Weir Veterinary Services Ltd is an absolute awesome place to take your pets too. I have been there many times over the years with our pets and have always been so impressed with their compassion and caring. Last week we had to say goodbye to our Bernese Mountain Dog, Tucker and Dr. Kent Weir was absolutely phenomenal - he was kind, caring, compassionate and so loving to Tucker (and me) - As we said goodbye to a member of our family. Dr. Weir is the most kindhearted and honest doctor I have come across. I had a senior dog with mast cell tumors when I was attending Lakeland college. I had them removed back home and a set of sutures came out when I was in Vermilion. I had to go in on emergency to get her sutures replaced. Dr. Weir was extremely kind and helpful. I continued to go to Weir Vet services for followup care and Dr. Weir was very straightforward in his explanations to me so I knew what to expect and could make informed decisions for my girl who is still doing well! Weir Vet has always been amazing with my tribe of animals and shows such care and compassion. Today was no exception when we had to put our 19yr old cat down :( Dr Kim Christie showed my daughter and I so much understanding and made the whole process so loving and peaceful. Of course we were very emotional and she put us at ease and let my daughter be there for Oliver, holding him and making sure he wasn't scared. She showed such love and compassion for Oliver as well. Yes I have been bring my pets to Weir Veterinary for almost 12 years. I have been happy with them. I am not happy right now knowing I spent hundreds of dollars Micro Chipping my pets to find out it does not work when a pet is stolen. Why because the vets do not check for the chips when someone brings in the pet they have. I have a customer that bought a dog from me that I had chipped. The dog was stolen and yes we know by who and yet the vet clinics in Calgary say they do not check even on new pets to someone unless they are dropped off as found or rescued. The clinics across Alberta and Canada need to start checking as so many pets get stolen. Why pay for something that does not help us get our babies back. Yes I did ask Weir if they check "No they don't unless it is dropped off or a rescue" So why sell something to someone that you don't check for. here is a article I found which tells me many people feel the same way. Feeling ripped off in many ways including my bank account. Here is a post I am now sharing on facebook: BUYER BEWARE!!! If you have your pet micro chipped the only time they will be scanned is if they are turned in to a vet clinic or a rescue. They will not help locate a stolen pet. I have always had great service here, the vets really care about my three cats. They have waived small fees for me (a vet exam for a cat from the Bonnyville SPCA, a quick check up, etc). I couldn't ask for more. My little one, Clark, was just neutered and micrchipped. He was bleeding a bit the next day so I rushed him in, being the overprotective mom I am. The vet checked him out, didn't see any obvious problems but they said they would keep him overnight for free. Clark didn't show any further issues so I took him home. Just today I recieved a call from one of the lovely ladies who looked after Clark just to check in and see how he was doing. It was very sweet and appreciated. I am extremely pleased with the service we have received there over the last 6 weeks in and out of the office with appointments and concerns with poor Tokyo all the trial and error trying to figure out her poor foot. One year ago we took Bentley to the vet because he just wasn't himself and not doing well. We were told by Dr. Durovik either he has kidney failure, which there is no cure for or he has Addison's Disease, which is very easily treatable. He had to spend the weekend at the vet and after some treatment for Addison's and a test we found out that he was going to be ok! They called us both days on the weekend to provide an update. We have had many trips to the vet for bloodwork since to make sure his levels are in check and twice daily medication. But I'm happy to say Bentley is doing great and will be here for a long time!
