I take my two rabbits here now and I used to have Dr. Sylvia but then she left the hospital. Currently found it difficult to speak to front desk about the vaccine for my buns. They were very brash and had some attitude. Did not receive any reassurances of any sort. This soured my experience so much so that I ended up taking them to head and tails in Maple Ridge where Dr. Upjohn now works. Dr. Sylvia also moved to the Shaughnessy Vet Hospital. Front desk staff at head and tails were more welcoming and took the time to discuss our options and the reasons behind the cost of vaccines. Also costs were very reasonable. Read Less

This is the first time I went to this clinic. I need to get a animal health certificate for my niece's chinchilla to be exported to HK. We have tried one time before, it was not accepted by the government of HK. There are many details that need to be filled according to their requirement even with the format. Dr. Ian Hardin is very patient. We changed about 5 times to meet the requestment. I would really appreciate Dr. Ian's help. I will recommend this hospital to anyone who is in need. Read Less

I brought my hedgehog into Eagle Ridge after struggling to find a clinic that had any experience with them. Dr Lin Khoo was amazing and so very gentle with me and with Harlow. In the end we did have to put Harlow down due to the pain she was in but I made that choice being well informed and truly felt Dr Khoo knew what was going on vs other previous vet trips elsewhere. They also got me in very quickly considering I had been taking Harlow to another locations before. The rest of the staff were excellent as well and were very helpful in getting the paper work done quickly and in the room after I was in tears from making the choice. If you have a hedgehog trust me I've called around and looked to find vets and this is the place you need to come to!! Thank you to Dr Lin Khoo and all of the staff at Eagle Ridge Animal Hospital. This is such a late review, but better late than never... :) I came to this animal hospital back in June 2016, when my budgie unexpectedly passed away :( I had left the night before with my boyfriend to visit our friend in Nanaimo, and we were back on the ferry the next day when my brother called me and told me the bad news. My poor boy Spirit.. I was and still am devastated to say the least. I called Eagle Ridge about cremation, and they told me I could come in right away. The woman who helped us pick out an urn and such was so kind, when I was crying, she started to tear up too and gave me a hug. I even requested if they could keep a couple of his feathers for me as a keepsake, and they did that for me of course. I picked Spirit up I think 2 days later and the company that does the cremation service even included a cremation certificate. The next week I unexpectedly received a "With Sympathy" card from Eagle Ridge Animal Hospital with all the staffs signatures inside. I just thought that was so sweet, and thoughtful. Thank you Eagle Ridge Animal & Bird Hospital for being so gracious, and I appreciate the care and service I & Spirit received.Read Less

I've been so impressed with the care and service we've received at Eagle Ridge! My dog was diagnosed with Hyperparathyroidism, which involved an ultrasound, surgery and daily blood tests for 2 weeks afterwards - fair to say we've spent a fair amount of time here in the last few weeks! Each visit we were met by the friendly and helpful front desk staff and vet techs. Dr Sylvia was so informative and really took the time to explain everything in detail. She called to provide my dog's test results daily and was always available to answer the questions and concerns I had. This type of service is SO appreciated when you're worried about your pet's health and well-being and really helped to make a stressful time much easier. I really feel that she went above and beyond, even taking the initiative to call me when I returned from vacation to check in on how things were going. I have been bringing both of my bunnies here for roughly a year and have been more than satisfied with the knowledgeable, experienced vets and staff, the quality of care provided, and the reasonable prices. Dr. Allan Stockley performed my 2 year old, previously overweight bunnies mature spay, which can be a very complicated procedure and he did an excellent job. She had no complications and was back to her normal self quickly! My other bunny's spay was also done very well and the stitches were very neat and tidy. When she stopped eating after the surgery, the staff both coached me through the next steps I should take over the phone, and called the next day to ensure she was improving, which she did rapidly. I am in the midst of some unforeseen medical problems in my youngest bunny beginning with GI Stasis and now progressing into a potential bacterial infection and she has been seeing Dr. Sylvia. She takes the time to listen to me, was very quick to call me back when placed on her 'call back list' and helped us to solve our stasis problem quickly. I'm thankful to have such a knowledgeable and compassionate veterinarian and team caring for my bunny.Read Less

I wasn't going to write a review after I left, paying close to $75 for a 10 minute chat with the vet and walking away without a diagnosis. I drove over an hour to come here, and then waited 45 minutes after my appointment time to be seen. I don't think you can be considered experts in your area and I won't be coming back. My bunny had a massive bubble of air on her head after she had about a 10 second rabbit fight the day before. We agreed that it was an air bubble and I was told it would go away within a month - but the reason as to how it got there went unexplained. I found this quite bizarre and so I decided to take up my own research. I am in the medical field myself but I am not a veterinarian, so my animal knowledge is limited. What she had is what is known as a subcutaneous emphysema - which explains her air bubble. What this doesn't explain is how it got there. If it wasn't blunt trauma, the next most likely cause is from an entry point (aka: a hole/cut/air bubble from a needle). Her head was so swollen and sensitive, she hid away from us in her hut within her home for 2 days until I discovered willow bark. Yes, this means I was not prescribed pain medication for her. As the air bubble has now decreased and she has the willow bark for pain, I have been able to touch her head without putting her through too much agony. I have discovered two large gashes (now with scabs thank goodness) that are on her face beneath her thick fur. I am honestly so upset that this was so simple but yet, went unnoticed. You only had to feel her face and move her fur around to see it. I understand people make mistakes- I do, we all do. The fact is this injury was significant enough that her skin was clearly bitten and torn away from her tissue, allowing the air to become trapped. The best news is that I believe she will be okay - no infection seems to be noted at this time. You can reply to my post like you have to the others who have complained but I won't be emailing you or calling you with further details - you have it all here. Read Less

Best vet I have ever been to in my life. I trust this clinic 100% They go above and beyond. They truly care about the life of the animal and understand the bond us owners have. They care more about the life of a pet than they do about the money. This was evident when my bunny was sick. They ran extra tests for me when I could not be reached at work and those tests were not charged to me, not even when I offered and so I chose to donate the amount. When Bugzy had some unforeseeable complications after surgery they called me after hours to go and see him.I was able to spend time with him and comfort him from 11pm- midnight. I've also seen them work their magic in emergency situations. They took wonderful care of a dog and owner who were both injured & distressed after being attacked in a park by another dog. Between my experience with the vet, reception, nurses and entire staff. I have never been to a more kind, loving, honest and dedicated clinic. The worse possible experience of our lives. Our senior cat, 20 years old who was lost for 4 days was taken there by a Good Samaritan that found her. Was charged for every possible test, $800 later. She passed away last week after 2 weeks from being treated at this so called hospital. When we took her to another vet we were told she should have been let go of when she was lost and found. Which means the vet and the staff chose money over ethics. The vet took one look at her and said she should be let go of to rest in peace. Treating animals who are considered family should be taken care of with heart not another $ to be made. Shame on you and the staff who also chose not to be helpful when we desperately were trying to find out if was found and treated there and would not confirm. There is a very fine line between caring and cruelty. We do not wish any of this on any other family and their beloved pet.Read Less

I moved here from New York a couple months ago and was trying to find a creditable vet here in Vancouver for my chinchilla. She's had teeth problems for a very long time and I've had a couple vets in New York who took advantage of the fact that I was willing to pay to help my chinchilla. I found this place on a chinchilla forum online and everyone said Dr. Upjohn was the one to see. He has retired now but I went and saw Dr. Hardin. What an amazing, compassionate and honest vet he is. He was able to find things that my vet I love back in New York wasn't able to find. She needed a lot of surgery to fix a deep rooted problem. They were only able to find this after doing an XRay. He told me can do the surgery, he was comfortable doing it has he's done it before but he also knew of a dental surgeon who has for this more times than he has and he called to get me a comparison price to what he would charge. While I waited for my scheduled surgery date I had a family emergency and had to go home to New York for a couple days. They were able to take my chinchilla for me and administer her meds while I was gone and didn't charge me an arm and a leg.Once we were able to get her into surgery and started to prep for it they found the issues were even worse than they thought. I had to make the horrible decision to put my chinchilla down. It just wasn't fair to make her go through multiple surgeries that they couldn't even guarantee would fix the problems. I feel like Most vets would have just gone through with the surgery and kept telling you to keep doing the surgeries to make themselves money. But Dr. Hardin was very honest and told me my decision was a very humane one. The entire staff was so pleasant. They helped me pick out and urn, did the cremation for me and called me when her ashes were ready for pick up. They allowed me to have all the time I needed in a private room to say goodbye before they put her down. Afterward they sent me a condolences card the whole office signed, with my chinchilla's paw prints and little seeds I can plant in her name.I have never been more pleased with a vet. They are so kind and companionate. They know what they're doing and they are about making the right decisions for the pet and not all about making money. They are also the most adorable vet in Vancouver. I highly suggest bringing any animals, especially small animals, here. They will take great care of them. Read Less

If you have small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets and looking for a vet who specialises in small animals please bring your pets here to Dr. UpJohn.  Ive met many people, myself included that brought their baby to just a regular vet and had their baby misdiagnosed.. Sadly in my earlier years I brought my boy to a vet who didn't seem to know how to handle a rabbit properly and got bit and scratched by him because he was doing it wrong. Not all vets are trained the same.. Most are focused on dogs and cats but small animals need specialise vets who not only trained but will continue to train and attend seminars throughout their career.Being a previous bunny mom who lost her beloved boy from old age I understand the stress that comes with taking your bunny to the vet. One thing I learnt the hard way is rabbits teeth never stop growing and they need to be trimmed down by a specialist. That's where Dr. UpJohn comes in. He explains the process to you about what he's going to do and when it will happen etc.. After the dental surgery he will call you to let you know how your baby is doing and when you're expected to come pick him up. He also doesn't charge for everything.. While being put under he will trim the bunny's nails if they need to be and when it comes time to pay there is no charge to the nail trimming just the dental work. This vet knows his stuff. The people at the front desk are also really kind and helpful and they have a kitty named Her Majesty who has one eye.. Poor girl lost it in an accident I think..and she's really friendly and adorable. She can be found napping on the front desk counter and if you pet her while she's sleeping she wakes up purring.
