TL;DR: Don’t use an emergency vet unless you absolutely have to, and even then don’t use Animal Emergency Clinic of The Fraser Valley. The care was insufficient and management won’t address the problem. Our cat (7m) developed a pus-filled abscess on his back, probably due to a cat fight. This upset my family who insisted on rushing him to an emergency care vet. I was in favour of taking him to our normal vet in the morning but I’m just the dad… My wife is a nurse and while giving the boil a little prod, a small laceration burst open and started oozing pus. Knowing that draining it was a first step, we expressed as much out as we could, then took the cat off to Animal Emergency Clinic of The Fraser Valley in Langley BC. They were very nice people. Emergency vets are expensive so the $180 emergency and consultation fee was no surprise (even though it applies also during normal working hours and follow up visits). After a couple of hours, our cat was returned to us with some antibiotics and Metacam (a controversial NSAID pain reliever). I noticed there was no drain in the wound and asked about it but was told it was not a problem. We got some blood work done ($180) we prob didn’t have to but we applied an abundance of caution. Got out of there $550 dollars later. When my wife (the nurse) saw there was no drain she was surprised as a drain is standard for abscesses. Within 4 days, the abscess came back despite the antibiotics. We took the cat to our regular vet and they said that a drain would likely have prevented the drain surgery we were now looking at. When we said where we had taken the cat (Animal Emergency Clinic of The Fraser Valley) the vet made some vague noises about that place not being so good to go to. Meanwhile, the poor cat needs surgery, IV and sedation, as well as more antibiotics, all to the tune of another $500. Our vet cut us a bit of a deal but still… I contacted Animal Emergency Clinic of The Fraser Valley twice, politely, and was told in each case that management would contact me. Nada so far. The first time I spoke with the clearly uncomfortable receptionist (no one likes complaint calls) she said she wasn’t sure what they could do for us. I said that if it were my business, I’d say, “Oops, our bad. Here’s at least a partial refund.” But no response so far. That’s $1000 we can’t afford right now. Five hundred is bad enough but repeating the cost because of poor treatment is frustrating. What is worse is the unwillingness by management to address the issue. Read Less

This emergency clinic is very needed and I appreciate that it exists when my dog become very ill, but I would have to rate my experience average. The support staff is very friendly but my experience with the vets could have been better. If I didn't have my friend with animal emergency experience I would have felt very lost. It was hard to follow what the vets were finding during the tests and the communication back to me was often on the negative and risk focused perspective. As well I had to call the clinic for updates rather then the clinic staff calling me when the tests were done. I'm thankful that my dog was referred to a specialist center for surgery and survived the procedure, but it feels that the culture of the vets at this emergency have maybe lost some of their passion when it came to helping me, as the dog owner, seeing hope for the future of my dog. This is not a 24/7 operation and does NOT look to be fully staffed as they claim! I just left there after waiting for almost 2 hours without even seeing a vet anywhere in sight! There were 2 people ahead of me that were waiting even longer both with very sick dogs and then another big dog outside in the back of a truck. I asked why no movement and none of the exam rooms were in use.I was told they were in the middle of a shift change and the triage team had to go over things with the new vet which to me meant there was no vet there! It is a Saturday night afterall. I only found out because I asked and wasn’t going to be held hostage! Your clinic needs to do a better job as well as keep your patients informed! The * is for the staff I did see which were pleasant enough.I hope someone finally saw to the dog in the truck and the pit bull that could barely stand...the other couple left with me....So damn sad and infuriating! A pet hospital is the last place you want to find yourself at with your animal companion, but this is the best place you can go to when faced with that emergency. My dog was transferred from our family vet critically ill and spent 5 nights here getting top level care while she recovered. The entire staff, techs, nurses, and doctors were kind and helpful, accommodating and considerate. Having a sick pet is a terrible experience, but if it ever happens you need to visit the team here at the Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley. Very grateful with how well she was taken care of. Thanks AECFV ❤️ Read Less

The facility was clean and well organized and we ended up getting a quick and flawless referral to a specialist for further treatment. Fee's were fair and ended up being even a little bit less than originally quoted. Would take any of our pets here in the future if need be without hesitation. A big thank you from Finnegan ! I rarely write reviews but this clinic deserves to be recognized. I have just picked up my poodle that spent 24 hrs with them for a serious liver issue. I had contact with 3 doctors over the duration of my dogs stay. All were direct, informative and upfront about everything. One of the Doctors took the time to call me at 4 am because I was stressed and requested updates at anytime information became available. All three spent ample time with me and despite an extremely busy waiting room I never felt rushed. I appreciate the professional way every member of the staff at this clinic conducted themselves from the moment I walked in the door. Well done and thank you so much. Read Less

These amazing people saved my dogs life ! 2 weeks ago my 11 year-old lab Bently, got a raw bone lodged in his throat. Panicked, I called the office to tell them I'm on my way. Driving like a crazy person , while my boy could barely breathe was the hardest thing to watch . When I arrived awesome Tammy, one of the assistants was waiting outside for us. She quickly picked my 85 lb boy out of the back seat and ran into a room where vets and staff were waiting and ready for him. The bone was literally stuck but thank God for these people. They managed to sedate him quick enough, get the bone out and save his life . He was minutes away from dying . I cannot thank the staff at this hospital ! I had to take a friends dog that was very unwell in to the clinic while I was taking care of him. The staff were extremely professional, kind and empathetic. It was an incredibly difficult situation and the vet Deanna was honest and caring . She took it upon herself to have a conversation with the owners, even though they were out of the country. They took an awful day and made as good as it could be. The clinic is very well run and it’s almost unfortunate it’s only for emergencies since if I had a pet, I’d like it taken there for regular care. Read Less

The staff here are very well educated and very friendly. We have had the unfortunate pleasure of visiting this emergency three times over the past 4 years. Every visit has exceeded our expectations and we always leave feeling very assured. I read through some of the negative reviews and feel they are typically left on more serious cases, and are usually based around money. I think its important to put yourself in the shoes of the technicians. They deal with pain, suffering and death on a daily basis. When they want to charge you to have your animal stay over night or to run more tests, its not to be greedy or to pinch your wallet, its for the well being of your animal. I understand not everyone has thousands of dollars to dish out, but good work is never cheap. That's just the reality of things. Anywho, there is my rant. I would definitely recommend to friends and family. We are very fortunate to have such great people so close by, although Milo might say otherwise :) Read Less

The team here was so great and caring when we rushed our nearly 5 year old male cat in late at night. He was in a pretty bad way due to a bladder blockage. They took really good care of our Cthulhu and answered all our questions (and happily answered my phone calls for updates through out his stay!). My fiance even got to go visit our boy for a little bit while he was being kept at the clinic for treatment. Thank you so much for your gentle touch and understanding. You do great work! Also for anyone who hasn't checked out their options yet. Vet care (especially good emergency care!) can get expensive fast and this experience really opened our eyes to the importance of pet insurance. So look into that ahead of time if you can. Read Less

Absolute waste of money. It's unbelievable that in this day and age vets can be so clueless when a domestic cat becomes ill. My mother ended up spending over $6K for our dying cat to go through a battery of tests, spending her last days in a small cage away from family. I never really felt like the vets cared for the best outcome of our cat. They didn't even bother to explain the possible causes of what was going on with our cat. It became a never ending request for more and more tests. When we decided to have her put down, we were quickly hammered with a series of questions trying to upsell the euthanasia in various ways. My mom is crying her eyes out saying goodbye to a dear family friend, and she can't even do that in peace without having to think of spending even more money then she already has. Why couldn't this have been saved till after our cat was put down? This was just further evidence that this vet is out to milk customers for every dollar. I know how tough the decision is, but unless you don't mind spending $5k-$20K or more on a pet, you're better off euthanizing them. It's honestly better off for your dying pet as well, unless you are committed to spending an extreme amount of money which won't guarantee a positive outcome for your pet. Read Less

Took my little Dachshund in around midnight as she had blood in her pee. Over 2 hours it got worse and worse. The entire staff was wonderful! Very professional, reasonably priced for an emergency visit. She has a history of bladder stone's so of course I thought the worst. They did an xray and blood sample. She had a bad UTI that they gave her antibiotics for and sent us on our way. Thankfully the xray eased my mind as it wasn't stones!!! They did not gouge or want to run major tests (I feel a lot of vets do these days) the vet gave me a few options and let me chose how I wanted it treated. He spent a lot of time answering my questions and I didn't feel rushed, which means a lot since my dog is my best friend :) I feel as if they had her health (and mine haha) in their best interest, and not their wallets. That is a great feeling these days and hard to find, especially in an emergency as they are the only ones still open. Will return again for sure, but of course we hope we never have too. Read Less

They also cant find it out what is wrong with my dog and my doctor was keep trying to negotiate about the price and keep talking about the surgery.. keep saying lets do this exam and they dont know why and what is wrong and the doctor is thinking that my dog has this problem... they are not even 100 percent sure and only keep talking about the price and surgery even though i said no surgery because my dog is 9 years old. However, the doctor is keep saying same word over and over doesnt try and dont know whats wrong with my dog (couldnt find why my dog is whinning and crying). Omg what a morning!!! I'm on my way home from work when I hit traffic on 104 ave.. I'm thinking, what gives? Accident maybe? Nope. There was a little cat in the middle of the street. Just sitting and shaking. It was obvious he was injured. People were just driving past him... sooo close to hitting him! I stopped, carefully scooped him up.. he was bleeding from his mouth and freezing cold. I'm holding him and balling in my car, driving to the nearest animal hospital... "It's gonna be ok Buttons (I named him Buttons)" When I got to the Animal Hospital on Fraser Hwy and 153 they wanted nothing to do with him when they found out he was a stray. They were disgusting actually. They told me to leave. I'm like "well I can't throw him in the trash!! Is he dying?! Look at him at least!" I had to beg them to give him morpheme for the pain. (At this point I'm covered in blood and cat poo) The little puke that works there told me to drive him out to the Langley animal hospital. On my way, the morpheme kicked in and Buttons turned into Linda Blair from the exorcist. I had to pull over and wrap him in my sweater.. "stop trying to kill me Buttons I'm saving your life!!" He finally calmed down when I got a stray jacket on him.. The staff at Animal Emerg Clinic in Langley were AMAZING. They took him right away and checked him out. They made me a coffee and even teared up when I told them the story... you can tell these people actually loved animals. I can't say enough good things about the team at AECFV! Our miniature poodle Gemma would never have survived her coyote attack without their intensive care, and coordination with Dr. Geoff Hutchinson at Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Between the two teams, Gemma got round-the-clock care in that critical period after surgery to repair her numerous wounds. Their expertise not only got her through the ordeal, but helped *us* get through it as well, allowing brief visits during her three-day stay, and keeping us up-to-date on her condition. I want to send out a special thanks to this clinic and their fantastic staff. I recently had a cat that is not even mine neutered, because I am trying to adopt him out. The next day got his cone off, he ripped himself open and had extensive bleeding. The vet was concerned that if she couldn't stop the bleeding by ligating the artery, that he would need emergency exploratory abdominal surgery to try to source out and stop the bleeding. Unfortunately this was financial not an option for me, so we decided to just try to ligate the artery with the cat under sedation. Due to her great veterinary skills, she was able to stop the bleeding keeping the cost minimal. Thanks to her and the amazing staff, Jack is now doing well in his early days of recovery. One of my reasons for moving to Langley was because of the emergency vet service, and a one stop treatment centre with Boundary Bay Diagnostics. My pets clinic Port Moody Animal Hospital recommended them for a Emergency and now they are my go to local place for emergency and specialty treatment. My pets have seen great specialists (Neurology, Oncology, Orthopedics, and Internal Medicine), and I fully believe that my fur family receives the best care and love possible during their emergencies through to discharge and follow up. Thanks for saving my dog when she came in with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis a few years ago. Took my sick dog to emerg for an infection that was causing bloody diarrhea. Vet offered me plan A quote for over $1400 to leave my dog for 24 hours. When I squirmed a bit on the cost she left the room for 10 minutes to go and print less expensive plan B quote. It's 2:00 a.m. Why not come in the first time with all my options at the same time? I left with my dog and the way over priced medications ($25 for 5 pepcid tabs!?) and a treatment plan for the next 7 days. 3 and 1/2 days into 7 day antibiotic course I ran out. Hmm since I work in a pharmacy and know how to draw .2 MLS into a syringe, even tho the clinic clearly marked the syringe with a red line, I know this is a dispensing error. Nevertheless, I called the clinic and they were waiting for me with my prefilled syringes to continue the next 3 and 1/2 days to finish the full course. When I asked why I was given pre-filled syringes and not given a bottle I was told it was to prevent anymore shortages and that sometimes suspensions coat the inside of a bottle and medication may be short due to this. Really? In what reality could I lose 3 and 1/2 days worth of medication because it has coated the inside of a dispensing bottle that you supplied?! Never in my 20 years in pharmacy have I heard of such a ridiculous thing ever happening! And we do not dispense total quantities of a mere 2.8 MLS, so please do not insult my intelligence!! Furthermore there was no apology for your dispensing error, or the inconvenience of having to make a 911 trip from poco to pick up what I was shorted. Next time I will gladly drive to Vancouver!Read Less

I would give it 4/5 stars and perhaps I am either being too generous or maybe I just have a lot of patience. Firstly, I was very happy that they are open 24 hours as I needed to bring my little girl in the middle of the night. If it weren't for them I wouldn't have known where to bring my little girl as the Fraser Valley animal clinic is well recommended by our home vet.I was happy with the friendliness of the initial staff as they were helpful. The only problem I have is with the wait time. I was more than willing to wait days if I needed to but considering that there was only 1 other person in the waiting room who left shortly after we arrived, we still waited well over 45 minutes, almost an hour, to see a doctor. The reasoning for this is because they were in the middle of a shift change. I found this rather rude as they were taking care of their own needs instead of the needs of the animal. Once my little girl was brought into the room it was then that they realized how serious her condition was. Perhaps they would have known this sooner if they were more prompt with getting her in. I understand that you want to get home after a shift but as a vet I would assume that your first priority would be the animals, despite them wanting to just go home. I may be taking this in the wrong way but it is the way in which I interpreted it.Also, the cost in which they charge is rather outrageous. I completely understand that they are an emergency clinic but the cost was well over $1000 for not even 12 hours. I am not at all cheap as I would pay an arm and a leg for my little girl. But considering the fact that she received the same, if not more, treatment for less than half the price with exceptional care from her home vet puts things into better perspective. Read Less

Read Less

I brought my ferret in while he was having a insulinoma siezure. The front staff were very caring but the vet herself was extremely cold and heartless. I had to have him put down and she was rough and rude about it. I also ordered paw prints to be done and when recieved them the staff didn't even care while doing them. Didn't even look like his paws they were smeared and you can just tell they didn't put any care or effort into what was a memory of my beloved fuzz baby! I've been here twice because they are the only 24 hours clinic with in a hour drive and both times had aweful service. Read Less

What a great place! I brought in my cat for emergency care. We had called ahead they let us know that with her symptoms she should be seen right away and when I came in unable to talk. They took her in right away. They did not try to up sell me on a temporary fix. They were honest and even gave her some pain medication so she wouldn't be in pain. They let us say goodbye and were very loving and caring as they put her to sleep. I will be recommending this place to all my friends! Read Less

Read Less
