As always Dr Lewis is kind and caring, as well as knowledge about our dog's health. Abby has had tonsillitis off and on since she was a puppy. Originally I took her to three different vets in Kamloops that could not figure out what was wrong with her (at one point her eye started popping out from the infection). They take their sweet time getting back to you about results. Waited 5 days to hear back from them on X-ray results and they just regurgitated info my old vet (before I moved) had given them. Finally after 5 days heard back from Dr. Lewis, he says he's still waiting on the surgeons response, but he had waited to contact the surgeon until the 5th day when I continued to push them for the results. We took our cat here after expressing concern of vomitting blood. The first visit, $900 in, seemed to remedy the constipation but issues persisted. The cat was then brought in a second time and given a film-shot X Ray where it was again assumed the cat had constipation and was treated as such - $500 this time including basic blood work and an extraordinarily archaic looking X Ray. After our cat once again began vomitting blood and dark liquid, we were told that the vet who saw our cat would call. The receptionist made no effort to call us back later in the day to tell us that the vet wasn't actually in - I called near closing that day and was told the vet would call the next day. The next day came and went and we were left a voicemail with followup suggestions for our cat's symptoms - except the very same vet who saw our cat the second time apparently couldn't be bothered to read the notes from the last visit to even so much as know what species he was. We were given instructions on how to try to remedy the symptoms as if our animal was a dog and the vet referred to our cat as a dog not once but three times during the voice mail. We elected to go to another veterinary clinic a week later and were much happier with the treatment despite the unfortunate result of our cat having a stomach tumor. I really wish that Central had spent the time and diligence to discover this at least on their second visit - we expressed no concern about the cost of the tests and had to reiterate we would spend whatever it took to find out what was wrong with our cat. The other vet was able to determine what was wrong and their X Ray machine really made apparently to us how out of date the technology at Central Animal Hospital really is - the alternative vet's x Ray was significantly more clear and they charged us no more than what Central had. I don't want to pile on Central because they've been good to the pets of family members for much less complicated needs such as ehthuansia and routine checkups but if you are legitimately concerned about the health of your pet I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere in town. The staff at Central, including the vet, were pleasant enough to warrant a 2 star review but I will no longer be bringing my pets here. Read Less

I found the veterinarian knowledgeable, moderately thorough, but the fees are high and they don't consider the amount spent when adding on extras. Like most people I'm on a budget, so it would have been nice after spending close to $300.00 in one appointment to get a break on the $40.00 recheck a few days later. I've had dogs all of my life and have rarely seen this practice and moved on when I have. Their two hour lunch break can be very inconvenient if you have to wait for results or prescriptions. You know it is a great place when your dogs are excited to go to the Doctor and get in the door. My gold lab/ret would actually fake a limp in an attempt to try to get me to take him to see Dr. Lewis a little more often. When asked if he needed to go see Dr. Lewis he would exaggerate his fake limp. Then you mentioned a treat and he forgot about limping so I knew he was just wanting to visit Dr. Lewis. My dogs have always received quality and compassionate care at this clinic and it is highly recommended by this household. Read Less

The folks at Central Animal are so kind, compassionate and helpful! They have been so amazing with all my fur babies especially Harry Ha Ha who has a number of allergy and skin issues and any other weird thing a dog can get. Love them all! I am so impressed by the service I received from the Central Animal Hospital when I had to bring my rabbit in for an emergency visit. In Kamloops when you need a vet after hours, your call is routed to a central line and forwarded to whichever clinic is open that day so I had no choice where I had to take her.The vet and the vet tech who were working that day were fantastic. Rabbits are very finicky pets and it can be difficult finding a vet that will take them on as a patient. The vet here was great with her and put many of my concerns at ease. He gave me lots of advice for what I could do for her once we got home.This particular visit was quite expensive but that was mostly due to the additional emergency fee that I had to pay for coming in on a Sunday. Otherwise their rates were comparable to what I've seen at other clinics.The thing I appreciated the most was how the vet tech called me the next day to follow up with how things were going.
