I’m a bit torn as I genuinely think the Vet techs are nice people however my first exchange with them had been unlike any other experience I’ve ever had with any veterinarian. The Vet spoke to me as if I didn’t know anything about owning a dog and that I should forget anything I’ve ever heard/learnt/researched and take their words as gospel. I just moved to Agassiz and set up a vet appointment for my 9 1/2 week old puppy. I guess being new in the area and having never had been to their clinic along with it being a brand new puppy they must have assumed I didn’t have any experience with dogs. Just to be clear, I’ve had plenty experience including taking in rescue dogs. Right off the bat the vet says they don’t like the breed of dog I chose which I mean OK Australian shepherds arent for everybody they are very active and intelligent dogs that need a lot of training and supervision but I instantly get a sour taste in my mouth because WHAT VET SAYS THEY DONT LIKE YOUR DOG TO YOUR FACE. The exam went fine, the vet techs seemed super nice and took good care of my dog very friendly and understanding of his nervousness of the cats they have running around and all the new people. I could hear them talking about his cute eyes and they all seem to be very nice to me and my dog however the VET was not so nice at all! As soon as my dog was finished she gave me a couple snide comments and just made generally rude assumptions that I have no idea what I’m doing. Coupled with that, they have decided that because I must know nothing about dogs I should come in for 4 rounds of shots not the standard 3 (and yes I would be paying extra) I asked why and she explain to me that he was too young to have gotten his first shots and that they “need to be redone “just to be clear your dog gets his first round of shots and deworming at eight weeks and he received his at seven weeks and four days which is not a big enough difference to require them to be redone. Usually earlier than six weeks would need to be redone and I have called multiple other vet clinics in the area to confirm that. Of course I don’t argue I’m too shy and just say something like I’ve never had that happen but okay we will see what needs to happen. Then they ask me what kind of food I’m feeding my dog, and I understand that everybody has their own opinion on dog food and I am not here to say anybody’s food is better or worse, I listened to their suggestions and then I told them what I had been feeding. Instantly after I said I was feeding Acana puppy mix and high protein I am berated and told that I am feeding my dog the worst possible food they claim it is grain free (which it isn’t) and that he will get heart disease and that it would be entirely my fault they then give me a pamphlet on what food I should feed that says bigger brands are always better and my locally sourced food is “not tested”. I’ve done my research, I know my priorities for what my dog is eating and I don’t want my dog to be carb loaded by the foods they recommended. I politely said we would agree to disagree and left knowing that I will never come back to this Veterinarian. Hopefully my experience isn’t what you get there, you should always take your animals to where ever you believe your pets will get the best treatment suited for their needs. Read Less
