I have had mixed experiences with Vet West Canning Vale, having been a client for some 10 years. In the earlier years I found them excellent. The receptionists, nurses and vets were friendly, empathetic and the treatment received was first class. They all knew me and my pets and couldn't do enough to assist. Sadly, I believe the quality of the service has declined in recent years, most particularly from the receptionist staff. I contacted the clinic this evening concerned about the health of my much loved cat, who has been a patient at the clinic for several years. I felt brushed off by the receptionist who was cold, lacked empathy and clearly didn't know me nor my cat. She told me they were fully booked, so I made an appointment for the next day, but she didn't seem to want to know my name nor my cat's name, so who knows if the appointment was made....and if so, for what. I felt like I was booking my car in for service rather than seeking urgent help for an animal that was miserable! She didn't care that I was clearly worried and, as someone who has a long medical background, I suggested that we really needed to look at urea, electrolytes, creatinine and LFTs and possibly some virology not only to put my mind at ease but to get to the bottom of the problem. Her response to my comment was to the effect of "that will determined by the vet, thank you very much!" I found that rude and inappropriate and so different from the wonderful receptionist staff I have dealt with at Vetwest in the past. Our animals are our "children" and they and their "parents" should be treated with empathy, respect and not to be essentially told "what would you know?". After 10 years, I think it may be time to try the new vet clinic just metres away from Vetwest. I think the large turnover of staff at Vetwest Canning Vale has resulted in a lack of continuity of care and in a lack of appreciation of long term loyal clients. However, seeing that the vets there have always been professional, I will give Vetwest one last chance but I think this particular receptionist needs an attitudinal change, otherwise clients such as myself will be lost.
