Thornbury Vet

Thornbury, Victoria
General Info

As a team at the Thornbury Veterinary Hospital we help save animals lives and enable them to live happier, better quality and longer lives. We help people who love their pets in what can often be a stressful time for them. We feel so lucky to be able to do what we do. To us, it’s not just a job, it’s an ongoing commitment and dedication to your best friend, in whatever way you need us. We treat your pets like our own because we care and know how much they mean to you, just like our pets mean the world to us too.

Long-term colleagues, Dr Ash and Dr Seina opened the privately owned and operated clinic in 2012 and have more than 40 years combined experience. They are joined by a passionate team of experienced Vets and Nurses, who all have their own furry friends support them. We all have different stories as to why we worked so hard to get into the veterinary industry, but essentially for everyone, it all boils down to the simple fact that we love caring for animals and the people that love them.

Pop down and say hello, we love meeting the people and pets of our Community.

Team
Dr Seina graduated from Melbourne University in 1993 with honours. With over twenty years of experience in Veterinary medicine, Seina’s passion is in helping your pets to live longer, happier and healthier lives and aims to work with pet owners to treat every pet with the same care and compassion she would give to her own pets. Initially working in rural Victoria, Dr Seina saw many different species -working with horses, ostriches, pigs, sheep and cows. She also had a large caseload of dogs, cats, rabbits, and small rodents. In the country Dr Seina gained a love and a great deal of experience in surgery. After seven years in the country, Seina returned home to the inner suburbs of Melbourne and then later set up Thornbury Veterinary Hospital with her colleague Dr Ashleigh in 2012. Seina has two pets, Ally (a hyperactive schnauzer X poodle) and Gracie (a geriatric shih tzu cross), and two daughters (of the furless kind) Elsie and Maisie. Seina has also been fortunate enough to be able to volunteer her skills to pets less fortunate than our own, helping wildlife after the black Saturday bushfires and most recently with Darwin Animal Doctors (DAD) in the Galapagos Islands.
Dr. Ashleigh Long graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2005. She started practicing in small animal medicine in Gawler, South Australia. After an enjoyable three years at this multi-vet practice, Ashleigh moved back home to Melbourne be closer to her family. After seven years as an associate veterinarian, she opened up Thornbury Veterinary Hospital in 2012 with her colleague Dr. Seina Capp. Dr Ashleigh brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Thornbury Veterinary Hospital, and has a special passion for caring for senior pets and their ailments. Ashleigh loves running with her dogs, relaxing with a glass of wine and book. But her favourite past time is football (AFL) and she dares not mention whom she barracks for! Dr Ashleigh has three fur babies which she loves coming home to. Tex, a senior grey tabby, is Ashleigh’s original ‘baby’ and was rescued after being left on the doorstep at her first veterinary practice. Fondly known as “Meow meow’, his favourite things are meowing, head butting, and playing kung fu kitty with those silly dogs. The other members of the family are the ‘little supermodels’, Monty and Ava, two mischievous whippets. Dr Ashleigh also plays Aunty to a very adventurous Jack Russell, Oscie, whom house loads for large periods of time while his mum works overseas. Dr. Ash loves the circus that results

We have taken our greyhound Jeanie to see both Dr. Ashleigh and Dr. Seina and we couldn't recommend them both any higher. My partner and I were told when we adopted Jeanie that we have to make sure we take her to a vet that understands greyhounds as they can be quite different to other dogs and we absolutely lucked out with these two. Both having worked with greyhounds before their knowledge and expertise when it comes to greyhounds is second to none. Anyone looking for somewhere to take their greyhound, Thornbury Veterinary Hospital is your place to go. We're always greeted with a huge smile and friendly service by the nurses and will never take our Jeanie anywhere else. Read Less

As the owner of a cat who hates the vet (which cat doesn't?), I'm so grateful to Drs Seina, Jo and Ash who have all taken wonderful care of Gracie. They explain everything so clearly and thoroughly and answer all of my questions. You can tell they really love animals and know how to handle anxious cats. I have moved from the area and still travel back to Thornbury Veterinary Hospital because I feel so comfortable with them. If you have a cat who hates the vet, I highly recommend them. Read Less
