Stony Plain Veterinary Clinic has been our clinic for years and for several animals. Yesterday, they insisted on an examination for my dog, even though she was just there 5 weeks ago, and is/was healthy and no concerns. I went back only for kennel cough and we decided we have to kennel our dog for the first time. They charged me not only for the immunization, but also for a full examination, even though I refused it twice before the vet came in. I let them know they could go to her chart and see she was healthy.
Not even children get a medical examination before a vaccine.
I’m done. I will go somewhere that respects me, my opinion, and my right to refuse services for my animals if I deem them unnecessary.

I would recommend this place to everyone!! They accomadated my cat when I was panicking and had no clue what it was. The vet knew what is what right away and the visit was quick. They also called about a week after to check up on Grimm. I thought that was so kind and out of their way, they showed compassion when other places were more worried about squeezing that extra buck out of us.

Stony Plain Veterinary Clinic has been our pet hospital for many many years. We started with our cat and then continued when we grew our family by two dogs. They have been good with us in numerous situtations from having to have our cat put down to our large dogs liver issues. The location is great for us, the clinic is very clean, and the building is set up well.Dr. Shannon Wawryk and Dr. Jamie Lecky always serve our family very well and previously (before moving to another practice in Leduc) Dr. Mary Tyrner was our go to gal. We have always had great animal care with any vet we have had at this location.The only challenge we have had at this clinic is the frequent turnover of front desk staff and often confused communication between front desk and animal care (especially when contacted by phone). There have been many times we were to receive call backs that didn't come and times we have had to chase up important information. It has gotten better lately, and I'm hoping that it will continue to do so, as for a while it was making us contemplate whether we should change vets.All in all we enjoy this pet clinic very much and hope that it continues to build a great front desk team to compliment the excellent veterinary care. Our dogs also respond very well to the staff which tells me they must be doing things pretty well behind the scenes too!

I have been going to this vet for over 10 years now. They are skilled, reasonably priced and some of the most caring people around. I have never been unhappy with the treatment they have provided. Their sheer love of animals shows. I would recommend this vet practice to anyone asking. They are worth the drive from Edmonton. Thank you Dr Wawryk and Associates for your amazing care.

If you want your animals treated with care and compassion...DO NOT take them to the stony plain vet clinic. I tried for a week straight to get a hold of waryk who wouldn't return phone calls or address my very serious concerns with her clinic. She only returned my call at 7:30 on a Friday night as she was walking out the door, which she made mention of. She treated both our animals like a paycheck and runs the clinic like a gong show. Front end staff can't seem to get the simplest tasks right including handing out the incorrect remains of our deceased cat. It took three trips to get the correct ones! Medication was also double ordered when it was not requested and never arrived on time! After finally making another trip in to talk to the owner of the clinic I was informed that all those errors were some how our fault and there was nothing they could do for us. Even though initially on my third trip in, because she was too much of a coward to speak directly to me, she had sent out another tech that desperately wanted to know what they could do to make it better. During the final visit I quoted the mission statement which includes lies about being caring, compassionate, and efficient. As well as mentions priding itself on customers giving referrals but waryck couldn't have cared less. She turned the loss of our family member in a profit and did not blink an eye at her clinics multiple errors. This clinic is an abomination to the pet industry. I hope this saves other pet owners the mistake of going here.

Had a great experience taking my dog in for his shots. Front desk staff were warm and friendly. The Vet was incredible and you can tell how much she cares for the animals. She took her time and was not rushed whatsoever. She really made an effort to get to know my dog and I knew he was in good hands. Prices were about 40% less than other local options. Overall, nothing could have made the experience any better.

Took my dog in for his shots today. I had read other reviews on here, but my dog and I had a great experience. The front staff were very welcoming and friendly with me and my small dog. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The Vet was incredible and you can tell she really cares about the animals. It was the first time I had taken my rescue dog for his booster shots, and the vet gave them so efficiently, my dog didn't even notice. She is wonderful with the animals and I'll now be making this my go-to clinic.

Terrible service, I had to wait almost half an hour in reception because they screwed up my appointment time (even though I had just booked the day before and the receptionist suggested the time). Front staff wouldn't take responsibility for their error. My cat was freaking out the whole time while they had other cats running around the clinic stressing mine out further, resulted in my cat peeing in her carrier. The vet was decent but I was already very frustrated by time we got into the examination room. Will not come back here again. The vets may be good but if your front desk staff are unfriendly and incompetent it doesn't help much.

I've been taking my dog to SPVC since I moved to the area is 2012, for regular check ups, shots etc. Never had a problem with them until I actually needed them. My poor sweet, old boy was diagnosed with cancer and now requires substantially more care and medication. I left message after message trying to get the vet to call me back because I was concerned about him, on a Friday morning. She told me to 'call any time'. She didn't bother to return the call, not only that day, but any day after. It's been 5 days now. Still haven't heard a word. The lack of compassion and care is outrageous. I called again today to renew his prescription. That department didn't bother to return the call either even though I specifically asked to speak with them as I was unsure exactly what medication I should be giving him. I can't even put into words how disgusted I am with how blatantly they do not care about their patients. We will never take our animals there again.

I have been bringing my beagles to this clinic from Edmonton since 2010. I absolutely trust Dr Wawryk with their care. I have adopted a rescue beagle that came with congested heart failure. These beagles mean everything to me and I would never trust their lives to anyone I didn't not believe in. I can be a anxious and persistent beagle mom at times and I appreciate the time that is taken to re assure me. I work in healthcare so having to wait to have good care is never an issue. I am getting to know the neighborhood around the clinic well.

The vet stressed my cat out by trying repeatedly to express her bladder after an injury when she couldn't do it instead of just admitting she couldn't do it. She tried to say it was my cat's fault rather than admitting her incompetence. However, every other vet (at different clinics) who's seen the cat since has had no problem doing it. Also, seeing a receptionist mop up dog poop with the nastiest mop did not make me feel good about the cleanliness of the place.

I asked one time what to do when my pup goes into heat? The Receptionist got a vet tech to talk to me. The Vet tech didn't even know. She told me dog training lol

Called to get a quote for the kennel cough vaccine and was quoted, by the receptionist, for $23. I have two dogs, so I'm expecting to end up with a bill around $50.
I normally go to Spruce Grove Vet, who quoted me $74 for the kennel cough vaccine (for each dog) - so I decided it might be worth switching to Stony.
Went in. Filled out all of the paper work to switch vets, and gave any relevant info. My dogs were then both vaccinated. Got to the front desk to pay and was given a $120+ bill.
That is almost TRIPLE what I was quoted. I told the woman at the front desk who replied, "oh, the 23 dollar shot is DHPP, sorry.."
While it is still cheaper than what I was quoted by my original vet, I told her I wouldn't be switching to them after all. Don't tell me one thing and then charge me something completely different. She was hardly apologetic. Obviously your receptionists have no knowledge of the difference between DHPP and Bordetella.
Paid the $120 but I certainly won't be returning.
My advice? Get them to confirm the price at the desk before you receive any services from them. Perhaps it would be better if you pay beforehand so that they can't stick you with any additional charges.

We have 2 dogs, one being a puppy! This was my second visit to the Clinic. The first one was ok, friendly staff but I did feel a bit rushed as the vet was in and out of the room a lot due to other issues- stuff happens I get it. Well this visit, was even better! We had Dr Jamie and she is WONDERFUL! She took the time to listen to my questions and showed genuine concern for my pets! She very was knowledgeable and friendly! I will ONLY ever bring my babies to her! Love the friendly staff as well! ( Victoria! )

This is literally the worst vet I've ever been to.Receptionists are blatantly RUDE. You'll spend lots of time waiting on the phone, in the waiting room, and in office. Our infant pet was sick before Christmas and we couldn't get in until the new year. The condition worsened ofcourse. The Vet came in for a split second, took our babe for tests and sent her assistant back with diagnosis and a bill for 3 medications. We asked to speak with the vet to ask questions about diagnosis and medications and the assistant said, "Sorry she's already with her next appointment". We payed for our appointment the least they can do is answer a few damn questions!!!! Unprofessional. The medications aren't working so we called for advise and were totally snubbed. Would rather take our fur baby into the city to see someone competent. Total BS right from the beginning. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. (You've been warned)

The reason for 2 stars is strictly for the fact my pet returned home safe and sound. Unsure how veterinary clincs work regarding front desk but I assume like medical offices the doctor is who pays the front staff. Unfortunately the girls at the front desk lack bed side manners and intelligence to do their job properly. It was disappointing as we were hoping for the welcoming hospitality as most rual veterinarians are notorious for. There is staff pet board in the front, and the girls in front seemed more amused by he pictures then helping clients. Im sure these girls have the education for the position, I just think the staff would benefit with some courses aimed for customer service. Price wise they are very comparable to city vets not rual vets.

Used to be a good clinic, now I don't waste my time. They are always overbooked, running late, only vet that remains the same is the owner. The front office staff is overworked, you can hardly speak with a vet even when calling. I would not recommend this clinic.. have had many misdiagnoses as well. Thankfully I always follow up with a second opinion at other vets.

Also, they've always been super amazing with my dogs, which is really the most important thing. As far as pricing goes, I'm not sure how standardized it is in Alberta, but this place seems fairly reasonable.

If you want your animals treated with care and compassion...DO NOT take them to the stony plain vet clinic. I tried for a week straight to get a hold of waryk who wouldn't return phone calls or address my very serious concerns with her clinic. She only returned my call at 7:30 on a Friday night as she was walking out the door, which she made mention of. She treated both our animals like a paycheck and runs the clinic like a gong show. Front end staff can't seem to get the simplest tasks right including handing out the incorrect remains of our deceased cat. It took three trips to get the correct ones! Medication was also double ordered when it was not requested and never arrived on time! After finally making another trip in to talk to the owner of the clinic I was informed that all those errors were some how our fault and there was nothing they could do for us. Even though initially on my third trip in, because she was too much of a coward to speak directly to me, she had sent out another tech that desperately wanted to know what they could do to make it better. During the final visit I quoted the mission statement which includes lies about being caring, compassionate, and efficient. As well as mentions priding itself on customers giving referrals but waryck couldn't have cared less. She turned the loss of our family member in a profit and did not blink an eye at her clinics multiple errors. This clinic is an abomination to the pet industry. I hope this saves other pet owners the mistake of going here.

Had a great experience taking my dog in for his shots. Front desk staff were warm and friendly. The Vet was incredible and you can tell how much she cares for the animals. She took her time and was not rushed whatsoever. She really made an effort to get to know my dog and I knew he was in good hands. Prices were about 40% less than other local options. Overall, nothing could have made the experience any better.

Took my dog in for his shots today. I had read other reviews on here, but my dog and I had a great experience. The front staff were very welcoming and friendly with me and my small dog. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The Vet was incredible and you can tell she really cares about the animals. It was the first time I had taken my rescue dog for his booster shots, and the vet gave them so efficiently, my dog didn't even notice. She is wonderful with the animals and I'll now be making this my go-to clinic.

Terrible service, I had to wait almost half an hour in reception because they screwed up my appointment time (even though I had just booked the day before and the receptionist suggested the time). Front staff wouldn't take responsibility for their error. My cat was freaking out the whole time while they had other cats running around the clinic stressing mine out further, resulted in my cat peeing in her carrier. The vet was decent but I was already very frustrated by time we got into the examination room. Will not come back here again. The vets may be good but if your front desk staff are unfriendly and incompetent it doesn't help much.

I've been taking my dog to SPVC since I moved to the area is 2012, for regular check ups, shots etc. Never had a problem with them until I actually needed them. My poor sweet, old boy was diagnosed with cancer and now requires substantially more care and medication. I left message after message trying to get the vet to call me back because I was concerned about him, on a Friday morning. She told me to 'call any time'. She didn't bother to return the call, not only that day, but any day after. It's been 5 days now. Still haven't heard a word. The lack of compassion and care is outrageous. I called again today to renew his prescription. That department didn't bother to return the call either even though I specifically asked to speak with them as I was unsure exactly what medication I should be giving him. I can't even put into words how disgusted I am with how blatantly they do not care about their patients. We will never take our animals there again.

I have been bringing my beagles to this clinic from Edmonton since 2010. I absolutely trust Dr Wawryk with their care. I have adopted a rescue beagle that came with congested heart failure. These beagles mean everything to me and I would never trust their lives to anyone I didn't not believe in. I can be a anxious and persistent beagle mom at times and I appreciate the time that is taken to re assure me. I work in healthcare so having to wait to have good care is never an issue. I am getting to know the neighborhood around the clinic well.

They have been our vet for over 16 years now. They are understanding and attentive to the animals needs. Never had a problem getting an appointment for an ill animal.

The vet stressed my cat out by trying repeatedly to express her bladder after an injury when she couldn't do it instead of just admitting she couldn't do it. She tried to say it was my cat's fault rather than admitting her incompetence. However, every other vet (at different clinics) who's seen the cat since has had no problem doing it. Also, seeing a receptionist mop up dog poop with the nastiest mop did not make me feel good about the cleanliness of the place.

I asked one time what to do when my pup goes into heat? The Receptionist got a vet tech to talk to me. The Vet tech didn't even know. She told me dog training lol
The Lady at petsmart selling dog food gave me more advice then the vet tech did lol.

Called to get a quote for the kennel cough vaccine and was quoted, by the receptionist, for $23. I have two dogs, so I'm expecting to end up with a bill around $50.
I normally go to Spruce Grove Vet, who quoted me $74 for the kennel cough vaccine (for each dog) - so I decided it might be worth switching to Stony.
Went in. Filled out all of the paper work to switch vets, and gave any relevant info. My dogs were then both vaccinated. Got to the front desk to pay and was given a $120+ bill.
That is almost TRIPLE what I was quoted. I told the woman at the front desk who replied, "oh, the 23 dollar shot is DHPP, sorry.."
While it is still cheaper than what I was quoted by my original vet, I told her I wouldn't be switching to them after all. Don't tell me one thing and then charge me something completely different. She was hardly apologetic. Obviously your receptionists have no knowledge of the difference between DHPP and Bordetella.
Paid the $120 but I certainly won't be returning.
My advice? Get them to confirm the price at the desk before you receive any services from them. Perhaps it would be better if you pay beforehand so that they can't stick you with any additional charges.

We have 2 dogs, one being a puppy! This was my second visit to the Clinic. The first one was ok, friendly staff but I did feel a bit rushed as the vet was in and out of the room a lot due to other issues- stuff happens I get it. Well this visit, was even better! We had Dr Jamie and she is WONDERFUL! She took the time to listen to my questions and showed genuine concern for my pets! She very was knowledgeable and friendly! I will ONLY ever bring my babies to her! Love the friendly staff as well! ( Victoria! )

This is literally the worst vet I've ever been to.Receptionists are blatantly RUDE. You'll spend lots of time waiting on the phone, in the waiting room, and in office. Our infant pet was sick before Christmas and we couldn't get in until the new year. The condition worsened ofcourse. The Vet came in for a split second, took our babe for tests and sent her assistant back with diagnosis and a bill for 3 medications. We asked to speak with the vet to ask questions about diagnosis and medications and the assistant said, "Sorry she's already with her next appointment". We payed for our appointment the least they can do is answer a few damn questions!!!! Unprofessional. The medications aren't working so we called for advise and were totally snubbed. Would rather take our fur baby into the city to see someone competent. Total BS right from the beginning. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. (You've been warned)

The reason for 2 stars is strictly for the fact my pet returned home safe and sound. Unsure how veterinary clincs work regarding front desk but I assume like medical offices the doctor is who pays the front staff. Unfortunately the girls at the front desk lack bed side manners and intelligence to do their job properly. It was disappointing as we were hoping for the welcoming hospitality as most rual veterinarians are notorious for. There is staff pet board in the front, and the girls in front seemed more amused by he pictures then helping clients. Im sure these girls have the education for the position, I just think the staff would benefit with some courses aimed for customer service. Price wise they are very comparable to city vets not rual vets.

Used to be a good clinic, now I don't waste my time. They are always overbooked, running late, only vet that remains the same is the owner. The front office staff is overworked, you can hardly speak with a vet even when calling. I would not recommend this clinic.. have had many misdiagnoses as well. Thankfully I always follow up with a second opinion at other vets.

I've only ever been to two Vet clinics in my life, but this one is my favorite. They've got a great facility and their staff are always super friendly. Also, they've always been super amazing with my dogs, which is really the most important thing. As far as pricing goes, I'm not sure how standardized it is in Alberta, but this place seems fairly reasonable.
