I have been horribly let down by the North Fitzroy Vetinary Practice and advise people not to go there if they seek accurate diagnosis for their pets . I also wish to warn people not to sign up to a scam . I refer to Best For Pets , prompted by the Senior Management in Vet national Care , VNC, who organise direct debits up to $430 per year and invite you to consultations as often as you wish . The sense is that your pet is being cared for and closely monitored . The reverse for both my Senior Dogs this year was the case ! Sadly , I took Archie to see 3 different Vets in the Practice and all misdiagnosed his Luver Cancer , calling it a muscular skeletal problem and selling me pain killers and anti inflams. I was robbed of a chance to say goodbye to Archie , who I’d had for 10 years , and had to put him down suddenly at 3 am in Kensibgton Emergency , at Advanced Vet Care, without any warning because Arch was bleeding severely internally ! I was in shock and great distress . I then began to doubt that Vets at North Fitzroy knew their medicine and took 16 year old Buddy for an ultra sound to Kensington asap! North Fitzroy had Said Buddy had a collapsing Trachiea which caused coughing and fainting . Advanced Vet Care saw that he had a heart Tumour but at least I had a month to say goodbye armed with this knowledge !. It has astounded me that no Vet during this time had ever suggested an X-ray for either of my Senior Dogs given that I’d taken them in so often and repeatedly said that something was wrong ...? I’ve been directly debuted by their fraudulent scheme to no avail !! I’ve written twice to their Senior Management who devised this so called insurance but have had no reply ! Nowadays, people I meet in the area say similar things about their cats dying without a correct diagnosis ! It’s not good enough to put everything down to a muscular cause or a behavioural problem ! And as experts at the Werribee Emergency said to me long ago, the Owners must be listened to , as they know their pets best ! North Fitzroy Vets seem only to think in terms of Pet behaviour and not to realise that internal stomach pain may well be causing a change in demeanour ! This set of very sad , serious mistakes and sloppy work has now caused me to doubt most Vets , sadly ! I’ve heard good reports of the Fawkner and Fleminton Vet hospitals and perhaps in time I’ll book in with them? Don’t trust North Fitzroy Vets . People there are charming but we require, and pay for , Vets who know how to think about what may be going wrong internally . Vets who are sufficiently trained to ask further questions and think outside the box ?!! North Fitzroy need to either close down or conduct a huge review ! They also need to scrap Best for Pets’ This scam has been the Worst for Pets that I’ve ever engaged in . Read Less

We tragically had to put our cat to sleep here, rather unexpectedly due to a sudden liver failure. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, giving us as much time and privacy to come to a decision, then say goodbye. They let us hold her while she was euthanased, and gave us as much time as we wanted with her body. They then put her in cold storage to preserve her while we could make burial arrangements, and made sure her body was curled up to look just like she was sleeping. Due to our grief they offered to let us out the back entrance so we didn't have to face everyone in the waiting room. At no point did they ever even broach the topic of payment. When we picked her up a day later the nurse was wonderfully warm and sympathetic, and again didn't mention payment. A week later we received a letter from the clinic. Was it a bill? No, it was a beautiful handwritten card signed by all the staff offering their condolences. I've never encountered such wonderful, caring service in such a time of vulnerability.Read Less

DO NOT GO HERE! Best for pet is a rip off. All they do is try to sell me things i dont want EVERY time i go in. the program rolls over to the next year without me agreeing. They also FORGED my signature on a debit success contract!! The signature looks nothing like mine. i will be contacting a lawyer about this. My neighbors cat died while in hospital and when asked what training the staff has i was told most the "nurses" were new and without much experience or qualifications. Every time i see a vet its someone new because the vets i have seen previously have left? only positive is Jodie from cattery, she loves my cat and cares so much about him unlike the rest of the staff who cant tell i have been going to the old practice for over 5 years. My niece has told me they are a corporation, run from a group of business people who havent stepped foot in a vet clinic. Sorry i dont think my animal is something you can use and abuse for money. The first thing that made us suspect these guys are good, is that their 'about us' page on their website includes details of the pets the staff here have at home. It's personable; approachable; human. We'd been using a competing vet on Lygon Street and found them to be less so, and constantly pushing expensive insurance plans whilst giving hypochondriacal diagnoses. So we changed vets and gave Fitzroy Veterinary Clinic a chance. First impressions? It's busy. Busy and efficient. The crowd dispersed after a few minutes but it gave us a chance to see what it's like here when they're under pressure, and it was a relaxed environment. There's a dog side and a cat side to this place, and decorated accordingly. Our own little fur-ball doesn't travel well and gets a bit nervous in new places, but this was as good as we could hope for, given our in-and-out 'check up' we were there for. We were kept waiting for half an hour beyond our allotted time, but I suspect we arrived at the tail-end of a particularly busy period. Before long, we'd completed the forms and were ushered in to see a very friendly, plain-speaking vet who never once attempted to sign us up to an insurance plan, or push anything other than an honest verdict on how little Samson was doing. And he's doing just fine. We left really satisfied with the experience and confident we made the right change. Read Less

Staff are so friendly every single time. My dog recently had surgery and was referred to the sister clinic in North Fitzroy and had follow up etc at Carlton clinic. They were so good to her (and me the neurotic fur-mother). She was a handful as it was a bit traumatic and she didn't like being in a crate post surgery at all. But the staff at the Carlton clinic were so good, caring and very good.  They made sure that I was updated on her progress all the time and answered all of my questions. It made everything so much better. Highly recommended! A huge thank you! Read Less

We even found a stray kitten there when we were looking to adopt, and they handled everything. There's even a boarding house connected for when we have to go away and leave our beloved cat for a few days. Doesn't get better that this! Read Less
