At Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre we are committed to providing your pet with the highest quality specialist veterinary treatment available.
Established in 1999, the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre (MVSC) is one of our nation's leading providers of advanced multidisciplinary medical services for animals. The Centre aims to provide clients, patients and referring veterinarians with the best integrated veterinary care available, within the one complex.
As a Centre of Excellence, our specialists are committed to employing evidence-based practice to ensure animals receive medical care comparable to that of human medicine. I found the Specialists very professional. They know what they want to achieve in eradicating a problem - in my dog's case,his skin allergies.

Medications sold at inflated prices
Happy with the advice and treatment that i received but i would advise all patients to check the cost of medications and compare to online vet pharmacies. You are able to request a prescription script as you would at a human doctor (this is required when purchasing) and obviously do your research on the online store to make sure they are reputable. The shampoo we were recommended can be bought online for $12.99 and we got charged $66, mark up was the same for other medication. I do not believe there is justification for charging 5 times retail prices.

Went here and saw “Dr” Kate Heading who has to be one of the worst vets I’ve ever come across. Our Rottweiler presented with hind leg paralysis and she took us into a room and spent 45 minutes whiteboarding all the things it couldn’t be. She suggested that it was a bad sign that our 45kg dog couldn’t pull himself around the floor by just one toe, and she suggested a test which was unlikely to provide results but one of the side effects was potential death. We had previously ...seen a vet at the emergency centre who suggested a potential cause, but Kate (in her infinite wisdom) decided that it wasn’t it. For no reason at all. We proceeded to treat for what the emergency centre vet suggested and the treatment (high doses of Valium) worked perfectly, even down to the exact hour that the improvement was expected. We called Kate to let her know that it was the issue and the treatment worked, and rather than accept this, she said it was a complete coincidence and that she was still right. Would not trust this woman with a picture of an animal let alone a real one. See More

Dr Merrett and his team were fabulous. After a misdiagnosis from another vet at a different clinic, dr Merrett diagnosed our puppy with rodenticide poisoning almost immediately and worked swiftly to get her treatment started. All of the staff were wonderfully caring and loving at such a stressful time and took such care of me too. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the team at Melbourne veterinary specialists. I hope we never have to go back there (let’s face it, no one wants their puppy/pet to be sick), but if we do ever need to go there again, I know we’ll be in the best of hands. Thankyou for not only saving our puppy, but taking such great care of her and us, and making such a stressful time that bit easier.

I would certainly recommend this place for specialist treatment. The receptionists are genuinely caring and friendly - this extends to the vet nurses to the vets themselves. Dr Greg and Dr Robson have addressed the problem with my cat's ear , I'd describe them as thorough, friendly and knowledgeable. You don't feel like a number at this place, whereas that has been my experience with my previous vet.

Fantastic place and highly recommend! I desperately needed an appointment which was short notice and the lovely receptionists got me in the very next morning. Dr Darren Merritt was amazing with my family cat Smudgy who sadly has chronic kidney disease. He was compassionate, kind, professional, explained everything in great detail and truly cared about helping my cat. I walked away from my consult truly blown away. Since my consult I've been in touch with Dr Merritt and taken on more advice and plans to help prolong my beloved cats life as much as we can. Thank you so much

In September of 2017 our little girl broke her femur and dislocated her hip. When our local vet called to make the appointment for us explaining the severity of what had happened MVS gave us an appointment the very next day. From the moment we walked in we felt at ease and knew everything would be ok. They explained everything in detail and kept us up to date the whole time. Our little girl had surgery that day and the vet even went in the next day on his day off to check she was ok as she was having a couple of issues
The after care was absolutely sensational as well
As a result we have a little girl with a fully healed hip (one of the best they had seen!)
We will be forever grateful to the team at MVS and Dr Simon
Thank you for everything. Hopefully nothing will ever happen again so we won't have to come back but if it does I will always know we are in the best hands!!

My cavalier Marley has been having a lot of trouble with her skin. She was always licking her paws, scratching her belly and being itchy all over. I got referred to MVSC to try and get to the bottom of marleys problem. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with smiles and lovely staff. When it was our turn Jess B came and got us and asked us questions before Dr. David Robson came in to examine Marley. He examined Marley and explained everything so I could understand (also ...got a copy of what we talked about). We were lucky enough there was a spot so Marley was able to get her testing done that day. Jess B was lovely explaining what was going to happen to Marley with the testing and was very reassuring as she could see I was a little worried. When we picked Marley up she was very happy and I was told she lapped up the attention from the other nurses. I went back and picked up marleys immunotherapy vaccine and again was greeted with smiles and Marley and her cav sister Meeko got lots of love, cuddles and photos taken. I was shown how to give her the vaccine and the nurse (sorry forgot your name) was so patient and reassuring. Very thorough in explaining the vaccine thank you all for the amazing help for Marley. Have attended the Specialist Centre on a number of occasions with my fur baby and have always been happy with the care and customer service offered. On my recent visit with Sparkles we were fortunate to have Dr Robert Labuc look after us - I must say I felt so relieved and happy with how things were explained - a clear and realistic interpretation of ultra sound results. Thank you Dr Labuc - my baby and I appreciate the care and information provide. (Natalie and Sparkles 🐶🐾)

Our little girl Minka developed allergies when she was four. Despite following advice from our local vet her skin condition deteriorated terribly. We booked in to see Greg Burton and her life changed from that point. We did various tests and he established she was allergic to moths, dust mites and ants. We treated her skin then she started on her custom made vaccine and is now an incredibly happy and healthy dog. We just wished we saw him earlier. She is now down to 6 weekly vaccinations. If anyone has a dog that is suffering I highly recommend you see a specialist like Greg.

I can't express how happy I am with MVA. My baby (cat) has been going to MVA for nearly 2 years and before I came I thought we would have to put her down. She was in a very bad way and no one could tell me what was wrong. She was doing so well and has only just recently had a set back but the service and care taken by everyone at the centre has been extraordinary. They have taken the best care of my cat and treated me with such understanding and care when I was a stress mess. Thank you Dr David Robson and team for caring so deeply for my baby.

Dr Darren Merritt was amazing with my family cat Smudgy who sadly has chronic kidney disease. He was compassionate, kind, professional, explained everything in great detail and truly cared about helping my cat. I walked away from my consult truly blown away. Since my consult I've been in touch with Dr Merritt and taken on more advice and plans to help prolong my beloved cats life as much as we can. Thank you so much

In September of 2017 our little girl broke her femur and dislocated her hip. When our local vet called to make the appointment for us explaining the severity of what had happened MVS gave us an appointment the very next day. From the moment we walked in we felt at ease and knew everything would be ok. They explained everything in detail and kept us up to date the whole time. Our little girl had surgery that day and the vet even went in the next day on his day off to check she was ok as she was having a couple of issues
The after care was absolutely sensational as well
As a result we have a little girl with a fully healed hip (one of the best they had seen!)
We will be forever grateful to the team at MVS and Dr Simon
Thank you for everything. Hopefully nothing will ever happen again so we won't have to come back but if it does I will always know we are in the best hands!!

My boy had skin problems in his back paws that was a complicated matter and wasn't healing with any antibacterial capsules, although it was clearly bacterial. Dr. Robson performed a biopsy and could fix it after that. He explained all the problems and issues why this has happened and took a good care of my boy.

My cavalier Marley has been having a lot of trouble with her skin. She was always licking her paws, scratching her belly and being itchy all over. I got referred to MVSC to try and get to the bottom of marleys problem. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with smiles and lovely staff. When it was our turn Jess B came and got us and asked us questions before Dr. David Robson came in to examine Marley. He examined Marley and explained everything so I could understand (also ...got a copy of what we talked about). We were lucky enough there was a spot so Marley was able to get her testing done that day. Jess B was lovely explaining what was going to happen to Marley with the testing and was very reassuring as she could see I was a little worried. When we picked Marley up she was very happy and I was told she lapped up the attention from the other nurses. I went back and picked up marleys immunotherapy vaccine and again was greeted with smiles and Marley and her cav sister Meeko got lots of love, cuddles and photos taken. I was shown how to give her the vaccine and the nurse (sorry forgot your name) was so patient and reassuring. Very thorough in explaining the vaccine thank you all for the amazing help for Marley. Have attended the Specialist Centre on a number of occasions with my fur baby and have always been happy with the care and customer service offered. On my recent visit with Sparkles we were fortunate to have Dr Robert Labuc look after us - I must say I felt so relieved and happy with how things were explained - a clear and realistic interpretation of ultra sound results. Thank you Dr Labuc - my baby and I appreciate the care and information provide. (Natalie and Sparkles 🐶🐾)

Every time I look at my cat Fluffy running and jumping about I think of how grateful I am to Dr Peter Laverty and his team at the Melbourne Veterinary specialist centre who did a miraculous surgery on Fluffy a few years ago when he was only a kitten and had broken his knee cap. Keep up the good work!!

Our little girl Minka developed allergies when she was four. Despite following advice from our local vet her skin condition deteriorated terribly. We booked in to see Greg Burton and her life changed from that point. We did various tests and he established she was allergic to moths, dust mites and ants. We treated her skin then she started on her custom made vaccine and is now an incredibly happy and healthy dog. We just wished we saw him earlier. She is now down to 6 weekly vaccinations. If anyone has a dog that is suffering I highly recommend you see a specialist like Greg.

I can't express how happy I am with MVA. My baby (cat) has been going to MVA for nearly 2 years and before I came I thought we would have to put her down. She was in a very bad way and no one could tell me what was wrong. She was doing so well and has only just recently had a set back but the service and care taken by everyone at the centre has been extraordinary. They have taken the best care of my cat and treated me with such understanding and care when I was a stress mess. Thank you Dr David Robson and team for caring so deeply for my baby.

Everyone at MVSC ROCKS!! You are all extremely professional, are super caring (towards the pets and the families) and the most friendliest bunch of people I've come across!! My dog Cooper had a hernia surgery, which was very serious and very scary and we are forever grateful at the AWESOME results!!
