We moved to the area two years ago and were concerned about finding a good vet for our senior dog and newly rescued younger dog. I am so grateful that we found the Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic. They are exceptional at what they do - and they care. Their prices are similar to other vets we have gone to - and they are always speaking with us about how we can manage costs (especially for our now 16 year old dog who needs a bit of extra care these days) without compromising treatment. I wouldn't give them a single star, but you need to in order to post a review. I will say that they are good if you have a LOT of money, but try to get a refill for medication without booking an appointment... GOOD LUCK! Our rat has an upper respiratory infection that is taking a long time to clear up, and they did give me a second medication to add without another appointment, when after a few days he wasn't getting better... but after a week the second medication ran out. I called to get it 'refilled', and was told that I'd need another appointment. I explained to them that I was on disability, didn't get my check for just over a week, that I didn't think he would last another week, that the $100 that I'd paid them the previous week was all that I had until then, and that I just barely had enough to cover the price of the medication. The mercenaries said "SORRY, no appointment, no refill". :( Our other two rats, and our two cats will be going elsewhere from now on! Read Less

Dr. Mueller, Dr. Maarhuis and staff are amazing. We have just moved to the Chilliwack area and have changed our pet of 15 years. We have found that they are caring and compassionate and realize that a pet is not just an animal; they understand that each pet is an important part of a family. I went to this vet clinic to get some dewormer for my 2 cats. I told the girl at the desk the weight of my cats and she gave me 2 pills, one for each cat. I asked her if these pills would kill everything, she said yes.A month and a half later I was cleaning their box and I found worms again! I called them and told them that the worms were back. The girl then told me that they need to be wormed 2 weeks apart, I said, "why didn't you tell me that in the first place and give me 4 pills?" I told her that I was not very happy because the first 2 pills cost me $30 and now I am going to have to spend another $60 to worm them 2 weeks apart!She took my name and number and said she would get her manager to call me. When the manager called me back she didn't even apologize and said she would take the $9 dispensing fee off the $60 pills that I was now going to have to purchase! I said if this was handled properly it would have cost me $60 but now it's going to cost me $90! She was unapologetic and could have at least given me my original $30 back. The girls at the counter have no clue what they are doing and I will never get meditation or take my cats here EVER! If I could give them zero stars I would!THOROUGHLY UNIMPRESSED!!! Read Less

Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic has gone above and beyond every time I have needed their services. The staff are always kind, always helpful and always pleasant. The Veterinarians are competent, caring, kind and informative. I had a seinor rescue dog, it was absolutely love at first sight for both of us!! He was a 140lb mastiff X rotwieler. He was nine years old and suffered from arthritis. The arthritis had settled in his spine and so, all to soon I had to make the sad decision to euthanize him as he could no longer move and only cried The folks at cottonwood were so helpful and compassionate!! They completely understood that he was my family! They even sent me a sympathy card I was so impressed with their help that I brought them a gift of a forever flower! I also like the fact the the vet is very honest with me about how her health is. The girls in the front are very kind and professional. And are very helpful. We tried many different vets when there was something wrong with our family dog, but Dr. Slander was the only one able to actual help and resolve our dogs issue. Considering my cat just had surgery this morning, he is recovering nicely. When the vet tells you she is thinking about the surgery the night before, then you know she cares. We've been going to Cottonwood for years now, with Dr. Tim Maarhuis as our vet, and we have nothing but good things to say. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted warmly by his staff. Once in with Tim, he takes the time to complete a thorough examination of your pet, all the while showing true caring and compassion. He doesn't conduct unnecessary tests, but rather determines the problem quickly and with minimal stress on both your pet and your wallet. And when the inevitable time comes for your animal to be put down, either at his office or at your home, he does this difficult task with warmth and compassion. We have three pets (two dogs and a cat) and thus Ive spent much time at the veterinarians office. If you love your pets as family members, I couldnt imagine a better place for you to trust with their health. Vanessa and Sam up front go above and beyond in their assistance, friendliness, care, and concern for our animals. I always look forward to chatting with them when I come in. Dr. Selander is our main vet and the respect and affection she has for animals is obvious. A couple of months ago, our puppy Harlow began having seizures and was very sick. My mom, who came to see her grandpuppy, commented on how much compassion for us, and Harlow, that she could see in Dr. Selanders eyes. Dr. Selander allowed us to spend the day in a room with Harlow hooked up to IV as we clung to the hope that she might make it through, and when, after doing everything they/we possibly could for her, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go, the shared sadness and the sympathy from the staff was evident. Ive also had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Maarhuis when Dr. Selander hasnt been available and have appreciated his calm presence and the time hes taken both to examine our animals, and to explain the situation, whatever it may be, to me. I never feel rushed when I take my pets here, and I always feel, thanks to the staffs love and attentiveness, that I can fully trust them with the most important and cherished things in my life: my pets.Read Less

Dr. Maarhuis is the best vet I've ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable and always goes above and beyond. We had our American bulldog go in for an eye surgery and it took her a bit longer to come out of her Anesthesia than expected and Dr.Maarhuis stayed with by her side and waited till she was ready to go home wel after everyone else had gone home. I had a Guinea pig who I adored, his name was Henry. I loved him so much, had him for like 3 years, but he eventually got cancer and one night he kept falling over, shaking, not eating or drinking, looked so rough, he was dieing :( I couldn't go back to sleep knowing he was in such pain.. I knew this was the night he wasn't going to make it. He was suffering. It was around 2am at the time.. I was like what vet would take a call about a guinea pig at this hour.. But me & my boyfriend at the time were distraught. So I tried anyway. We called cottonwood vet and the veterinarian came down to the clinic and put Henry down for us. He waved the cremation fee and he put Henry down, pain free. He was also very supportive and so nice to us, as we were both very upset. He also explained the type of cancer Henry had. But the fact he came all the way down to the clinic at 2am just to put a guinea pig down because he knew how much it meant & that it was a member of the family, it meant so much to me. Ever since then, they've been my favorite. Their prices are super fair, they are really knowledgable, and will explain everything to you! They also follow up on your pets and will let you know when it's time for your pets next shot etc. But I just thought id share my story :) I love them!Read Less

I cant describe the level of being unprofessional I had after using this hospital for my cats. First of all, I use the same veterinarian for my cats and dogs for years and due to her being unable to schedule an urgent spay appointment for my kitten, I resorted to use Cottonwood Vet CLinic in Chilliwack, which was recommended to us by a friend.I am a registered breeder and I spay and neuter all kittens we produce as pets, so this kitten was 4 month old, healthy before the spay and the largest in her litter.Little Dusty was on the operating table when the surgeon noticed large enlarged lymph node inside and called me right away. We agreed that we will do blood test as well as biopsy to find out what it was, Dusty was spayed and my bill for her spay and tests was around 600$ (I also neutered an older male, so it is around 600$).I asked the hospital to let me know asap the results because Dusty was supposed to fly to Halifax to meet her new owners in a month and since it was first time we had a large lymph node during surgery I was worried and wanted to know the results.Long story short, the biopsy was not requested for 3 days. They shipped the samples end of the week, while they took it earlier that week. They just forgot them, but they also made a decision to ship it to Toronto instead of using local lab (which did not fail us in the past).Long story short, the results of biopsy, delayed, came in negative for everything. The blood test indicated she might be early stage of FIP.Later on Dusty succumbed to wet form of FIP and died. Imagine the feeling when I received an email stating Dusty is due for NEUTER surgery!!! Now, heartbroken about Dusty's death, I receive an email from the hospital which SPAYED her, that she is not DUE TO NEUTER...Those people have no heart. They saw how desperate I was to hear the results. They did not bother to send them for days. Later on they scheduled neuter surgery for my kitten which they spayed in their hospital.BEWARE their prices are not even real because I never would have paid so much for biopsy and blood test.Worst experience ever. My wife and I are so lucky to have found Dr. Maarhuis and Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic, and can't recommend him highly enough.  We moved to Chilliwack about 16 months ago, and took our pets to a few different vets as we settled into town.  After we met Dr. Maarhuis about a year ago, we knew that we had found the best one.  He takes the time to thoroughly explain potential causes of a pet's health issues, as well as the various treatment options, and does so in a way that is easy to understand.  He is very patient, and we've never felt rushed during an examination.  In addition, his prices are extremely reasonable, and his staff is friendly and helpful.Dr. Maarhuis is also a kind and compassionate person, and we appreciate the way he handled the diagnosis, care, and (ultimately) passing of our beloved cat back in March.  It was extremely difficult for us, but he helped us to make an informed decision after the cat took a turn for the worse, and was very caring when it was time for us to put him to sleep.We have a dog as well, and are grateful for the excellent care he receives when he needs to go to the vet.  We wouldn't take him to anyone other than Dr. Maarhuis and Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic.  Five stars! I live in Vancouver but am frequently in Chilliwack visiting a relative. Twice in the past year and a bit my dog has needed veterinary help "now not later" during those visits  and I have been fortunate enough to have had Dr Maarhuis and his great staff at Cottonwood to help us out.First time was a weekend morning and though they were busy, when I explained the situation they said bring her right in and they would squeeze her in. The needed surgery was done within hours and I received a follow up call the next day to check on how my dog was doing. Very impressed with the care my dog received, the demeanor of all the staff and the fact that they offered to fax in my veterinary insurance forms without my asking was a pleasant bonus.A little over a year later my dog managed to cut herself rather badly late on a Friday evening. Called Cottonwood an hour and a half before closing and after the receptionist checked with Dr Maarhuis, it was again, bring her in, we will fit her in. He had a look and told me to leave her with them for an hour, he remembered her from that one episode over a year ago and would be able to stitch her up without too much trouble in between everything else he had going on already. An hour later as promised she was patched up and ready to go.Again the insurance paperwork was completed and faxed for me, I received a follow up call the next day to check in on my dog, and I couldn't be happier with how myself and my pet were treated. The bills in both instances were very reasonable, insurance aside. The clinic is clean and comfortable. Also, the vet technician that explained the medications we were taking home was the same in both incidents and I know turnover in vet practices can be quite high so that speaks volumes to me as well.
