BE WARNED. NOT RECOMMENDED
One of the most upsetting experiences I have ever encountered at a vet clinic. I had taken my dog there previously on 3 or 4 occassions and had seen the lovely female vet who was sympathetic and was able to describe to me all the necessary information regarding my dogs pathology (as you would expect from a trained professional). However, the last time I was there, I had the unfortunate experience of being seen by the male owner (Dr Rene Fenech). To put it mildy, he was unapolagetically rude and cruel and acted highly innapropriately and SHOULD NOT BE WORKING WITH ANIMALS. I took my heavily limping dog there, and I was quite upset as any animal owner would be. He proceeded to put my 50kg+ dog up on a hydraulic table even when I clearly expressed my concern as my dog was distressed and wanted to get off and would most likely hurt himself jumping a metre off the table. The vet became frustrated with me as I had explained that the previous female vet didn't put him a metre up on the table. Before putting him down off the table, the vet only performed an assessment on half of his body (front and back leg) and couldn't tell me what possible pathology could be present. The only thing he told me was "he's obviously in pain" (which anyone with eyes could tell me) and couldn't tell me if it was the front/back/left or right legs. I had explained that the previous vet did a full functional assessment and told me exactly what leg- why couldn't he?
This 'trained' vet couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong apart from tell me it was pain from arthritis and then he had the audacity to argue with me when I questioned whether cortisone or anti-inflams were the best option. He couldn't isolate where the problem was, however the female vet had done so and gave my dog both anti-inflams and weekly cortisone injections. Why was he preferencing one over the other, and why was he angry at me asking relevant questions? I was clearly distressed then expressed that I thought he was being quite unecessarily rude. What I didn't expect was for him to agree! "YES, I AM AN OLD ANGRY MALTESE MAN, DON'T CARE, THAT'S WHO I AM" he replied. Wow. Not only was he exremely rude, but he was unable to be sympathetic and showed NO concern for my animals welfare. The receptionist wasn't much helpful either (apart from handing me a card for a mobile vet). I called back to explain that it wasn't about me, but about my dog who was in pain and that he required urgent pain relief. She blatantly blurted, "he's the boss" then hung up on me.
This vetererinarian should be ashamed of his poor behaviour and should not be treating any animals. If you want to see a vet who is blatantly rude and happily admits it, who is not up to date with current information, who doesn't perform regulatory functional assessments and who turns away animals in obvious discomfort, then by all means, go here. I know I won't be. Read Less
