Last week, my dog started to become uninterested in food and was coughing on and off. At first, we though he may have a dental problem but the refusal to eat food and the coughing and gagging was very concerning so we booked an appointment at this clinic to have the doctor take a look at his teeth and run some tests to see if something else could be wrong. I was able to get him an appointment this past Saturday, September 12, and the doctor came in, had ME open his mouth and looked from across the room and said “yes, he needs scaling and possibly more. We’re the cheapest in town for this service.” Please bear in mind, he did not even come close to my small dog, so he couldn’t possibly have seen his mouth properly. I mentioned the fact that he has been refusing food and has been coughing and gagging several times and he told me he’s fine, it’s just his teeth. My dog was distressed but they said they would take blood work and proceeded to hand me a muzzle for him, which I completely understand. My dog was so stressed and when the nurse took him, she actually dropped him on the counter, hitting his head. I asked her to please hold him under his bum so she doesn’t drop him again. 5 minutes later they bring him back and tell me they’ll give pain meds and antibiotics. I asked them why, and they told me ‘for pain and infection’. When I questioned them and asked how they could know that he has an infection, when they didn’t even do an exam, they told me it was preventative. I also noted that with him refusing to eat it might be very difficult to give him a syringe full of medicine into him twice a day and they didn’t seem to care. They charged me $200 for the vet to not even touch my animal and take some blood and basically hurried me out the door and told me they would call me in a couple of days with the blood test results.
Fast forward to today, Monday, and my dog was worsening in His condition. My mom, being very concerned, after trying to get him to eat and drink for the last day. She called the vet as soon as they opened ask the test for the test results, which she was told they did not have yet, and booked an appointment to bring him in as soon as they could take him this morning. She brought him in, saw the same vet, and my poor, suffering dog was giving a brief exam. The same doctor that saw him this past Saturday checked his temperature, listened to his heart, and said he was “just fine” and that, again, they would call us with the results of the blood test when they got them later this evening. As soon as my mom got him home, he was lethargic and would not move. She tried to give him water via syringe which is what this horrible, negligent doctor suggested and so, my mom called the vet again and told him what was going on and they assured her that he was fine and nothing was physically wrong with him, that he was just “stressed”. My mom had decided to take him to emergency since the Bddnington animal clinic would not seem to hear or care that something was very wrong with our dog. I called again and asked for the blood test results as my mom was getting ready to take him to emergency and was told the blood tests were fine, he was fine, and that the coughing and the not eating was likely due to, you fucking guessed it, STRESS. Within 30 minutes my dog was DEAD on the floor of my mothers kitchen, in her arms. Please tell me how TWO visits to this doctor being able to see that something was not right initiate enough concern for this incompetent doctor to tell us to take him to emergency THIS MORNING WHEN SOMETHING MY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE DONE???!!! Now, my 9 year old puppy, who was healthy up until a few short days ago is dead and I spent my night at a real HUMANE veterinary clinic picking out urns for my FAMILY MEMBER!
The most important thing to note is that my mother and myself, in two separate vet visits and 4 phone calls, expressed great concern and we were not listened to. We were treated with disrespect and treated as an annoyance and now, our beautiful Dexter, is gone forever.
First thing in the morning, I am contacting a lawyer to see what, if anything, I can do to prevent this clinic from ever treating a helpless animal again and a very thorough complaint is being submitted to the ABVMA as I believe with my whole heart that this man should NEVER TREAT OR TOUCH AN ANIMAL EVER AGAIN.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR SICK ANIMALS TO THIS MAN. I AM BEGGING YOU TO GO ELSEWHERE, EVEN IF IT COSTS MORE. I will never get my beloved dog back. Read Less
