I brought my pet in for euthanasia.  Unfortunately, it was a difficult IV to attach as my kitty was agitated, and I wanted to hold him while the IV was being inserted.  He had cancer.  After successful insertion of the IV, the tech left me in the room with my kitty for approximately 5 minutes, it seemed like forever.  During this time, I heard loud laughter on the opposite side of the wall in the tech station.  This continued until the doctor came in with the necessary paperwork.  The doctor was extremely compassionate and kind to me and my little cat, and everything proceeded from that point on in a respectful manner.  I must say though, that I have sadness when I think of the whole experience and regret that I didn't just take my kitty and leave during the loud laughter episode.  I noticed too that when I went out afterwards to pay the bill, the "please be quiet, somebody's pet is crossing the bridge" candle, was not even lit.  :( Read Less

If I could give a 0 star rating I would. They are a complete rip off. They over charge you for all kinds of tests with no results at all. My dog is still sick and they don't care at all. They charged me close to 500 dollars and threw a bunch of medications at my dog with nothing working. They said to come back in for weekly weigh ins and I did last Friday. The one tech there said oh he never lost anything it's like he took a pee. When he acctually is lose weight. They also cut his nails and he pooped. I don't what they did to him cause they took in the back to do it. He has never done that. They don't treat animals or people fairly at all. I tried to speak with the managed this morning and she was just extremely rude to me. She told me to bring him back in for another visit which could bring another amount of money. Not happy at all. They responded back to my review saying they treated my dog and I with respect which was not true at all. They also said if I have any concerns to call them well I did call today and they said the manager was gone this week and there's nothing they can so for me at this time. My dog is still doing well at all. Worst service ever. Read Less

Losing my dog Misty was one of the most emotional things I have gone through in a long time. I had never been to the Family Pet Hospital before, but the staff were so kind and compassionate to my girl. They let us take as much time as we needed to say good bye to Misty. I truly appreciate the staff there, as they were very professional and caring during such a difficult time. I'm sorry I never got to thank the staff properly as I was an emotional wreck the whole time, but I am grateful we brought my girl there. Read Less

It was the first time I had dealt with this vet. We had called the vet we have been taking Our Tito to but there was no answer even on their emergency number. So we called Family Pet Hospital as they were the closest to where we were at the time. Our dog Tito collapsed and became unresponsive. It was late in the evening about 7. They answered told us to bring him right over and that they would be at the door waiting. They started cpr on Tito and carried on and tried all they could to revive him but to no avail. They showed great compassion for myself and my boys through out the whole ordeal. It was one of the hardest days we loved Tito like he was one of our children. He was a well loved and spoiled pitbull mastiff cross. At 15 months he was 130 lbs. From the moment we got there They were professional and compassionate. Thank you Family Pet Hospital for doing all you could for Tito. And showing great compassion. Soon as we pulled up they started working on him to try and get him back. After 20 or so minutes it was evident Tito had moved on. I've been to other vets where the first thing they worry about is whether you can pay or not. No problem with that with us either way. I would have given up everything if it meant Tito was to be saved. No dollar amount would have been too much. Their main concern was to help Tito. Again thank you so much Family Pet Hospital. I went to this vet clinic on Thursday around 4pm with my 5lb chihuahua who had fallen down stairs and broken her leg. The first thing they did was they tried to approve me for financing, which took forever and it didn't work so I told them I would just pay on credit card and that I wanted them to just examine her already. So They did an exam and the vet took her for X-rays, then 45 min later they come in and say they need to process the payment before they will even take the X-rays. So where did you take my dog then? So we pay for X-rays and exam, and then they come back and say there is nobody even available to fix my dogs leg until Saturday and that I should go somewhere else like Calgary. They refunded the X-rays because they still hadn't even taken them and we had to pay $120 for the exam, and I had to demand they give my dog pain meds, I was there for 4 hours they didn't offer her pain meds once!!! Gave her a quick shot, charged me an extra $30 for that and sent me out the door just before 8pm. I drove 2.5 hours to north calgary n got to McKnight emergency clinic for 11pm, by 12pm we had X-rays, more pain meds, and the final decision made up. Novas leg was so badly broken it needed to be amputated. They amputated her leg first thing the next morning, and she's now home, hoping around on three legs, and very high on pain meds. I am absolutely appalled by the behaviour of this clinic, especially the vet himself, and I will never trust them with my animals again, they only care about the money. The only positive thing I have to say is about the one blonde lady at the front desk, she stayed well past her shift and did more than necessary to help me through my anxiety attack and panic, so a big thank you to her. I am new to online reviews, but thought this might be a good way to express my appreciation and gratitude for service that exceeded my high expectations - on two separate occasions from two different Family Per Hospital vets. I have had an exceptional experience with both Dr. Kate and Dr. Bastorous, and would highly recommend either of them to anybody seeking vetrinarian support!Dr. Kate's expertise likely saved our family working pet, Mr. Angry Cat. I went in fully prepared to have to put him down to save him from his pain and a life long disability. Dr. Kate literally saved him and provided service that lead to his full revovery - at a fraction of the cost I anticipated.Last night I made an emergency trip to Family Pet with a tiny kitten (one of six) a feral cat had gifted to our acreage.  I questioned my judgement for bringing in a stray that I wasn't sure could be saved and wasn't prepared to invest a lot of money in. Dr. Bastorous invested his talents in improving the kitten's immediate condition. He then had a compassionate and informative conversation with me outlining options not only for the kitten, but for his siblings and wild mother as well. I left with hope for the little kitten and a plan of action to take care of the rest of his furry family. The peace of mind provided by this visit was priceless.Thank you Dr. Kate and Dr. Bastorous, I look forward to working with you again in the future! Read Less

I can't thank the staff at the Family Pet Hospital enough, in particular Dr Kate and trusty assistant Mindy!! I brought my cat in for what I thought was a simple dental however it turned out much more serious. Throughout his recovery there have been bumps in the road and a return to the clinic, we are not out of the woods yet but I know that the staff of the clinic will be there no matter what. Dr Kate and her staff went far above and beyond the regular call of duty to support our 4 legged friend and his family in the most compassionate and loving way. They accommodated visits, provided Kleenex and took the time to explain all of the decisions made and answer the endless stream of questions. It is evident that Dr Kate loves her patients and cares deeply for their well being, I would highly recommend this amazing Vet and the staff of FPH!! Many, many thanks!!Read Less

My Yorkie was bit by another dog while camping just over a week ago. It got infected so my husband and I left our trip early and took him in. The vet found one bite wound on the side of his neck, cleaned it, and prescribed antibiotics. That wound is doing great now. However, a few days later, there was immense swelling underneath his neck. My dog was not eating due to the swelling right by his throat. I took off work and brought him in again. The vet looked at it, said it was a lot of swelling but was probably just scar tissue, nothing to worry too much about. He then gets me a quote for $400 to run tests because he thinks my dog may have liver problems since he's not eating and his ears appear to be yellow. I refused to have the tests done as I believe he wasn't eating because of the pain. Obviously. The next morning, I took a good look at it myself and noticed a second bite wound. I immediately made another appointment and brought him in for the 3rd time which they did not charge for. He then tells me that he understood now why my dog wasn't eating, because of the wound under his neck. But still wanted to run the tests. I refused once again. He cleaned it up and gave different antibiotics which I had to pay for. Tells me that if its not better within 4 days the scar tissue will have to be surgicaly removed. There was no change in that time period. So we brought our dog to another vet (trusted with great reviews from people we know) and were told that there was no need for surgery, it would heal within a month, and he needed to be off the antibiotics. She also flushed the wound, and checked his ears and gums for yellowing. Said he didn't have liver problems. He is active, energetic, and even eating by himself now. Yes his neck is still swollen but it doesn't seem to be effecting him at all. Not only did the previous vet miss an obvious bite wound twice, I did not feel that he handled my dog well. Plus he didn't even apologize. He didn't smile, didn't cuddle my dog, or even talk to him. And also very overpriced. We will definitely not be bringing our dog here again. Saved ourselves a couple grand just by taking our dog somewhere else where he was treated with love, and also prevented putting him through a lot of unnecessary treatment.Read Less

Fantastic service, front desk staff pleasant on the phone and in person. Nurses obviously love animals, and treat them kindly and affectionately. No pushing things you don't need, I went in once thinking my dog needed shots, and after weighing him and taking his vitals, they informed me he was up to date, no charge for the time we were there. Got shots yesterday, the vet spent lots of time with us, explained pricing and options, and did an all-around check up too. Today, a vet tech called to check on my dog, asked about his health and behaviour, knew what to ask, and added the information to my dog's file. Also, they're open evenings for appointments or walk-in, and can be called 24 hours for emergency. The rabies tag they gave me included a website to register with, if anyone should find my dog. I wish my doctors were as good as those at this clinic. Read Less

Our visit to this office was wonderful. Everyone was so kind and both my cat Felix and I felt relaxed. I knew Felix would be in good hands.

Read Less
