Worst experience ever! Avoid this veterinary clinic as they are more interested in making money than in taking care of your pet.
They charged us over $4,250, whereas most of the treatment was excessive and prolonged and could have been avoided.
Our dog ended up at the clinic on Saturday evening (22/02) after he experienced a heat stroke. The dog was under the care of our friends as we were on holiday overseas at that time.
Our friend took him to the clinic and contacted us via phone. We spoke with one of the vets, and she informed us that dog is in awful condition and most likely will pass away overnight. She added that if he survives, he will have in all probability some organs damaged and will require special treatment. At that point, she estimated the cost of treatment at $2000 (fluids, medication, oxygen and emergency medical assistance). Fair enough!
Next day our friend was in touch with vets, and he was advised that the dog is still doing poorly and must stay one more day under vet care as they claimed he was struggling to breathe and had horrible liver results. In the evening, they requested the dog to stay overnight for further observation and promised to get the blood sample promptly for examination to assess the liver problem. They told our friend he would be informed on the results in the morning the next day and the dog should be released home at that time.
Our friend contacted the clinic on Monday morning. He was told that the vet was gone for the shift, and the blood sample was not taken. The anticipated results were not available; for that reason, the dog should stay in the clinic undergoing the same treatment ( oxygen, fluids, medications). Throughout the day, our friend did not receive any update from vets neither the blood results. The clinic was adding extra hours to the bill and did not bother to contact him at all. He tried to get any information around noon but still no results and no update!
We arrived at Perth on Monday evening and headed the clinic straight from the airport. When we got there, we found our sweet boy placed in the cage. Many tubes were inserted in his body (oxygen, some fluids). We were informed that he is still in bad condition, struggling to breathe and with worrying liver results. When we removed him from the cage and disconnected from tubes, he was very stiff, absolutely intoxicated with drugs, but we could not notice any problem with his breathing at all.
It turned out the blood results were available at about 4:30 pm and still, nobody bothered to call my friend with the update even that they knew he was waiting for the information. Being upset with the fact that they informed us that the dog has severe issues with breathing and liver that caused the threat to his life, whereas that seemed not to be a case, and not being given blood results or any update from the clinic for the whole day, we requested the discharge for our dog.
We had a long and unpleasant discussion with one of the junior staff about the treatment and its enormous cost of $4.25k. She contacted doctors involved in the case via phone to learn more about what happened. They gave different statements about why the blood results were unavailable and suggested our friend lied about the poor communication and false promises they gave him. They did not let us talk to doctors directly to clarify the situation. That was very upsetting and arrogant…
We disagreed with the part of the bill (Monday charges) but were forced to pay it as they refused to release the dog otherwise. After expressing our disappointment with the service, we received on Monday, and the overcharging for unnecessary treatment, we were warned that the cost could be even higher if they will be forced to go thoroughly and add extra items to the bill! Do you believe it!?
The only cooperative and understanding person was the receptionist. She was lovely and helped us go quickly through all bureaucracy with this colossal bill payment.
After coming back home, our dog kept improving every hour. We stayed up all night watching him closely. He had no problem with breathing and started being full of life in no time. We were sure the drug effect wore off, and he is quite alright considering an exaggerated pessimistic diagnosis from the clinic. We are not sure if a miracle happened or something was wrong with the Waves diagnosis, but our boy was just fine by the morning!!!
In the morning (Tuesday), we took our dog to the local vet for independent examination. The doctor confirmed that the dog had no issues with breathing! They conducted blood and urine testing and results affirmed that our sweet boy is in perfect condition. There was no need to drug him or keep him under oxygen therapy. The vet acknowledged that the treatment received on Monday was dragged on and excessive, and the oxygen treatment was genuinely unnecessary.
I am grateful to Waves clinic for helping my dog on Saturday, but absolutely dissatisfied and frustrated about poor communication and management, unnecessary costs and stress caused to my dog on Monday. Unpleasant comments from clinic staff that we should be ready to pay any money no matter how high the fee was to help our dog did indeed disappoint me, especially the service they charged us for Monday was more than was needed and I would say it did more harm than good to my dog. Independent examination gave us the confidence that something was done seriously wrong at the clinic on Monday. Too many people were involved, and the situation poorly managed. Shocking was the fact that they tried to convinced us that our friend lied about Monday's communication with doctors! Even more shocking was the fact that they claimed the condition was life-threatening, but they did not bother to give us any update on Monday:( Please consider our experience before using this clinic service… Read Less
