Pros: Patient and friendly front-line staff, clean office, easy to get to by transit, there's an office cat :)Cons: Quotes aren't always complete (i.e. you are low-balled), the vet can take a really long time (days) to get back to youOver the years I have taken in many, many stray cats and have been a loyal client of the BCSPCA hospital in Vancouver. But when we got our new kitty we had moved to Burnaby, so with some trepidation I searched for a new animal clinic. All in all, the first couple of appointments were pricier than I had anticipated, but not outrageously so. Our girl was a stray and we had zero idea about her history or health. We had a full blood panel done (at our request, we needed to know what we were dealing with) and the vet gave a good explanation of the results. It led to another, more expensive, blood test to follow-up on the initial results, but I felt that it was merited. It should be noted, however, that getting the vet to call back about test results can be a bit of a pain. Sometimes he calls back in a timely manner, and other times you will wait a couple of days past when the results were supposed to be in and end up calling the office trying to get the results. It can take a couple of tries (i.e. days) before you get a call-back from the vet.The vet was unable to determine whether she was spayed or not (there was a mark that might have been a scar, but they are so small now it's hard to tell). We agreed to the wait-and-see approach since no one wants to do unnecessary surgery. Well, a couple of weeks later she of course went into heat! She was driving us absolutely nuts and we were desperate to get her spayed to stop the madness. We called in for an appointment and were told that spaying while she is in heat is slightly riskier (though still pretty safe) and would involve a relatively small surcharge. I don't remember the exact amount, but I think it was around $40. We agreed to that and made the appointment.Imagine my surprise when I brought her in on the morning of her surgery, fasted and all, and was presented with an estimate that was easily double of what I was quoted over the phone! There was the surcharge they mentioned, but also extra fees for fluids, painkillers, etc. that they felt were required for the surgery due to her being in heat. To be clear, there were no complications during her surgery, the pricing was all determined before she went under.I am not sure that if I had been warned in advance of the real price I would have gone ahead with the surgery. The initial quote and what I was charged differed by AT LEAST $100. But because I had the cat there, she was already fasted, and I was running short on sleep (due to her constant yowling) I agreed to the surgery. This pricing fiasco alone would have led to a pretty bad review, BUT the service from the front-line staff following the surgery was awesome. When we got home, our kitty was a little nightmare and I called in a number of times with various concerns. The staff was very patient with me and thoughtfully answered all my questions. I didn't once get the sense that they were feeling impatient with me. This, combined with the fact that my previous experiences here were alright (not stellar, but certainly not bad), led to the 3-star rating. That being said, I will probably be taking my cat somewhere else in the future. Read Less
