We rescued a Lab cross from the Cowichan SPCA in November of 2019, and he had been getting his care through the SPCA at CCAH. We have continued to bring him here as the staff are always so friendly and accommodating. Drs. Keith and Charlene always take the time to explain what is going on and course(s) of treatment - in terms that we can understand. We know our dog is in good hands when we take him to this clinic and based on the standards of care we have experienced, we would highly recommend them. Read Less

So it's called an animal hospital, so I thought that they would be able to take an emergency case. My dog was vomiting, shaking and bleeding, but the receptionist said that they don't do "emergency walk ins". They referred me to another clinic. I told the receptionist that I was walking and it would take be too long to carry my dog to the other clinic. She said it would only take 45 minutes! Seriously! I get that they may be "booked up" but there was only one person there and they didn't even attempt to squeeze my dog in. For the love of God...he was bleeding and vomiting! So it's called an animal hospital, so I thought that they would be able to take an emergency case. My dog was vomiting, shaking and bleeding, but the receptionist said that they don't do "emergency walk ins". She referred me to another clinic. I told her that I was walking and had a damaged knee and that it would take a while for me to walk to the other clinic. The receptionist told me it should be only a 45 minutes. Seriously! I get that they may be "booked up" but there was only one patient there and they didn't even attempt to squeeze my dog in. For the love of God...he was bleeding and vomiting! These people have no compassion for animals. I would not go back even if they found it in their little hearts to see my little guy.
Followup Response Rebuttal: The response to my review is PR spin control. They said that they called another vet and stated, "what else could we do?" That is laughable in a sad way! They could have squeezed in an emergency case and rescheduled a non-emergency case if need be. They use a human hospital as an example with respect to triage. This is a good comparison but hospitals don't turn away cases where a human is bleeding, shaking and vomiting. I'm not sure that this animal "hospital" knows the meaning of "triage"! Like I said, the place was empty when I got there and putting animals with appointments first is NOT triage. This is a very sad place. I guess what it boils down to is that this place is a business and they are not in it to help animals but to make money and apparently they have enough clients that they don't have to worry about helping emergency cases. BTW I talk to a cab driver who has a cat that is registered at this "animal hospital" and when he takes his cat in with no appointment they see him right away. I guess it's like a close club and non-members don't count. Read Less

Our dog is anxious around strangers and we were quite worried about taking her to the vet. The folks at Central Cowichan Animal Hospital were wonderful, she relaxed immediately and recovered from her spay operation in record time, no ill effects. The next time we took her in was for her shots and an ear infection, which the vet diagnosed immediately and treated, she hasn't had a problem since as we are doing the things he told us about, like drying out her ears. She was not a bit nervous and quite happy to go with them into the treatment room. What a wonderful group of people staffing this clinic. Would recommend highly as a caring place to take your pet.
