Beware, make sure you have pet insurance, the vet seemly tried to manipulate me into thinking my cat had the worst scenario. And when the feedback was given to him he didn’t apologise. The people working here have no idea how their behaviour affects other people and they will blame others for being difficult. The example is when explaining my issues with the clinic to Sarah the veterinary nurse, Sarah responded “I’m sorry you feel that way”. A couple of months ago I came home and my dog had been vigorously peeing blood. As I have had this dog since I was a child, it was an extremely traumatic seeing my dog suffering the way she was so I rushed over to the closest emergency vet with out question. As i walked in, I was explaining to the nurse in tears what had happened whilst my dog was bleeding in my arms to the point of staining my clothes. The nurse only responded with making me aware of the $165 dollar consultation fee and i could afford this. As I was not prepared for this event i did not have the money in my spending account, i had it in my savings account which would take me 3 days to transfer. So i asked if there was some type of bill they could send me or some form of a payment plan and she said no. Turned me away and directed me to the next closest "volunteer" emergency vet which was over an hour and a half away. First of all I think this vet clinic needs to actually look up what the term emergency means before they advertise it and secondly, in the event of an emergency i do not think people's first priority of thought would be to consider whether their funds are sufficient or not, as it is an EMERGENCY and thirdly, my dog died the following morning because this veterinary clinic turned me away and refused to look at her. Over Easter Thursday evening my 14 year old dog started showing symptoms of distress so at about 11:00pm I took her to the Emergency Clinic in Moorabbin recommended on the Answering Service of my Vet. On arrival I was told that there was an Initial Fee of $165:00 dollars and then a Consultation Fee of $79:15. After some discussion it was decided she should be euthanised to quote the vet "while she still had some quality of life". With some doubt in my mind at what was a shock, I agreed. However when it came to the point, I felt she had shown some signs of settling down so changed my mind. She was then prescribed $87: 00 worth of medications . To be fair I was told it would be cheaper at my own Vet. Because they were closed over Easter/ Pesach, I bought them . I arrived home at 1:30am. I take full responsibility for that decision made in the middle of the night and in a state of distress. However, by 5:00am it was obvious she was in distress so I took her back to the Clinic where a little while later she was euthanised. The second visit within hours of the first again incurred the same Initial Fee and Consultation Fee plus another $105:00 for euthanasia. There was no refund for the medication one of which was unused nor any pensioner concession. They kept the medication which I was told could perhaps be used for stray dogs - though when I asked could they be used by the RSPCA was told that couldn't be done! Everybody I know is horrified by the double amount I had to pay for two visits within hours of each other in what were, for me, difficult and traumatic circumstances. Read Less

NO STARS! Do not take your pet there.i had to take my dog there because it was after hours. I have never seen someone treat my poor tiny chihuahua i was shocked how roughly he stuck his finger so far up her recum untill she was totally hunched up and dug around so roughly then i was shocked how hard he squeezed her stomach throughout her examination she cryed and was so stressed she was handed back to me absolutely frantic i have never seen her treated so bad. Highly recommend never take pet there! Took our bird there at midnight cause couple times gasped for air wasn't very serious Was still very active flying eating etc and only young Took it there to get checked at midnight call at 7am they put it down! And could not even give a bloody straight answer just said oh the doctor said could of been this or this so put it down did not even call before that stupid decision was made they have just done it! I rushed our cat into this centre a few days ago as he was having difficulty passing urine. He was crying at home and it was upsetting for me to see. The vet and nurse attended to him immediately. The vet examined him and luckily he didn't have a blocked bladder but he had cystitis. They give him pain medication promptly for this. The staff are very kind, professional and reassuring. My cat is doing very well and I am so lucky that this 24hr hospital is close to home. So good that you can just go there, not fuss about making appointments and they are always open. *Highly recommend* The cat is recovered to :) Read Less

We do not recommend this animal emergency hospital whatsoever. They did nothing to save our dog other than provide oxygen and charged us over $5000 a day to do so. This company is an absolute rip-off and it appears their exorbitant charges don't reflect the skill and competency of their vet's and nurses- they were too incompetent to perform the life-saving operation she needed despite vet's on previous shifts claiming that it was necessary. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. Biggest regret we have is ever taking our beloved dog there. Lesson learnt. Never again. Beware! Read Less

By far this is the worse animal emergency centre we had to visit. Incompetent staff, zero level of compassion (they first ask you to pay for the bill then proceed with a treatment), and the level of miscommunication between the staff is shocking. The vet who visited our pup was highly incompetent, unprepared, inexperienced and cold like a piece of ice! I pray God never ever to visit this awful place. Read Less

I will NEVER EVER bring my dog there again. The VET that attended my dog was not able to understand that my dog had an injury in his mouth after telling her the following sequence of events that are also reported in the medical report SHE WROTE. The dog was happy and active as always, I took him to the park to play fetch with his favorite toy, a wood stick, and suddenly my dog started bleeding from his mouth. What could have possibly happened? Is it more likely that THE STICK somehow, which he was playing with, had accidentally cause a tear in his mouth? Or is it more likely that he has eaten a bird or a rat days ago and that instantaneously, when we were playing with THE STICK in the park, he started bleeding from his mouth because he has eaten something day? In the meantime, my dog was inflating around the neck like a balloon, bleeding even more and he was showing problems breathing. We had been told to leave him there and go back home, and that they will need to do a blood test... A blood test for a stick injury?????? I want to cut to the chase and don't bother you with all the silly things they told us over the phone for the next 3 hours. The bottom line is that, after let me say that again 3 hours of phone calls where they kept telling us that he looked fine, they tell us that we need to go back to the hospital and take him to the nearby Surgery clinic just in front of them (that is actually the only good thing they have told us because when we took him to Southpaws they immediately understood what was going on). So we went back to the clinic to collect him and his neck was like a melon.... So I kindly screamed at the VET:"Is this a dog that looks fine in your??????!!!!!!" Anyway, we took him to Southpaw and after a major surgery to his trachea (it only took 40 minutes from the time we said "hi" to the time our dog was under surgery ) and 3 weeks of feeding him through a tube our dog is finally getting back to normal. Thanks a lot Southpaw! If you were wondering about the payment, don't worry, AEC are more worried to take a deposit from you of 2000$ before they look at your dog. Totally different is Southpaw approach, they didn't even asked for the credit card. They fixed our dog and 3 days later when we went there to collect our dog they have fairly asked to be paid. Please note, I just wanted to point out the different approach of both clinics. I am writing with the hope that some people/manager in AEC understand that their service is much needed for people like me that love pets like if they were our children, and that we would like to have the peace of mind that our pets are well looked after. Completely Incompetent! They completely botched a simple procedure which resulted in my pet having a serious infection and needed to receive the EXACT SAME procedure at a different VET practice which subsequently went perfectly. None of the Vets communicate with each other and the price tag is way too high for their obvious lack of basic animal care skills. This makes for a piss poor experience. Do yourself and your pet a favor and take them ANYWHERE else. Read Less

They seem to charge like a wounded bull. Our experience over the years, as well as a neighbour of ours, is that they seem too speedy recommending rather drastic procedures, with the attached high-end bill. Not much else about if it is after hours, but if you can wait, take your pet to a local vet - much cheaper and I'd say more peace of mind. Read Less

The vet and staff were able to check our dog's vitals and examine his body shortly after we walked in. They took the time to answer our questions and concerns, which put our hearts at ease. A few days later they called asking how our dog was doing, which showed great post-care. We are very appreciative for what they do here. Read Less

I rushed my cat here who was not well at all. The staff were friendly and helpful as well as caring. Yes, the costs are high, but to have such a service available and 24 hours as well as being local is invaluable.
