The only downside to the Holistic Vet is the location - it is just off Whyte Ave and there is limited parking. That being said - it is worth the trek! We visited Dr Marshall a handful of times - most often, in addition to seeing our regular vet (who is also amazing). Dr Marshall takes the time to listen, she thoroughly checks over the pup and then makes recommendations. I have never felt pressure to spend money or pay for unnecessary things. My dog has had acupuncture and regularly takes supplements to keep him healthy and strong. The staff is always pleasant and have helped me over the phone, saving me a trip. Read Less

When we adopted Zuul, he had major stomach issues. He had the big "D" all the time, vomiting, and scratching himself raw. Initially I took him to a vet clinic in our neighbourhood. The experience was terrible, he was scared and was held down for tests. The vet said he needed to be on medication for the rest of his life and recommended the kibble sold at her clinic.I didn't like the idea of giving medication to my 2 year old dog, that didn't heal his illness but just suppress the symptoms. So I looked for another opinion, and made an appointment with Dr. Lex.Walking into our first appointment, the experience was completely different in the most wonderful way! First, the clinic doesn't look like a typical clinic. It looks more like a nice relaxing spa with a zen feel and warm colours. They have a couch in each room, and use this instead of that cold steel examining table. Second, the staff is wonderful. My dog is not good with 99% of people. He gets scared and can act aggressive. The staff and Dr. Lex were amazing with handling him. I was surprised how my dog was at ease and went through the examination without fear or stress. We've had several appointments with Dr. Lex, and Zuul is so happy to see him when he walks in. And last, the recommendations made by Dr.  Lex has completely healed our dog's stomach issue. Had he taken the medication given to him from the first clinic, he would be facing the side effects which included kidney failure and losing this teeth later on in his life. Our dog is now free from medication and a healthy boy!I recommend Edmonton Holistic Vet to everyone. Read Less

Our first visit to this clinic was for a scheduled neuter, during the pre surgery check up the Veterinarian suggested we do some routine blood work. After the blood work the Vet told us our dog had worms...we had taken every precaution while our dog was a puppy to prevent this so we were worried. Although he had shown no signs of worms, no bleeding in stool etc. We were sold new worm meds (not cheap). We provided the clinic with a stool sample and more blood work was done. $. All tests came back negative to worms. BUT! Now he has a blood clot issue. More tests were done. We were told this had to be stat and they would call us later that day. $$. 48 hours later I drove to the clinic, the staff seemed surprised to see us, they had not looked at our dogs results yet. After going through the negative results together the Vet told us our dog most likely has a bone marrow issue or lime disease. Our dog has been given the proper medication to prevent Ticks...at this point we have caught onto what was going on. The Vet informed us lime disease is rancid in Saskatchewan (location of our breeder) I asked to see documented proof. She opened the book and pointed to the only province with 0 documented cases, Saskatchewan. At this point we asked for our file to get another opinion at another clinic. We did, after hearing about our experience with this clinic they did a free checkup and blood work. All tests were still negative, our dog is perfectly healthy. Thanks Holistic Veterinarian Clinic for charging us north of $750 in tests on a healthy dog. Lost our business and any dog owner's we know. Read Less

I first brought my dog, Bailey to see Dr. Steve Marsden at EHV when she was 15 years old. She had been diagnosed with a lung tumor and had a heart murmur.A surgeon at another clinic wanted to operate on her tumor, but I felt that she would not survive surgery; or she would have one entire lung removed. (And, my brother's best friend, a cancer surgeon of the human kind had even recommended not proceeding with surgery). Had the Universe not stepped in, and not had an opening with Dr. Steve two days after the surgical consult, I would have succumbed to the pressure to have surgery for Bailey.Dr. Steve calmed my fears in the first visit. And, of course Bailey loved him immediately, because he fed her treats the whole time he was getting her history! Dr. Steve was very thorough in taking the medical history and in his first examination of Bailey. He prescribed Chinese herbs and the lung tumor shrunk! There was only the primary tumor and no further growths. Anywhere. Her heart condition stabilized. When Bailey developed arthritis in her hips in the fall of 2016 (age 17) - I was happy to know that she could have massages and chiropractic adjustments to help her walking.Kendra is an awesome massage therapist for your furry companions. Bailey loved her.In the one picture you can see her getting her massage with Kendra. The massage treatments and chiropractic adjustments along with acupuncture kept her going for walks, even though she was slower as she got older.Dr. Lex and Dr. Steve always answered my many questions, were always gentle with Bailey and took their time with treatments.Bailey loved getting treats at the front counter when she was weighed, and got to enjoy a couple of times when she snuck through the slightly opened desk gate at the front and checked out the back of the clinic and the staff dogs.I had taken Bailey to the Blessing of the Animals on October 1, 2017.Dr. Steve and his family was there, with their own two Weimeraners.Dr. Steve took the time to take a couple of pictures of Bailey being blessed and emailed them to me. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in that regard.Bailey went to be with the Angels on Friday, October 27, 2017 at the age of 18 years, 3 months and 18 days. Dr. Steve took the time to meet with me 3 days later to provide me with his feedback on what really happened with Bailey at the end of her journey. (Unfortunately, she did not transition at EHV as I would have wanted). Thank you for your time, Dr. Steve.I will forever be grateful for how the vets and staff helped Bailey have the chance to grow older with the best care possible. The office atmosphere is welcoming and the decor is calming...both for animals and their humans.I miss Princess Bailey with a terrible ache in my heart. But I know she received the BEST care she could have ever gotten with Dr. Steve and Dr. Lex.I was lucky to have them both treat Bailey.Thank you EHV for being there to help our furry companions live a wonderful life...for as long as they possibly can. I went to this vet for a second opinion on my dog's stomach issues. She's been vomiting blood off and on for about six months. Karen was amazing. My dog is incredibly timid and afraid of people, and Karen sat down with us on the couch and fed my dog little bits of liver treats. The fact that my dog even took treats from her was shocking! She performed some acupuncture on her as well and my dog actually relaxed and laid down. At a vet clinic! Very shocking, too.Karen prescribed my dog a chinese herb for stomach ulcers and I saw very good results over the few months she's been on them. She is still having issues and has vomited a couple more times in the last month, but she's doing better than before.I only took off the one star because it is quite expensive... They do do more for your pet than any other vet would do (acupuncture, sitting and talking with you for an hour and really listening, etc.) so I think it's worth it, but I don't think I would make it my "normal" vet, because of the price. I will definitely take my dog here for specific problems that need better help though! Read Less

Was referred to Edmonton holistic when my oldest cat got sick after her companion of 18 years passed away a few days earlier.  Their comfort and care during the last 7 weeks of her life is something I've eternally grateful for. After the many weeks of alternative pet care including herbal formulas as well as traditional methods and the use of acupuncture, my best friend of 19 years was put down.  She simply did not want to be a lone cat of the house any longer.the last moments were quite well handled.  We were led into a room that had been lovingly prepared, lit with a candle and aromatherapy.  We were allowed to settle in and then have as much time as we wanted after the end of life procedure. We were not rushed and I felt like I could spend as much time as I wanted after she was gone.  I really appreciated that.I realize I've said nearly nothing about their actual care, but just how we experienced the last moment but if I can relay to you their caring and understanding, then I hope I've done that.I never really knew there were holistic animal care options with my first cat, and I'll do whatever I can share this business and these people with whomever i can. I love the Holistic Vet Clinic. The staff is so friendly and Dr. Marshall is great. My cats love going to the vet. The ladies just love them and treat them as if they were their own. They use accupunture to determine what is going in with my cats and I have to say my big cat loves accupuncture- he turns to pudding in your hands. The herbal medications are really reasonably priced. The initial visit cost is a little steep, but worth it. I am happy to know what is going on with my cats instead of putting them on medications for no reason (that's what my old vet did). I also have to say that I think that it is really kind of them to call a month or two after my appointment to see how the cats are doing. I went to this vet clinic because my friend recommended it after her cat went (she got a second opinion because her vet wanted to put the cat down, the holistic vet found out she had heart worms, gave her meds and here she is 6 years later a happy and healthy cat). I have recommended this place to all my friends with animals. Love this place! It's so relaxing for my cats and seems like a fun treat for them to go. Read Less

Wonderful experience. I have a senior dog (15 year old Jack Russel) who was having trouble weight bearing on one of her legs. We tried several options with our normal vet that didn't work. After one treatment of chiropractic and acupuncture at the holistic vet, she was walking just fine. Since then, we have been back a few times for follow-up and she had more energy and confidence each time. Thanks to them I know we'll have many more years with our little old lady. AMAZING staff! They help my poor cancer riddled dog when everyone wrote him off! He lived a great quality of life for another 7 months. When we helped him cross the rainbow bridge they were amazing and made everything very comfortable for him...they really care about the animals! I just might go there myself! We even received flowers and a hand written condolence card! Again I could be happier with their service and support in helping our dog. The price was 1/3 of what we are used to paying and don't charge for ridiculous visits you don't need.Read Less

This is my regular vet. It is a little more expensive and it took a bit to get used to the difference in price. I do believe it is worth it. My pets usually get some accupuncture and lots of liver treats. They are not one for pushing titres and rabies every year which I don't think is necessary. They will often prescribe herbal remedies which are covered by my pet insurance, so you know it is a proven alternative. Most have worked as expected. I plan to continue using them as my primary care place. Read Less

Read Less
