Awful experience, chasing money and showing so little care. Today we went in with a very sick rat who in her old age had been slowing down for a while, had lost a lot of weight in the last few weeks, was unabeu to walk properly, showing signs of stress such as grinding teeth, bleeding and very dehydrated. Having had a number of rats over the years we knew that sadly it was time to let her go, and that our regular and caring vets would've suggested euthanasia or at most one day of antibiotics if we really weren't ready to let her go. Our rat (referred to constantky as ''it' rather than by name or even 'she') was trotted out the back and were told she could be admitted, put on meds, fluids and tests done. When I asked if this was at all likely to result in a recovery was told only ''i can't say'. Talked about treatment and I had mentioned repeatedly her age, our experiences with rats etc, and making it clear we were considering it end of life as hunameky as possible (for rats even a day or so is a long time to suffer). Was then told '''oh as she had an operation before (happy to spend $550 where good chance of revovery but this very different...and went through this before with them with another rat where I spent a lot of money only to have them say within a day that the rat should be euthanised) I thought you would want to do everything you can' and various other statements designed to induce guilt and the payment of thousands for no good result. Once we made it clear what we wanted was no reassurance only an acknowledgement that yes she was very sick. Made the whole experience so much worse. Awful and clear money grabbing tactics rather than care. Itzstein is literally the worst vet I habe seen in 25 years of having cats, rats and dogs. Read Less
