Dr. Havinga has been wonderful with my dog. My dog is incredibly anxious and will often stay anxious for a while after going to the clinic. We end up having to put her in a thunder shirt after a vet appointment because she gets so nervous she’ll go off her food for a few days. After our most recent visit, my dog was incredibly calm on the way home, and proceeded to eat immediately after getting home. Everything that the other reviewers say is true - this clinic goes above and beyond in caring for your companion animal. I've encountered some pretty shabby vets in my time and the difference is palpable when you walk in here. The clinic itself is clean and pleasant, and Dr. Heather Lan immediately bonded with our dog when she entered the room. She was so kind to him and put him at ease. He had to have dental surgery and Heather clearly explained what would happen, as well as the costs involved. At no point did I feel like she was trying to make as much money as possible, as is the case with almost every other vet we've seen. In fact, she tried to help us cut costs while ensuring our dog received the best possible treatment. We've been twice now for four tooth extractions (poor doggy - beware the hard treats!) and the service and professionalism, as well as the bedside manner, were beyond exemplary! Read Less

Dr. Martin Schiebel has performed dental work on all 3 dogs- extractions of permanent teeth, repairs, sealants etc. One dog recently broke her tooth on a bully stick. Martin came in on his day off to extract the tooth, repair another tooth and remove a mass on her eyelid. I cannot say enough good things about this office. Staff are very friendly and caring. They won't do unnecessary procedures and are upfront about pricing (aiming to come in under quotes if possible). I have gone to other vets. They may charge less for the initial visit but they will charge more for unnecessary procedures. As Martin has been a vet for 30+ years, he knows his stuff and has seen a lot. I do not like the way they didn't monitor my poor cat's thyroid levels (RIP). They followed up on his weight constantly but hardly checked on his thyroid levels. That being said they were not on the ball and his thyroid levels dropped so much he developed further problems and passed away. They are always training and I have received the wrong medications numerous times in the past. There were so many mistakes being made I can't believe they are still in business. Read Less

I am so thankful for the team at this clinic. They made a stressful time a lot easier and my dog got wonderful care here. The follow up care was excellent. Her teeth are healing well. Thank you so much! I gave them four instead of five, because their was some confusion regarding a few things. I got two different sets of pre op instructions and they got her appointment time mixed up and I ended up being there an hour early with a hungry and thirsty dog. The entire team at mayfield vet, and Dr. Lam especially, were so good to my puppy, Church. Even when he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus they helped give me hope and always gave Church cuddles and treats making him feel safe/excited to go to the vet. When I had to let church go earlier this week due to his brain condition the entire staff and my hero Dr. Lam all cried and I knew they loved him like their own. Nothing can compare to the compassion and love I experienced at this vet hospital - no one could ever find a better place to trust with their fur baby. I am eternally grateful. Read Less

My Family has been using this vet office for well over a decade. When I moved out on my own, I started bringing my own little babies to see these guys and I have ALWAYS had a great experience. A few days ago my kitty started vomiting and acting lethargic. I brought her in and they suggested doing blood work and an x-ray. Being short on cash I asked if we could do the blood test first and if that didn't provide an answer, then do the x-ray after if we needed to. Well when she was taken back for the blood work, the vet did an x-ray on her as well just to be sure and told me she wasn't going to charge me for it. She saved me $150.00 and was able to tell me that she needed to be admitted to the emergency vet for surgery to remove a foreign object in her intestines. She called the vet and had everything arranged and ready for me to go the moment I walked in the door. The surgery cost me $3200 and it hit me really hard financially, but her small gift of saving me that $150 was so helpful and I am so grateful for it. This is the best vet in Edmonton, and after having tried four other vets in the city closer to my home, I can say they are the best with huge confidence. We are long time clients of Mayfield, going back to their previous location and several previous pets. Martin has always been excellent with appointments and dealing with some of the challenging health issues we have had with some of our cats. Annabel and Heather are also excellent vets that have looked after many of our previous and current cats. The vet techs and counter staff know our pets very well and are always helpful and friendly. We chose Mayfield because they were a clinic who worked with the spca to provide exit exams as part of the adoption package. I don't remember the name of the vet who completed our exam, but I remember her excitement for us. From the very first visit, Red loved her vet's. everyone always fussed and fed her. She would cry from excitement as we pulled into the driveway, like we were taking her to one of her favourite parks. She would happily toddle into the back room without looking back. We never knew Red's age or story but we treasured her very much. It was exceptionally hard to let her go this summer. Dr. Annabelle Sydie-Smith and Dr. Susan Nguyen, not only provided exceptional health care, but also the deepest compassion to the three of us. Red was able to pass peacefully in our home, surrounded by love, wagging her tail at her vet and vet tech, who were gracious and selfless to travel out to Spruce Grove. I love the people at Mayfield Vet Hospital! More importantly my dog Puppers loves the people there. He runs and pulls on his leash to get in there! He is 6 now and has been going to visit the Docs at Mayfield since he was a little 1kg baby. They have always been really good with him. They keep pet parents well informed and offer great solutions for any issues that may come up. They are aware of the high cost of some things and are always ready with more than one solution. Initially I had taken my kitty to this clinic because i worked nearby... many years and multiple moves later, despite it being a long commute, we still come back. After many disappointing attempts at finding a vet for my Coco, I happened upon Mayfield Veterinary Clinic and Dr. Lee. Her obvious love of animals is apparent from the first moment she interacts with you and your pet.  She takes the time to get to know them, and you during her initial consultation and remembers the little details in subsequent visits. I truly feel she's an ally in monitoring my dog's health. Dr. Lee didn't give up in finding a treatment for Coco, when I believe other vets would've recommended expensive procedures and tests instead. We've brought our dogs to Mayfield Veterinary Hospital for as long as I can remember. Dr Sydie-Smith is an excellent care-giver and Vet. She has always seemed engaged during our visits and genuinely concerned. Dr Sydie never recommends any unnecessary tests or meds and is always more than happy to provide great advice and suggestions. I always feel that I have the complete attention of Dr. Sydie and that she offers information and advice taking into consideration how realistic her suggestions are for me, personally. She understands my dog's personality and is able to work effectively with him. I find her warm and genuine and always a pleasure to see. Lucky is always taken directly into an examination room. I love these guys. I swear Dr. Heather Lam is a cat whisperer.Since I've been a pet owner for less than four years, I don't have a lot to compare them to. But I can tell you I'm happy with them and when my cat, Freya came home with a collapsed lung, they saved her life.When our other cat, Sully passed away I was devastated. It was my very first pet loss, and they were understanding and walked me through the processing of his remains. It did my heart good when I received a card from them expressing their  condolences. Inside was a copy of the Rainbow Bridge poem, and a little handmade card with Sully's paw print on it. It was a nice touch that still brings me to tears.I know Sully LOVED Dr. Lam. She has a way with furchildren. She just seems to put them at ease and she knows their personality quirks. Again, when Sully passed, she helped ease my grief. I brought my dog here to have some extensive dental work done. The staff there are very sweet, and gentle and incredibly helpful. I had a follow up appointment, and had traveled an hour in a snow storm only to find upon arrival that my appointment was actually scheduled for the following day. They squeezed me in very quickly despite my error, and were very understanding and non judgmental about it.
