Called in an emergency on a Sunday as my dog had a stick through his eye. Got the vet on the phone and she tried to shove me off by saying "I'm not the emergency vet" over and over again. I explained we are customers of theirs and that this is the emergency number I was given on the Merecroft fridge magnet when I first took my puppy in. She did end up coming in and looking after my dog and I was very thankful. Two follow up visits later, both within 5 days of his incident, and over $100 for each visit for nothing but a quick look at the eye and a couple eye drops, she decided to refer us to an eye specialist on the mainland. I said ok then went home and started doing my own research. I decided before I make a trip to the mainland I wanted a second opinion. I called and made an appt at Coastland vet. Coastland had called the Merecroft vet to get details on my dogs record before our visit. The Merecroft vet then gave me a call and said they are cancelling my file, cancelling the specialist referral and that they will no longer have anything to deal with us. I was taken aback and explained that it was never my intention to move to a new vet, that all I was looking for was another opinion before seeing the specialist.. she said things don't work that way and that our file is deleted and that's that. I will NEVER trust them for anything in the future and will for sure be passing along my experience to anyone I encounter looking for vet recommendations. I was grateful for her help with the emergency but the true colours are showing that she really only cares about her business and money.. why would anyone want to trust their pet with someone like that!? Both my kitties were fixed here, and I get their flea medicine here and I find it reasonably priced and the staff seems to genuinely care about the animals they see. I brought my mean cat in a while ago for an infected cut above her eye which they took very good care of and it healed nicely. I was prepared to pay for sedation but they managed to treat her without it. Surprising, she is quite vicious lol. Again the price was reasonable and less than I was expecting. They were also very patient with me as i had to call more than once to reschedule because i couldn't catch the cat to bring her in. Read Less

Clients of mine who purchased a toy Maltipoo took their puppy to Merecroft as it had some recurring diarrhea with blood and had vomited and collapsed, to weak to eat or drink. This was obviously stressful for new puppy owners and they went to the clinic already in a panic. When they called me they were very upset as the veterinarian had told them that their puppy was not going to make it and would likely be dead within 24 hrs. The recommendation was to take the puppy to Canada West as it likely had parvovirus or , but would likely not survive the trip. This diagnosis was made with a visual inspection (lethargic - calling it underweight), temperature (was normal) and heart rate (also normal). I spoke with the vet on the phone and explained this was a simple case of hypoglycemia that the puppy was dehydrated and had low-blood sugar. The vet hung up on me. You read that right, they would not listen to the breeder and presented no solutions other than "this dog is sick and going to die" and hung up on me. My clients were in distress and this clinic displayed no compassion or professionalism at all so I had no choice but to have them bring the puppy to my vet in Abbotsford who had a completely different diagnosis. To put everyone at ease we did the parvo test, took about 10 minutes to show negative. We put her on the drip overnight and they fed her a development soft puppy food. We did blood work and gave anti-biotic. The very next day she was back to normal, soft but formed stool - no blood seen since, lots of energy and gained 2 oz, or 11% body mass increase. After 2 days her stool is normal and she is eating and drinking fine with no signs of anything wrong. My vet said we would only need Canada West if she had a severe liver shunt, as the rest of her bloodwork was normal and to retest her in 2 weeks. I called the Merecroft Clinic to make my report and voice my concerns to the owner. They didn't seem to care and the owner never called me back. Totally unprofessional and I will be telling all my breeders, clients and Mr. Google to avoid this place. Read Less
