After years of begging and pleading, I am finally the proud owner of a puppy. She may have plucked every decorative flower from my favorite pair of sandals this morning, but I still love her (although I wept for my dear sandals). And I probably could have prepared a little better for her.I did a lot of research about owning a puppy and all of the things you have to do, and knew that I should be picking out a vet well before I brought her home so that I could make sure she was A-OK when I did get her. But, things didn't really go as expected, since I never though that my boyfriend would actually say yes, or that we'd come home with a puppy on a Sunday afternoon. On Monday morning after next to no sleep from the crying and whimpering downstairs, I started calling around to a vet to see when I could get her in to make sure she was in good health. I was able to make an appointment quickly and without hassle, and the receptionist even let me know right away which days I could book the last appointment in the day (as I have to drive back to the Fort from the city during rush hour). She was extremely understanding, and very accommodating. When we did bring Penny into the vet, I was pleasantly surprised. It had been awhile since I'd been in a vet's office, and the one we used to take my family dog to was pretty dreary and definitely full of dander. Instead, we entered the well-lit and brightly colored office and were greeted by a smiling receptionist who weighed our jumpy pup right off the bat while we waited. The vet came out within 3 minutes of us being there, was very friendly and informative, and gave her the pill and shot without her even noticing that something unusual was going on. We were out of the office within 5 minutes, and payment ended up being cheaper than we had budgeted for because her health checkup is included free of charge whenever she has to come in for shots or pills. Awesome! As we were leaving, they made sure to book us in exactly 4 weeks afterwards to ensure the booster will be on time (and not at the behest of their scheduling) and can combine for a checkup on her teeth that are slowly coming in. And never again will I leave anything I love in a place that she will be able to reach and retrieve it from... which will only get more difficult once she reaches her full size (probably 3 times the size she is now).
