I was generally happy with the care my 3 cats received while we were living in Nanaimo but unhappy about some very important information that was not given to me regarding one of my cats test results. I would not have found out about this but we have moved and my new vet accessed my cat's records. The records showed a high normal range test for kidney function which is indicative of kidney disease. This was never relayed to me so I never knew that my cat should get further testing and have a major change in his diet. The new vet addressed this right away but my cat lost a very important year and this has affected his health. I called today to let them know in the hopes that this would not happen with another pet at their practice. I found the person I spoke to basically just made excuses which wasn't what I was looking for. I will not recommend this vet office for any of my friends or family who live in the Nanaimo area. If you have medical problems with your animals in Nanaimo B.C. The Nanaimo Veterinary Hospital should be your first choice. Without a doubt Dr. Hayward and his entire staff are caring, friendly, compassionate and above all very professional. Several of our friends recommended Dr. Hayward's Clinic to us, as they experienced such positive results with their own pets.  We decided to take our little neurotic, 4 pound poodle, with an attitude to see Dr. Hayward.  He was everything and more than what we expected.  The first thing he said is that he works with the owner as well as the pet.  These were words were magic to my ears.  Since that time we have never looked back.  Dr. Hayward does not try to upsell services.  He is a kind, compassionate veterinarian who obviou;y loves his profession and all animals.  He never makes us wait any length of time.  If he knows the ailment is something that is beyond his field, he will immediately recommend a specialist.  We now have a very healthy little 4 pound poodle who is 15 years old and thriving.  It will be a very sad day for us when he gives up his practice. Dr Hayward has been a key advisor to our furry  family members for a number of years now.  He was always kind and compassinate with both the patient and the patient's owners.  Gives good information, recommends appropriate testing when needed and explains results in a way that makes it easier to understand.  When our beloved Chester became very ill with cancer he explained the very limited options and what the quality of life would look like.  He supported our extremly difficult decision to let our dear friend leave before the pain became too much for an old blind dog to understand.  He supported us after this tragic event by way of making sure the cremation was taken care of, returning the ashes to us a week later, a handwritten sympathy card and helping me through a tearful phone call when I couldn't get over the loss.   He gave me some more good advice and shared a few of his personal pet losses over the years helping me to continue the greiving process.I would highly recommend his services to support your pet's health and your peace of mind.Joy Sarauer Read Less
