I have had mixed experiences at PVS. My experience with the medicine crew has been fantastic. Fluer is caring, compassionate and is able to communicated extremely clearly when it comes to complex issues. She was able to shed light on a condition, I had been told, could potentially kill our dog and set my mind at ease. She appears to be the best in her field and seems well informed with other current veterinary issues outside of cardiology. I wish all the staff working at PVS shared her professional traits. Dermitology on the other hand needs to take a leaf from her book. On multiple occasions they have failed to communicate clearly and have given mixed messages regarding my dog’s treatment. The staff seemed to continue to change their minds regarding my dogs treatment and failed to keep us informed. They seemed to assume that I understood the whole process throughout the treatment and were very reluctant to answer my questions. The reception system also could do with some work. The system in place makes it difficult to book appointments with individual departments. This also makes contacting a staff member from a specific department near impossible. Considering the amount of money people spend at PVS for treatments this is unacceptable. Read Less

A sincere thank you to all the exceptional team at PVS who provided such great care of Bella our Bichon Frise while she was undergoing treatment recently. (30/5 to 2/6/18) From the welcome at reception (particularly Sam & Kelly), the preliminary tests & diagnostic imaging, the consults with clear guidance on the options, the surgery & anaesthesia, to the inpatient care … were all handled with professionalism and compassion … capped off for us by a positive outcome.  Surgeon Dr Karen and her team, plus Dr Chloe, VN’s Paula & Rachel and the many others involved, were absolutely marvellous and especially understanding when dealing with anxious parents! I cannot recommend PVS services enough for ‘kids with paws’ after this experience. In the past we have also used Animal Emergency Care at PVS and found them equally competent and caring. Read Less

I bought an 11 week old Birman kitten from a registered breeder 9 days ago. She had bees de sexed the previous day and we were told to get her stitches taken out in 10 to 14 days. 2 days ago her wound had a hard lump under it and when squeezed, oozed horrible puss. I raced her straight to PVS as it was after hours. The vet took her and an hour later, came back to say that she had formed an abscess under the wound and if she isn’t operated on ASAP, she could suffer from internal damage. Then she said that it will cost $3000 to do it that night. I didn’t have that money to spare and reluctantly took her home with the plan to take her back the vet who originally sterilised her. The next morning we got there at opening time to confront the vet about the poor work they had done to our kitten. They looked at for a minute or two, then called us into the room. This vet then told us that it was just a senoma. It’s a very common side effect from operations, especially when the animal is very active. She drained the lump and have her antibiotics. For free. I don’t know how two vets can be so opposite in their appraisal, but I’m sure I’ll never go back to PVS ever again. They’re obviously out to maximise profits by deceit. Very very poor. Read Less

I have spent over $20,000 at this surgery to treat my dogs cancer but to no avail. He finally had his leg amputated to try and save his life and the surgery ending up costing almost $8.000, much more than I was quoted. My attempts to resolve this were met with basically a "tough luck" response; when you sat with the surgeon discussing the chance of your beloved pet dying during surgery, you should have had the foresight to ask for an itemised account. The fact that you didn't ask if anaesthesia, catheters, bandages, nurses etc were additional costs is your fault not ours. Now up to spending almost $30,000 I am.distressed and disgusted at the way I've been treated. Clearly this is about the money and there's no room for compassion. Fyi the majority of staff there are great but my dealings over this lack of transparency over my latest bill was with Mr Tim Caporn. Read Less

I take the opportunity to write a review of this vet. I am glad to see many people have a positive experience with this vet, although my experience was very uncomfortable and awkward. I have been very sick from the whole experience. I brought in a 85 year old man with his 16 year old dog. His dog had been in a fight with my dog and was bleeding under his eye, only minor injuries. I offered the man assistance and payment for having the dog checked by a vet. Because it was Sunday we had to go to this clinic. The dog was still very lifely. After 1 and half hours they took the dog away. A while later we were told it could take a while because they would put him under full anesthetics. I was a little alarmed by this, because it was such an old dog and thought it might be a little inconsiderate to stitch up the minor wounds he had under full anesthesia, but there seems no other way apparently because the dog will definitely bite the surgeon if not fully anesthesised. Maybe I could suggest a sleeping tablet and clean the wounds, but hey I not an expert here. Alas when we returned after the hour they told us to come back, we had to wait for a while again..... to finally hear that they ended up resusitating the dog after they had proceeded with the surgery procedures and if we wanted them to continue resusitating. The old man decided not to proceed. I had to pay the bill which was said “half price” $850. I’ve had to deal with quite some serious adversities in my life. I tell you this one is ranking high on my list. I tell you we were not happy when we drove home. There is nothing you can do and I am not a person who wants to blame anyone for anything, however I think they can improve on things. The man said on the way home: “They killed my dog.” I could not say that it was not true. It is always hard to loose pet, this is not my prefered way if I had anything to say about it. Even though I can’t point to anything they did wrong really, I would not go there again, only if I absolutely had no choice, and even then.... I’m not sure. We have a choice, do we? Read Less

With much apprehension, I went to our first oncology appointment. I am happy. Even though she's not magically cured, I'm as content as I can be. My first impression of Perth Veterinary Specialists (Ken Wyatt) is one of compassion. I struggled to retain all the information but I never felt rushed. If he thinks I'm a crazy dog lady for wanting to make the treatment experience as stress-free as possible for Zuri, he didn't let on! And Zuri's response to him was phenomenal for a dog who can panic when touched by strangers. He gave her time and she responded without fear. Ken was true to his word and helped make further investigation and treatment as stress free and fear fear as we could for Zuri. This is awesome and rare in busy practices, so I don't take this for granted for one second. Our experience isn't over yet, but so far so good. Read Less

Dr. Ken Wyatt is the very best Vet Oncologist, and we couldn't have asked for a more "cutting edge" knowledgable, intelligent and most compassionate doctor. He gave us all the alternatives with all the pros n cons so we can make an informed decision. However, the thing we are most grateful was the speed in which he organised the various tests and CTscans and he emailed or contacted us within hours of dropping off our dog so we never had to worry for long. Our jack russell, Gromit looks like she's lucky enough to have surgery (aggressive mandibular osteosarcoma) and we want her to have an autologous vaccine as well for the best chance of good health till her natural age. I cannot praise the vets here highly enough. We had quite a big scare with our 10 year old dog and were referred to the vet specialists for further investigation. We saw Dr Fleur and she is the loveliest and most caring vet I have ever encountered. She took the time to get a full history about our dog and she asked many questions to narrow down the cause of why our dog was unwell. She was very knowledgeable and made me feel as though our dog was in safe hands. Fleur ran a number of tests and determined the cause and treated her appropriately and she made a full recovery.I am forever grateful to the staff there for the care we received and I would recommend them to anyone. I have been so impressed with PVS ever since my baby girl got diagnosed with Osteosarcoma I might add that my normal vets sent her here as they were certain it was a ruptured cruciate ligament. I was obviously devatstated when I learned the prognosis which I'm sure would have taken a lot longer if it weren't for the amazing vetinarians at PVS. They did a thorough exam and gave me so much knowledge and information about this type of bone cancer to make the decision I did. Their oncologists Jess and Ken are the most down to earth, lovely people who have a deep, genuine care for animals and their wellbeing, I instantly knew my girl was in good hands. From the reception staff, to the oncologists, to the vetinarians and the surgeons, I cannot fault PVS. I only hope and pray that the loss of her leg and the chemotherapy my girl recieved has given her a few more happy years with her family and I would do it again in a heartbeat as PVS's top priority is maintaining the animals quality of life. Thank you ever so much PVS, you are all Peppa's extended family now. Also a very big shout out to BowWowMeow pet insurance who have been there every step of the way assisting with the funding. It's never been a fight or a wait for the funds, claim in, wait a few days and bam, money in my account no questions asked. If it weren't for you guys, I would never have been able to afford this for my girl, but I would have made it work, she's worth every cent! Xxx Leah & Peppa McDonnellRead Less

Read Less

He gave us all the alternatives with all the pros n cons so we can make an informed decision. Our jack russell, Gromit looks like she's lucky enough to have surgery (aggressive mandibular osteosarcoma) and we want her to have an autologous vaccine as well for the best chance of good health till her natural age.
