My dog Archie had been suffering with severe back pain. I had him booked in for a back fusion, but, lucky for me, the day before the operation, he got real bad & the vet clinic he was booked in with were unavailable, so I went to 'South Paws' in Moorabbin and saw Jeff Buckland, who was amazing. He just took control as I was confused about the best option for my little Archie at that stage. Under Jeff's advice we cancelled the surgery & went with a series of three cortisone injection over a couple of months. I am so happy to say my dog is now pain free. Going ahead with the surgery, Archie may have also ended up pain free, but with very restricted movement due to the fusion & a much more invasive choice. Jeff was so kind & invested so much time with me over phone and in emails. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks again Jeff Read Less

Dear Charles,Hard to find the words to express our heartfelt gratitude to you. What an extraordinary journey we shared to save my beautiful girl's life. We came to you for help at a time when hope was all but lost for she could barely walk. I remember your words so clearly. You said that you had never seen a spine so bad and that it couldn't be any worse. At that moment I thought my world had ended. But, then a miracle happened that restored my hope and my faith.You.You decided that in spite of the insurmountable odds you weren't going to give up on my girl. Then, through a series of medical interventions and specialised surgery you restored my girl's ability to walk again. You gave us back our very lives and and my girl and I were so happy as we celebrated life again. You gave us the priceless gift of time together that we only dreamed possible. It is because of you that my girl and I were able to share some of the most joyous times of our lives together and those cherished memories will remain with me for ever and always. Wish we could tell you how much your kindness has meant to us but, I can barely see through the tears anymore. Thank you for all that you are and for all that you do on behalf of the animals!Forever in our hearts,Helena and Kai Read Less

In Sep 2016, Dr Kuntz performed surgery on my beloved boy Oreo, who was 12 years old at the time. He had to remove a cancerous tumour behind his left eye, and also removed his left eye. We had previously seen another specialist but I didn't feel comfortable with them so went to Dr Kuntz for a second opinion, who immediately made me feel at ease with his knowledge, simple explanation and obvious love of animals. What was a stressful situation was made so much easier by the professionalism of Dr Kuntz and all the staff. Everyone was really friendly and made me feel at ease. Follow up care was also great, with Oreo having to stay a night about a week later, and all the staff were really caring and helpful. Would highly recommend them if you need any specialty surgery or cancer related issues. Read Less

This is specialist surgery and advice with respect and kindness. They treated me and my beloved Red (greyhound) with understanding, compassion, and care, from the moment I first brought Red to them nearly a year ago. I understood what they were talking about when they explained the complexity of Red's broken leg and the options before me; and during his surgery and overnight stays, Red couldn't have been in better care. This week we are heartbroken because despite our best efforts Red ended up with bone cancer, but my second and final opinion was sought from South Paws, who I knew would tell me the truth, knowing I had Red's best interests and peace at heart. When Red was euthanized, it happened at South Paws, and I'm at peace that it did, because he had a dignified death just as they had given him a dignified life. Thank you for the beautiful flowers, for the advice about grief (the two Angelas were wonderful), for the suggestions about the cremation. We'll never forget our lovely big boy and all the joy he gave us, and I doubt we'll ever get over his death, but South Paws have made the journey bearable, and I feel lucky to have had them caring for our beloved family member.Read Less

Our cat slipped a disc in her back and lost function in her two rear legs (i.e. could no longer walk without falling over). Our usual vet revealed a course of treatment (to be carried out by a specialist) which would cost approximately $8,000. MRI€s ($1,600), spinal surgery ($5,500) and appointments/followup/medication ($900). We looked at various animal surgery specialists and ultimately decided on South Paws (based on these reviews). We met with Dr. Charles for our initial appointment. He carefully and thoroughly checked over our cat and decided crate rest (where the animal is kept in confinement to prevent excessive movement) would be the best option. In the end, our overall payment for this ordeal was only a few hundred (for the first few appointments with our usual vet). Dr. Charles could have pushed for imaging/surgery but instead he chose the option which was in the best interest for our pet. He also didn€t charge us for our appointment with South Paws. After keeping our cat in confinement for the recommended three weeks, she became much better (but not 100%). I emailed South Paws for advice and received a detailed email and phone call in return. Even though we never became paying customers, South Paws were still more than happy to help with future enquiries. Read Less

Your pet could not be in any better hands than when they are at South Paws. The level of expertise, service and care is simply outstanding. We have had to visit on 3 occasions with our dog Angus, and each time the experience has exceeded expectations. We are never left guessing, we always know what is going on, everything is explained in detail and with clarity. Everyone at South Paws is friendly and you can really see that they all care. Another thing that sets South Paws apart is the personal touches. The photo we were given of Angus today following his operation almost bought a tear to my husband's eye and apparently that usually only happens at sporting events! Thank you South Paws :-) Read Less

Our lovely German Shepard Asha had leg surgery there, the day before we went on holidays,so we left her there while we were gone. They looked after her beautifully, and returned my emails straight away, when I asked how she was doing. Even sent me some Pictures. So apart from the wonderful medical care she got, we felt she was loved as well. A big thank you to all the team.

Only had brief dealings with them but liked what I saw and experienced .Well organized, friendly and efficient. Excellent communication. This a large, modern and well equipped clinic which specializes in cancer diagnosis and treatment together with general veterinary services. As I understand, it is owned by the American vet who previously ran the equally impressive Southern Animal Emergency Center which is just around the corner. Would definitely go back to them without any hesitation. Read Less

We were very satisfied with the care Southpaws gave our dog, and the support they gave us. The staff were friendly, helpful and always had time for us. The surgeon team are impressive, and were able to dig a tumour out from her brain. We were always confident she was given attention and kept comfortable when she had to stay there. I highly recommend Southpaws if you find yourself in a situation where you need a specialist veterinary clinic. Read Less

Surgery was good but that was the only good thing. The staff were extremely rude complaining my dog who is only 6 months old was overexcited after he had been resting in his crate for two weeks straight which was what was prescribed, not sure what they expected. Blonde receptionist with glasses was the rudest most unfriendly receptionist I've ever met, always looked at me like I was from another planet checking in.  Definitely won't be going back. Read Less
