - I feel like I found friends who genuinely care and for that reason, I have nothing but the highest of recommendations for the organisation. If your animal is fortunate enough to go there after an unfortunate incident, then know that your animal is in the absolute best hands.Read Less

NEVER TAKE YOUR PET HERE. IT IS ALL ABOUT TAKING YOUR MONEY. If they cared about your pet they would examine them immediately. After my dog became ill in the early hours of Sunday morning with vomiting and diarrhoea I drove to Hood St ,Care Emergency Vets. Arriving at 6.20am I was told I should have rung as they do change over between 6.30am to 7.00am-their website says to just come in with out phoning. My dog was in no way distressed so I told them I would walk him around the front of their building rather than stay in their waiting room as my dog starts freaking out by the smell of the vets. To cut this story very short my dog is a diabetic due to having pancreatitis. My concerns were -has he got pancreatitis again???  and I was extremely worried that his insulin was due at 9am. He needed to eat before he could have his insulin. At around 8.10am they decided to see me-did I mention there were no other people waiting to be seen for the 2 hours I was made to anxiously wait. My dog was on his lead on the ground, the vet Yasmin, paid no attention to him....she noted his history then proceeded to write down what looked like guessed prices off the top of her head. Many prices of $150 to ahhh $350 and so on until I was given an approximate total of $1800 and I would need to leave him for 24 hours. This was all before she had even touched him. Poodles are very spoilt and mine freaks out more if he is  left without us especially at the vets. She told me she would give him valium !!!! All this time she had not even taken his temperature. When I agreed to leave him because I had suggested he needed a drip to replace what he had lost when vomiting , she made some condescending remarks as she left the room to get some more forms I needed to fill out. It was 8.45am now. INSULIN DUE AT 9AM AND STILL MY DOG HAD NOT BEEN EXAMINED. I was told he would be on a drip for 24 hours, he was only listed on the bill as 12 hours on the drip.I am considering contacting my solicitor as the bill was $800 and he was no better.I WISH I HAD NOT LEFT HIM AS WHEN I PICKED HIM UP HE STILL HAD BAD DIARRHOEA AND HAD ONLY A MOUTHFUL OF FOOD FROM THEM SO HE WAS VERY LOW.Please do not trust these vets with your beloved animal. We could not be happier with the medical treatment, love and care our little princess received. Our baby was stung by a bee and suffered anaphylactic shock. From what I have read online, small dogs like ours don't usually survive such attacks. When we got to the Vet, Lowi's heart was hardly beating and we couldn't hear her breathing. Jina was able to stabilize her and give her Plasma transfusions and within 3 days Lowi was more or less back to herself running around (any medical professional I've spoken to have said this speedy recovery is unheard of). September 2015 was probably the toughest month we've ever had to go through...our son was involved in a car accident and was in a very bad way. We thought we would lose him and he was just 10 months old. It was then that our dear friend and vet nurse of C.A.R.E; Lauren recommend a transfer to Collingwood Emergency. With Lauren, surgeon Adrian and the team we knew he was in good hands. He had his right hind leg amputated and the very next day he wanted to get up and walk! We knew then he would be ok... 7 months later he's running faster than ever and people we meet don't even realise he only has 3 legs. It's hard to say if he remembers the accident as he goes about life with a smile on his face...and as they say "chicks dig scars"!!! Yet none of this would have been possible if it weren't for the caring and most amazing nurses, surgeons and staff of C.A.R.E. Your patience and love of what you do really helped us and Oakley through. There are no words that can describe what it means to have him in our lives. He has the most beautiful nature. He is an inspiration by pushing through any situation. He loves everyone and especially loves rounding up our nieces and nephews! And for this we can only say thank-you, from the bottom of our hearts xo Steph and Emma (Mum's of Oakley) PS - I'll try to post a video!Read Less

My little kitten had been sick for a week, I had her in and out of my local vet and unfortunately Dolly (my kitten) took a turn for the worst and I bought her straight up to CARE at some ungodly hour. They examined Dolly thoroughly and took immediate action. Every one of the team made me feel that Dolly was in capable hands and when the time came for them to operate they all were supportive and nurturing. It was clear that they don't do their job because it's a job, they do it because they are passionate and protective of animals and that was very predominant throughout my whole experience. Our pup has a nasty habit of eating non-food items; last night's effort was Panadol. Thankfully we had these guys on call and were able to speak with the vet immediately. She was fabulous, and so knowledgeable, and the 15 minutes she took out of her night to speak with me immediately put my mind at ease. I can't say how much I appreciate the time she took to talk me through pup's prognosis and treatment options. I felt assured that regardless of whether we needed to take her in or not, she was in exceptional hands. Read Less

Never ever take your loved animal here. All these people concerned about is money. They first and main aim is to leave your animal overnight and you will never know what happened there. I will never forgive myself that I trusted them and left my baby there. She was not in bad condition at all, i was sure it can be cured. Over the phone they kept telling me she is better and when I decided to come and bring her some food they got angry that I came without asking their permission. When I saw my poor animal she was in very ppor condition, I was devastated but they insisted that she is better and this is me who is wrong. They said that they have to live her there and she will be ok. How could I believe them, not my own eyes. I left her and they kept their lies over the phone. They said they will call me only if they will get worried. They rang me 5 minutes before she passed away to say that they are worried and cannot do anyting. This is just the short version of my horrible heartbreaking story. I eill never forgive them for what they have done. I know they are psyhopaths who don't care about animals at all. They will lie to you without any doubts just to keep animal as long as they can. Read Less

Read Less

Wow I am reading the previous review of CARE and I empathise with Nat. It's heartbreaking and very sad to hear whenever someone loses their animal companion. I know mine is just like my baby and I took her in after she decided to chew on a broken glass whilst out walking.Stressful, worries and anxious are some of the emotions that I felt.It was fortunate for me that she was fine and she was seen and assessed by the vets here with no incidents. It went smoothly and I am appreciate what of that.My other contact with CARE is through their Rabbit doctor. She is a specialist in rabbit care and visits us at home annually to check on my bunny pet. He was desexed at CARE and that procedure too went smoothly. Overall my interactions with CARE has been positive and they were upfront with fees whenever I called or book in. Read Less

2.5 years ago my cat Daisy was diagnosed with bone cancer in her tail. I can't praise Dr Guy Yates and his team highly enough. They took superb care of Daisy - and me - when they had to amputate her tail. She is still alive, purring and happy today, despite not having a tail. These guys are tops. Feb 12, 2016. My other cat Marigold is sick today, so I've taken her to CARE. They continue to be amazing vets - so kind, thorough and empathetic. Can't praise them enough. Read Less

I came here with my 10 month old pup Willow, to see a specialist regarding her hip dysplasia. From the ladies out front to Adrian, the experience was fantastic. I cannot be more grateful for their expertise and prompt actions. Words will never describe how grateful and comforted I am by all the team, and i would, without any hesitation recommend them. Read Less

Read Less
