Several years ago we moved to Edmondton from Davis, Ca where the world premier Veterinary mebical school and hospital cared for our pets for over 40 years. Relocating to Edmonton from California presented many stresses, none less than ensuring continuity of care for our elderly pets. Much of our investigations led us to Companion so we eagerly signed up. During the ensuing years the caregivers have consistently provided phenominsl care and advice, including appropriate reversals to critical care options rather that just trying to deal with severe issues themselves. Coming from a top notch vetinary medical environment it was very reassuring to know and experience appropriste opportunities. This same situation came into play with an adult rescue dog we adopted and who required destress trainibg. The fact that Companion also has a team of compassionate and qualified trainers presented a heartfelt option for our very dear to become acclimated and cfortanle engaging with life outside the enclosure. Dr. Benoit and his staff always take the time to be kind and caring to all my animals. They helped me through the loss of a pet and have now started treating a new young addition. He is so open to questions, is up on the latest research and options for treatment. I am so happy Companion Veterinary Clinic opened in the neighbourhood when I was looking for a new vet. Great customer service and they offer training as well. My dog loves coming here for his check ups. The veterinary staff are great at explaining things and treat the animals very well. Companion Vet changed my faith in vet clinics, thanks to Dr. Benoit and his wonderful staff!A little back story:  After multiple terrible experiences, my Boxer/Coonhound (clownhound) Brutus, had severe anxiety and became terrified of the vet. It got to the point where his fear was turning into aggression and the vet he was going to was scared to get near him. The thing is, Brutus is not aggressive. He's never bit anyone in his life, so I decided it was time to find a new vet. I did some research and was referred to Companion Vet by several people, and just in time! Brutus had broken his nail lengthwise and it was starting to get infected. We wanted to work on muzzle training him before we had to go to the vet again, just so we could have better control over him if it came down to it. He's always been sensitive about his paws being touched, so I was a little worried that it was going to instantly become a bad experience for him again, but needless to say, he was injured and needed to see the doctor. As soon as we arrived, Brutus's energy was instantly better in comparison to his old vet, where by the time we arrived at the door he would be shaking and terrified. The wonderful girls at the front desk instantly made us feel at home and they came out from behind the counter to pet Brutus and give him some delicious hypo-allergenic treats. Dr.Benoit brought us in right away and Brutus loved him. I told him that Brutus's favorite treat was cheese, and coincidentally they had frozen cheese popsicles in the back for him which kept him happily distracted as the doctor looked at his foot. It turned out that Brutus had to be put under anesthesia so that Dr.Benoit could trim his broken nail. We got to stay in the room for the entire process which kept Brutus a lot more comfortable. After all was said and done, his nail was fixed, they trimmed all of his nails, cleaned his ears, and sent us home with antibiotics, painkillers, and a new allergy medication to try and Brutus wasn't traumatized, AND it didn't break the bank!I would highly recommend Companion Vet, especially to anyone who's dogs are terrified of the vet, or have dogs with aggression. The doctors at Companion Vet are the first Fear Free certified doctors in Alberta, and you wouldn't believe the difference that having a fear free doctor will make. Read Less

Dr. Benoit was fantastic. Really good with my dog - making sure she was comfortable the whole checkup. The front desk staff were excellent as wel. My dog can be reactive to other dogs. As soon as they saw my.dog was uncomfortable in the slightest, they gave me a private room to take my dog so she could relax. I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic after my amazing experience. This is my personal favorite vet in the city. Competitive prices but more importantly the vets there are incredibly honest and knowledgable. They don't beat around the bush or try to pull fast ones. They are just all around awesome. I bring both my dogs and my cat there and I would highly reccomend to anyone looking for an awesome vet! Read Less

I have always thought they were expensive. I started giving our dog her shots at home because it's so expensive to have the vet do it but rabies has to be done by a vet because it has to be registered so when she was due I made an appt. For a rabies shot only and it cost $120.00 because the vet insists on a checkup with the shot. I still dont understand why. She has to have the shot no matter what. So its a straight up money grab. Excellent care from Dr. Benoit and all the staff! They took care of my senior cat a couple years ago, and now I've brought my new kitten for her checkup and vaccinations, and they've always made our visits so smooth and easy. This veterinary clinic is the best I've ever been to. All of the staff do an amazing job with the animals. Service is always top notch, you never ever feel uncomfortable asking any kinds of questions. It is a one stop shop for excellent pet care and excellent pet training. Dr. Benoit always takes the time to be thorough with all examinations and any concerns that you have with your pet. It's never a cookie factory visit, you leave feeling satisfied with your service. All of the trainers and behaviorists are always understanding of any issues that your pet may be facing. And they always have multiple solutions and dedication to helping you have the happiest, well adjusted and behaved pet. The training is mostly for the people anyhow. Jessica did private training sessions with us and our dog, Ralph, at our home. She really helped us tune up Ralph's obedience and leash walking before we have a baby. After just 2 sessions - and lots of practice! - we noticed a great difference! Absolutey, hands down my favourite clinic in the city. I would recommend this place time and time again. The way the dr handled and cared for my dogs was amazing. Usually dr's don't get 1 foot away from my very little timid and shy dog but he was able to give a full exam ( without getting bit) .... I'm honestly still in shock. The staff at Companion are by far the best in the city. I have always felt they cared for my dogs. In the past I have gone to vets all over Edmonton and surrounding areas and I've always felt like they cared more about my money and not my dogs but since coming to companion 3 years ago, I have felt nothing but love. My dog Molson just passed away from cancer. I was able to spend more time with him because the vet at Companion told me what she would do if this was her dog and because of that I was able to find out my dog had cancer. Iam so thankful for everyone at Companion. The fact that they sent me a card and all personally signed it with a little message made the world to me. I wish there was a way to give more than 5 stars, because Dr. Benoit and his team are amazing. Unfortunately, we make frequent trips to the vet because of skin/allergy issues with our dog, but VERY fortunately, Dr. Benoit and his staff make sure its a pleasant visit every time. Dr. Benoit is very knowledgeable, resourceful and thorough. Several options for different courses of treatment have been suggested and tried, and as a result we have seen improvement. While not completely solved, we are so happy to have such a fantastic vet that truly has the best interest of our dog in mind while we are working towards a solution. Dr Benoit and his team were the most caring, compassionate, wonderful people during our time of sorrow as we had to say goodbye to our sweet cat, Suki last weekend. From the time she was diagnosed to the time we had to let her go, they made sure we and our kitty were ok. The sadness of our loss is a little easier knowing she was in such good hands. The crematorium they use was also wonderful- the notes of sympathy from both lifted our spirits.
