Great clinic to bring your pet. Dr. Patel is very kind and professional. Not sure why others rated this place with one star, as I haven't experienced any negative behaviour by the doctor or support staff. My dog Rico is an American Pitbull Terrier with lots of energy and Dr. Patel is always friendly and playful with him and explains everything. I've been bringing my dog here since the clinic opened. Dr. Patel has no clue how to handle dogs. I brought my pup here for his second set of puppy shots, and my pup started teething on him. He violently shook my dog's head and shouted "no biting" and told me I needed to control him better. He riled up my pup and this made my pup go after his fingers, and he just handled him roughly without any compassion and seemed as if he was just after the money. No explanations on what vaccines he gave until I had to ask. Very abrupt and rude! The prices are lower for a reason. Take your money elsewhere for he caused my dog to now fear going to the vet. I have been involved with various aspects of the pet industry for about 27 years. Breeding and showing dogs, a pet groomer, training in various aspects from obedience, agility, tracking, movies, etc. boarding, consulting, nutrition, rescue, foster, nursing back to health from major cuts to diabetic animals needing subcutaneous fluids everyday. I have met many vets over the years. This was my first visit to Dr. Panel's establishment and I am very, very pleased with the care. He is a man who does not push unnecessary tests, add on's, etc. And went above and beyond to also help me with something I needed for another dog without demanding to get paid a consultation fee. His prices are exceptional, especially for those of us who love our pets but do not have large bank accounts. He reminds me very much of the old time vets I used to deal with 20 years ago. Our experience with Dr. Patel and his receptionist was great. We had to euthanize our dog. They treated us kindly and with complete dignity. The price they quoted on the phone was what we paid with no hidden fees when you go to pay. Not to mention that his prices were a third of what other vets charge! Read Less

If you have a dog, don't go. Don't let the lower prices entice you they did to me. There's a reason the prices are so low. I don't know what kind of vet can't read dog body language, but apparently this one can't. I blame myself for continuing to go to this vet after a bad experience. He was rough with my puppy, not taking his time, not understanding or gentle. He would constantly grab and roughly pull my puppy by his collar, instead of trying to gently and slowly examine him. I had to stop the examination. At the end, he pulled my dog's leash to drag him toward him for NO REASON. Why the heck would you pull a scared dog towards you when his body language is screaming GO AWAY. I told him to stop pulling my dog. Some of the receptionists are nice, but others are just so bad with customer service. I took my dog to a new vet and he did SO much better!! He loves the new vet and was super happy to see them. It is more expensive than here but it is so much more worth it. Now I have to work on repairing the damage this vet caused to my puppy who is just learning about the world and what to be scared of. He doesn't like having his ears or eyes examined anymore even though I have been desensitizing him since he was 8 weeks old. I take him to puppy class 2-3 times a week, I train him 3-5 times a day as well as multiple walks, but now I have to start all over again with his ears because of this. My puppy used to be scared of nothing, he even started to like baths, until I saw this vet. Not coming back here ever again. I felt a serious lack of respect towards myself and my puppy. I have so much more to say (like how they tried to charge me $40 instead of $10) but it just isn't worth. Please do what's good for your dogs and consider another vet! (PS. Absolutely love this place! Originally starting going here because I had heard it was way less expensive than other vets, which is very true. But I love the experience too! Crystal, the assistant/receptionist is super friendly and clearly loves animals. I usually go there and just let my cats roam around the waiting room as it is always empty and they're a handful. One of them decided to climb her chair while the other one sat on her desk meowing at her. Instead of being annoyed or bothered at all she just kept talking to my kittyas he mowed at her being like, "oh is that right" "oh tell me more". The doctor himself seems a little quieter but he clearly knows what he's doing. My cats have never been nervous around him. One time I even had to cancel last minute as my cat started smoking and died halfway there. No extra charge for not showing up and they were super understanding! Read Less

Oops! ok! so I brought my cat Wednesday to the clinic almost a year ago to get her shots (all three at different times, about 2 weeks apart as per usual) and I'll admit the vet didn't really seem like a "people" person, he was very "all business" which is fine! Because I was there for my cat not me! He took excellent care of my cat, and he knew exactly what he was doing, she didn't even cry. WONDERFUL! bonus, they are much less expensive than any other vet. Awesome vet and the best prices in town. A no frills type place, you get what you pay for. My puppy is a tiny, but hard to manage at the vet. For vaccinations, she needs to be restrained. The vet and vet tech are awesome about doing holds on her that help her relax and allow them to do their jobs. Afterwards she always gets praise and plays with the vet until he's forgiven in her mind! My cats also adore him, which is weird for cats at the vet! I am writing this review to warn people about this clinic.  We are new to the area and looking for a new vet.  I found Dr Patel through the Yelp reviews.  I have an Italian Greyhound who needed her anal glands expressed.  She has had problems in the past.  When Dr Patel examined her he said that her glands were indeed hard but he had a lot of trouble getting it released.  Throughout the whole time he was asking me what symptoms she had "like scooting or licking".  She didn't have any symptoms so he was implying that she was fine.  He managed to get a very small amount of dark material out.  I asked if the glands maybe needed flushing - as my other vet had done that in the past.  He basically dismissed the idea and we left.I knew something was not right.  I took her back to our old vet in St Albert and her right gland is clogged and needs to be flushed.  The vet tech told me that another vet never should have let her leave the clinic as the gland could burst or become infected at the very least.Dr Patel was not thorough or caring.  I would never recommend him. Dr.R.Patel did the vaccinations on my Boston. He did end up reacting to them. One phone call, and this vet was waiting for my Oscar. He got to work right away and stopped Oscar's reaction. It was scary watching our boy swell. But, with his quick actions, he was able to turn around and send us home with Oscar! I am impressed with his practice. I went to this clinic a couple months ago, it was my first time. I wasn't impressed as the vet was running late. I was told he was free and could take me 30 mins earlier than expected, so I go over early and he was busy. So, I didn't get in any earlier than what my previous appointment time had been. Once the vet saw me, he wasn't that talkative. I was quite upset because my cat was in bad shape and it was mostly me asking questions trying to get his thoughts without doing any tests just a basic exam. I had wanted some reassurance...The end decision was my cat ended up being euthanized.  It would have been nice if the vet seemed sympathetic or even apologized for my loss. He did the whole procedure without talking to me at all and left the room immediately and just seemed cold. Also during my appointment the vet left a couple times to see other clients and made me wait longer which annoyed me as I should have had all his attention. Read Less

After calling around to various vets around the city, I settled on Prairie Winds for the euthanasia of my extremely ill 17 year old cat. Their extended hours and low prices drew us here, but I was also quite pleased with the compassion and sympathy offered to me and my family. They understood the urgency of our situation and despite us being half an hour late for our 6pm appointment, they did not rush us at all (we were there until after closing) and handled the situation very professionally. We opted to have our kitty privately cremated and I am confident she is being handled with care and dignity.Price was a huge concern for our family, and I was amazed at how expensive euthanasia is! All the vets I spoke with gave me quotes of $125 and up for the euthanasia, except for Fish Creek which was $89. Prairie Winds charges only $40. The sedation beforehand was an extra $20. We paid $106 for the private cremation, where everyone else I spoke to was a minimum of $120.Though I can't give an opinion on their other services, I can say I will opt to bring my other pets here in the future, despite it being quite far out of my way. Jane and Dr Patel made our final moments with our beloved kitty as comfortable and dignified as possible and I will be eternally grateful for that. Read Less
