Wish had never gone there. Took a cat that was fully vaccinated never been outdoors who became horrendously sick after a visit. Despite the outrageous charges place was not hygienic. Our cat caught cat flu, ringworm and had to get specialist veterinary care, which cost even more than the AEC charges. Our cats illness also put other animals at risk. Never in my entire life have I seen an animal get so many illnesses unrelated to the medical condition for which treatment was sought. Read Less

On Friday night my 16 year old West Higland Terrior was very sick at home. I contacted the Animal Emergency Centre who advised me to bring him up. They kept him over night performing multiple tests. I was kept up to date with everything that was happening to my dog. Sadly my dog was too sick and had to be put down. The staff at the Centre were very respectful and supportive and made a really tough day for me personally just a little bit better knowing they cared for my dog in his last few hours with so much care. Avoid this place at all costs. We bought our dog here because he was limping and we were informed by a very young and clearly inexperienced vet that he possibly had intervertebral disc disease and he was placed on NSAIDs. We then took him to our own vet for a follow up visit, who examined his prostate and tests later confirmed that his limping was associated with metastatic terminal prostate cancer. AEC needs to understand that people bypass their own vets and bring their beloved animals here because it is an EMERGENCY or it is clearly something that cannot wait until the following morning. For goodness sake, hire staff that are experienced!!! Read Less

I brought my cat in yesterday and was informed that whilst she stays overnight, she would be observed every hour, given pain relief and antibiotics, and her wound (a large dog bit part of her tail off) at least cleaned-up (sedation may be required). I called like they asked late at night and nothing had been done yet (six hours later) and was told that my cat would be treated shortly. This morning I called twice like they asked me to in arranging a pick-up time. When I picked-up my cat, I was informed that nothing had been done at all, asides from pain relief, due to my cat hissing and swiping (because she was clearly in distress and pain). My cat was only caged-up in her carrier or in one of their cages overnight. We were charged over $400 and for what? Our family is extremely disappointed in this center and would much prefer to travel far and wide for another vet clinic if we require a vet outside of the usual hours of our preferred veterinary practice. After leaving the AEC, we took our cat directly to our local vet, and she is now being cared for properly (and overnight). Tomorrow morning my cat will have part of her tail amputated as an urgent operation. Thank goodness for the support of our regular vet. Read Less

We brought our elderly cat in on a recent Monday public holiday with a severe facial abscess. He was seen immediately by a very pleasant triage nurse and place in a cage inside to settle down as he was distressed. There were a number of people there and being a holiday, more limited veterinary staff, so we had a wait for quite a while. When he was seen I could not fault the thoroughness and care given to him by the vet. She was also most informative as to his condition and progress and we eventually took him home. Full details of the treatment were sent by email forthwith to ourselves and our regular vet. Fees are substantial but understandably so for this service. Read Less

My dog was admitted with a life threatening incident late in the evening 2 weeks ago. By the time we had discussed her with the vet she had already had Xrays taken by other staff and a plan of action put in place. I received follow up calls in the night and was encouraged to contact them at any time if I wished. Every time I phoned I was able to speak with the vet on duty. I was allowed to visit her the next evening and given as much time as I wished. I felt confident my dog was receiving 24 hour care and the vets and staff I saw were all lovely. They kept my regular vet informed and I received a very detailed report of her treatments while she was there. She is recovering well and would have died had I not taken her there. My dog is dead because of them. $1800 to do a blood test and find out if she'd been bitten by a snake, who can afford that! For nothing, not even helping her just tests! We couldn't afford it so before we left I kept asking the vet, does my dog look really bad? Is this looking serious? His response? " You're telling me she's not herself, so she's sick." He did recommend a vet that might have been cheaper but he did not stress any urgency. My dog passed away later that night at home. She ran and hid and we found her dead. Having to use Animal Emergency is never a fun experience, but it's great to know they are around if needed.Animal emergency operate out of normal vet hours, so usually 6pm-9am.If you do need to come here, make sure you bring your credit card, and be prepared to pay. Usually they take a $500 part payment before they will even do an initial consultation. On the 2 occasions I went here it was to take two sick kittens. Both needed to be put down, but only after they had tried to rehydrate them, both occasions ended up costing $1000 plus. However, my parents have used AE when their cat ripped out her stitches after desexing and pulled out all her intestines. Their bill was in excess of $1500, but the cat survived and is going strong. The fact is in the position, most people will opt for this type of service rather than watch their animals suffer.
