There is NO better, kinder, responsible, competent, empathetic, compassionate/caring, intelligent.... vet on the planet I'm sure... than Dr Pat Higgens and now our secondary vet Dr Grant. As you might be able to guess, I respect these men so much and trust them absolutely to care for my 6 (now 4 furballs). I lost 2 this year from old age but Dr Pat and Dr Grant as well as the staff were excellent in helping us through old age issue with them both. Both doctors have done surgeries on 4 of them, plus their teeth and I couldn't have asked for a better job/care. They have NEVER over charged me or have I ever felt he's there just to make money, in fact many times he's made alternative (less expensive) suggestions, or helped us come up with other ideas. Dr Grant was beyond kind and helpful walking us through caring for a homeless stray who had a surprise litter of sick kittens that took us months to nurse to health. He donated much of his time and phone calls until they were ALL healthy, spayed and adopted. They ALL, EVEN MOMMA CAT, HAVE WONDERFUL FOREVER HOMES!! His staff is also EXCELLENT, when he is on holiday I've never felt nervous for anyone else to see them and I am always a wreck. They are awesome with everything from Chinchilla's to Chihuahuas! I took my cat in after he fell majorly ill! They said that they could not find anything wrong with him. A week later I took him to another vet who diagnosed him with a very large tumor the size of a baseball and had to be put to rest! He was in major pain! How could they miss this! I am pretty sure that he wasn't even taken out of his carrier! I also felt it was strange that they examined him without me in the room .They refused to refund the 300.00 that they charged us for doing nothing!I was beyond disgusted with the way this entire situation was handled and would never recommend them to anyone! Couldn't be happier with how AMAZING the staff was here! Abby went in with major complications and they went more than above and beyond to provide her great care and keep us updated every step of the way. They went out of their way to make sure she was taken care of, even outside of office hours. Since she has been better, we get calls asking how she is doing and they have made sure that we know that they are ALWAYS there for questions! We went to Deer Park Pet Hospital with our dog, having an emergency. As the owner, I was in major distress. Dr. Higgins radiates knowledge, kindness, experience and many other positive things, that immediately put me at ease. He explained the problems in great detail and ensured I understood, after conducting a thorough examination of my dog. He discussed treatment options (very advanced technology) and medication, etc. At no time did I fee pressure to pursue any specific path of treatment. The visit was not rushed at all even though we just showed up without appointment! I have never felt that comfortable at any clinic before, for people or animals! The environment is clean and comfortable. The cost was very reasonable. We pursued Laser treatment for our dog and he is, although an older dog, completely pain-free again after only 3 very affordable treatments! I STRONGLY recommend this Pet Hospital! The two doctors I dealt with for my little fur baby were amazing up until the end. Had one incident with one of the front end staff where I found her very rude to me because I was unaware of a cost I had to pay. But I still would recommend anyone to this vet office! Read Less

My family has been bringing our pets to Deer Park since I was a child, so close to 20 years, and I don't think I've ever had a negative thing to say about the clinic. All the staff are very friendly, caring and supportive. My dog usually sees Dr. Wright, but I trust and am happy to see any of the Doctors there. I brought my 18 year old cat in to be put down due to him not doing well anymore.  The vet was very rude to me. Implied that because i had him fixed 16 years earliear no way he was 18. Thing is i wasn't able to afford it till he was older.   And that i only brought him due to his issues getting to the litter box as he has gotten older.  He is a member of our family and i was told until he loses weight and cant jump up on furniture because he is in to much pain  they wouldn't even think about putting him down and sent me home with behavioural issues in cats papers.  Like he had suddenly become a jerk and was pooping outside the box on purpose when in reality he couldn't make it anymore.  I have 4 litter boxes that i clean weekly.  But was told to put more boxes in my home.  Needless to say i cried my face off for no reason to be told i was not a good pet owner when i was looking out for my beloved cats quality of life.  Which they seemed to not care about.  I do not recommend this vet anymore even though i was a loyal customer for many years. Anyone that knows me; knows how much Pepper means to me. So; it is no surprise I was worried how she would do; when I took her in to be Spayed. I thought maybe they would laugh at me for sending her teddy bear with her; but they were great about it and my concerns. Staff were helpful and very nice. This is by far the best pet hospital around ! Dr. Higgins helped my boyfriend and I's gecko and did an incredible job helping him. He called almost every day keeping us updated and kept the prices reasonable. Dr Higgins is the vet to go to for sure! First impressions mean everything. We moved to red deer a year ago and this is the fourth clinic I've been to. I'm done looking! The online reviews were what initially led me to check the Deer Park clinic out and I'm glad I did. They were very accommodating on the phone. The reception was polite and prompt, the vet was warm and friendly (and reminded me of my "home vet" back east), the place was clean and the price was under what I was expecting for the visit I had to make. My cat will definitely be back and I have big hopes for my boxer to have a pleasant experience as well (he's a bit more fussy lol). Deer park pet hospital is amazing ! They helped my 10 week old Doberman who went from happy healthy puppy to almost not making it home. I called probably 5 times a day they were always patient and helpful. Dr. Grant who was my vet called me any time my puppies condition was updated they were understanding that I'm a student and kept costs as low as they could! The veterinarian was so sweet and gentil with my cat, you could really tell he cared about both me and my cat! I've always taken my pets to Deer Park. The staff there are fantastic, and I really like all of the veterinarians. As a regular client, I'm used to getting the best quality of care for my pets, but today they really exceeded my expectations. I went in for a quick laser treatment on a hot spot, and mentioned my dog had been losing weight. We discovered the weight loss was pretty substantial and concerning. They got me in right away with Dr. Grant and did x-rays, blood tests and an ultrasound all today. We've been living in Red Deer for about a year now, but we hadn't found a vet....until Tuesday night. We have two cats and a dog. Long story, short we had to rush our 13 year old cat, Max to the vet around 9pm...we were just lucky that Dr. Higgins and one of his assistants were doing their nightly checks on the animals...my daughter, Jessica Klyne, and I were literally driving around looking for one that was open....we knocked on the door and, instead of turning us away because they were closed they invited us and our sick cat in. My daughter and I had been preparing ourselves to put poor Max down, as I am newly single and struggling to put my life back together. I had no idea how I was going to pay a vet bill...we didn't really want to lose Max but I couldn't see any other alternative. Dr Higgins examined Max and then told me: 1. Don't worry, we won't be putting him to sleep today 2. That he would work with me to bring our family member home Well, he is the 1st veterinarian that I've met in a very long time that seems to care about his patients and their families more than making a buck...we brought our Max home today and Dr. Higgins was true to his word...so thank you to the Doctor and the Staff at Deer Park Pet Hosiptal...my family can't express how much we appreciate all you've done!,Read Less
