Dr. Murphy 5 stars Dr. Douglas 0 stars Definitely go with Dr. Murphy stay far away from Dr. Douglas. I would argue that Dr Murphy is one of the most intelligent vets in all of Alberta. Dr. Douglas on the other hand is horrible. I brought my toy poodle Tara to Britannia Kingslands vet because she refused to walk long distances, acutely became extremely reactive and aggressive, was yelping in pain when people picked her up, was having panic, had anxiety attacks every night and became a completely different dog. Dr. Douglas barely looked at her and told me she looks fine. I was frustrated with that answer and went to Dr. Murphy. Turned out Tara had brain cancer. She eventually started having seizures and was put down by Dr. Douglas. Dr. Douglas was very rude didn't even read her file as to why she was being put down came into the room as I was sitting crying because I had to euthanize my dog and started interrogating me about why I was euthanizing my dog because she didn't read the file stating she was having 3 minute long seizures due to brain cancer... She's a horrible vet and I highly recommend you never go to her but on the flipside Dr. Murphy is an absolutely amazing vet and I would go to her a million times over Read Less

Alexandria, After careful review of the medical records and speaking to our doctors on staff, it has come to our attention that your depiction of the events leading up to and including the euthanasia of your pet are entirely inaccurate. I will start by saying that our medical records directly contradict the information you have provided regarding which doctor you saw and when. It is clearly identified that you were seen by Dr. Douglas only once within the last year, and that was for euthanasia only. We welcome you to contact us at any time to review the medical record information so that the misperceptions on your part can be clarified and resolved. Secondly, Dr. Douglas is a long-time clinician at our practice who is incredibly compassionate and well respected. Not only does she practice high quality medicine, but she also consistently demonstrates a level of kindness and care to her patients that makes her one of the most beloved veterinarians in Calgary. She has always maintained a professional, yet warm attitude towards clients and their pets and it is indeed these many wonderful qualities that make us proud to have her as a member of our team here at Britannia Kingsland Veterinary Clinic. I have no doubt that Dr. Douglas would have treated your pet with the same sincere compassion and warmth that she displays on a daily basis to each and every patient who walks through our clinic doors.

Worst vet clinic I've ever had the misfortune of taking my pets to.Nearly killed my Bulldog during a routine neuter because they didn't keep him hydrated, even though I paid the extra money to keep him hydrated. They overstated their competence levels, showed no remorse and left me with a near dead dog that then cost me $20K in surgery to keep alive who now has a permanent hole in his throat to breathe from; all because they didn't give him a drink of water after waking from anesthesia. And before they let me take my choking, black tongued and near dead dog to the hospital who now had a completely preventable  grade 3 collapsed trachea,  they made sure I paid my bill before I left. Two VERY easy steps could gave saved my dogs life: 1: they could have gave my dog some water after surgery instead of leaving him alone for an hour without checking on him (as they'd noted in his surgical file faxed to the hospital), 2: called me earlier. I was at the vets 11 minutes after they called me to tell me "somethings gone wrong".  Their own clinic notes, as released to me from the hospital that saved his life, showed that a full hour had passed before they called me. What went wrong was they found him panting himself into a collapsed trachea, knew it was a matter of not giving him water and instead of calling me at that exact minute, they then tried to take a situation they were not fit to handle into their own hands in a pathetic attempt to save face (not my dogs life). It wasn't until my dog had panted himself to a near dead state that they called me. I could hear him choking from the front door as soon as I walked in, his tongue was a foot long and black,  hanging out of his mouth and his eyes were sheer terror and non-coherent.They are incompetent with short nosed breeds, will state otherwise and say "accidents happen".  No, "neglect happened" and they're lucky I haven't sued - I'm too busy paying off my emergency surgery bills and the daily dog care my dog now needs to afford a lawyer. A tip, drive a little way down McLeod Trail to Fish Creek Animal Hospital and go to a group of  competent, ethical and genuinely caring, professional vets. These Ladies are incompetent and lack remorse, but, their profit margins certainly aren't suffering - just their patients Stick to the nail trims and anal gland extractions, Ladies. You certainly don't know how to give water or use a phone when a surgery goes awry. You disgust me. Read Less

I took my dog here and loved the knowledge Dr. Murphy has and shared.  I have been to other vets but this was by far the most thorough initial exam.  Dr. Murphy practices wholistic medicine as well as conventional so she will pull from either or both areas to ensure my dog gets the best care needed (alas my pup has allergies and a compromised immune system but the good news is that Dr. Murphy is helping her get better).   We have been to homeopathic vets and conventional vets and in my opinion Dr. Murhpy is the best blending of both.
