Dr. Rana, I hope you can take my advice as constructive criticism and not be offended - you are a good caring vet but I feel you are a bit unethical. I find you always recommmend taking the ‘better safe than sorry’ approach but I can’t help but feel you don’t mind charging your customers for unnecessary work sometimes. For example if someone wants to check for worms, you will always recommend sending a sample to the lab for an extra $200 etc. I have more examples I’m not going to share, but I hope my post will help you reconsider your approach. Dr. Rena was so patient and empathetic - he actually cared for our puppy. It was the day before new years eve, so most clinics were closed. We called in last minute for an emergency and received an appointment 15 min later. The wait was no more than another 15min before our puppy Mochi saw Dr. Rena. We explained our situation - Mochi, our 3 month old long haired dachshund puppy was suddenly trembling, lethargic, and had fragile breathes and couldn't walk. We didn't know what's going on and was so depressed and worried at the possibility of losing our baby. Dr. Rena came in and asked several questions to filter out possible causes quickly. And he then tested his vitals to make sure he's hanging in there. He was honest and considerate in the process, kept us in the loop in terms of prices and the treatment. After examination, he decided that the likely causes are either low glucose level or he ate something that would've been poisonous for him. He then put Mochi on IV for low glucose, heat pad to raise body temp, and chalk meds to rid of any poison inside his tummy to cover all grounds for the possible causes. He gave us a very reasonable quote and broke it down for us before and after the treatment. He stayed with Mochi to provide IV fluids all the way until the clinic closed at 6pm that day. The entire staff team took great care of Mochi during the hour he stayed there. We were so happy that we found this clinic on a short notice with such kind people to care for our baby. After 2 hours off the IV, Mochi came home rejuvenated and lively.The care did not stop here! Dr. Rena asked for our phone number and kept in touch with us for the following 2 days to ensure that Mochi was recovering. We can't thank Dr. Rena enough for saving out puppy!! Read Less

Dr Rana and his staff are the absolute best. Used to live in Richmond when I started going to his clinic and he's been so wonderful. My cat has been under his care for a few years and even though I live in Vancouver now I will make the trip just to see them (without a car). My kitty is quite the handful to deal with as he hates strangers up in his biz but dr rana and staff handle it so well. I love that they are so thorough and answer whatever question I have for them even when I'm calling numerous times throughout the day after a procedure. Visited this vet 4 times overall so my review is made after thorough first hand fair experience.My puppy was treated by both Dr. Rana and their weekend vet, They are both pleasant, the nurses are also very nice. However, we will not be returning.Through all the visits, they both pretty much try to sell their products continuously throughout each appointment. From flea treatment to recommending running unnecessary costly tests. I understand it's a business, but their approach is much too aggressive. When you decline their products, they will try 2-3 more times throughout the appointment, and the next.One visit, flea treatment was applied without our consent and then we were charged for it. The mention of the word "flea treatment" was never even brought up, until it showed up on the bill. (Dr. Rana ended up crediting us back the flea treatment, claiming a "miscommunication.)At the same appointment, our puppy was suppose to have been given 2 shots. However, the weekend vet all of a sudden "highly recommended" we come back for the rabies shot, claiming there could be a reaction after the first shot given. (This was her 3rd booster distemper shot, and she had no reaction to it previously, so why would she react now?) Keep in mind, they charge an "exam" fee every visit. So, when I brought up that fact, they then said they would "wave the exam fee" when we returned. I'm positive they would have charged me that fee had I not said anything like many people.At this last appointment for her rabies shot, our appointment was already pushed back 45 minutes, and when we arrived, we waited an hour past our appointment to see Dr. Rana. If they had been honest with me about the wait time when we first walked in, it would have saved our puppy's anxiety going through the roof waiting in the office. During the exam, I mentioned she had scratched at her ears a few times. I was then told by Dr. Rana she showed "signs of inflammation" in both ears that could turn into an infection. So, I bought the $40 bottle of medication. After 2 days of use, her itching became worse rather than better. It's been 2 days since we last gave her the drops, and funny enough, she's completely fine. I took her to another vet today, who confirmed she in fact, did NOT have an infection to begin with. This was my last straw with this vet office. As a pet owner, I should not feel like every visit I have to be on my toes, or I'd end up walking out with my puppy getting unnecessary treatments and a massive vet bill each time. Read Less

Dr. Rana and his staff exceeded my expectations in all aspects. They were very caring and attentive towards my dwarf hamster named Pudding. Pudding needed ointment for inflammation in his ear and Dr. Rana offered a much smaller dosage than what was commercially available so that I wouldn't have to pay for more than Pudding needed. They followed up with two calls to ask after Pudding and when I went back a week later, they did not charge me for the quick visit to confirm that Pudding was healthy again. Dr.Rana and the whole entire team is fantastic. I brought my puppy in when she was not feeling well during her first time in heat, and they immediately ran blood test and xray's on her to see if she's alright. She's been bloated and had no energy or mood for the past week. Then they went ahead to get a specialist to come in to perform surgery on her immediately because she had so many infections. They stayed after hours to finish the surgery. Dr. Rana went in at 10PM to make sure she was good, and gave me a call just to update me on her status. She stayed there for about 4 nights, and I called them everyday at least 3 times to check up on her. After I took her home, Dr.Rana would give me a call to check up on her. 2 weeks later I went back to get my puppy's stitches removed, and she was so happy to see Dr.Rana. Throughout the past 9 years I've had experience with a few different vets. There were those who will just try to get every single penny out of you or they will quote you top dollar and discount 50% if they think you will take your pet else where, others just don't really care. Dr. Rana would be my top pick. Every time when there's a health issue with my cats Dr. Rana would suggest alternatives according to the budget I have. He would spend the time to tell me what's needed and what's recommended. I do feel that he really cares about my cats. I've also board my cats here a few times while i was at vacation. I felt relieve to have a vet on site everyday when i was away knowing that my cats are in good hands. Dr. Rana and the staff here are great. They are always friendly and they take the time to help you. They know you by name and don't treat you like a number. We've been bringing our dogs here since we moved here 3 years ago and were lucky to have found this vet. They genuinely care about animals and not just your money like other vets. They also don't force you to do any procedure you aren't comfortable with and take the time to explain all your options if your pets are sick.Definitely recommend visiting them if you're looking for a new vet. You won't be disappointed.A tip for parking: they have two designated parking stalls in front of their business. If these spots are taken, park in the center of the parking lot as the other spots are designated for the other business and you might get a ticket. Read Less

Beware! Pet owners!!!!! This so-called animal hospital has the most unethical doctor I've ever seen!!!!! Doc recommended my Pomeranian to get ultrasound check up for his heart. After the procedure my Pom couldn't even walk or stand up anymore! They let us took him home without even give him a checkup and two hours later my poor Pom passed away...... No explanation from the hospital and all they are saying now is he had a heart attack from the procedure because it's too intense for him but they were the one recommending the specialist and said its safe in the first place!!!!!Owner wouldn't even refund us the money from the ultrasound although this procedure is what killed my Pom in the first place. We don't want money back we want our Pom back but the owner wouldn't even admit that they made a mistake which pissed off all my family members and we asked for refund on the ultrasound procedure they wouldn't even pay us back ...... These Unethical, uncaring, unsympathetic monsters...... How can they call themselves doctors. Read Less

This review has been long overdue. Having moved here from California last year, my husband and I were looking for a really good Vet for our two small bebes. (A mini poodle, and a chihuahua mix). Thank goodness for Yelp!Dr. J. Rana is a wonderful Veterinarian. He is very patient and knowledgeable. He takes time seeing his clients and answers every questions you might have. Dr Rana is the best and nicest vet i have ever met. He's very responsible and knowledgable. He has done everything he could to help my cat. My cat boy was suspected to have lymphoma and he suggest me tests after he touched my cat's belly. Then by xray there's really a tumor inside. Also he found out my cat's real age( which the previous doctors couldn't identify). Do come here if your dog or cat has any problem. I trust him a lot. Read Less

Dr. Rana, Connie and all the staff at Lansdowne Animal Hospital are absolutely amazing. I give this place my highest recommendation and cannot say enough about their kindness.  My family and I went to Dr.Rana because our 12 year old Shiba Inu started having seizures and we were pretty distraught. My parents took our dog to the Garden City vet once and had such a bad experience that we decided to try a new place. Firstly, Connie in the front-office speaks Mandarin which helped greatly because my parents didn't feel comfortable communication in English all the time. This was a definite plus as I didn't have to translate everything.Dr.Rana is one of the most patient and empathetic veterinarian, and person for that matter that I've ever met. Even I was getting tired of listening to my parents ask the same questions about our dog and treatment options, but I think he understood that treating or taking care of the owners is just as important as the pet. My parents sometimes called the clinic two or three times a day when the seizures were getting worse, and Dr.Rana and his staff never once lost patience. They even called us to check on our dog Raine every time we changed medications or dosages -- what service!In the end, we exhausted all options and our dog passed away (likely a brain hemorrhage) but Dr. Rana helped us do what we could for him. Him and his staff took care of everything when our dog passed even though we had no appointment. They also let my mother stay behind for a long time to stay her goodbyes, never rushing her. I wasn't around when this happened so I'm even more thankful that our dog and my parents were treated so well. In terms of checkups and treatment, Dr. Rana listened to the particulars of our dog's symptoms and didn't brush off what we told him; he took the time to explain everything to us. He also recommended new and tested medication that just became available and was meticulous in the checkups (checking the heart rate..etc). I was also in the x-ray area with my dog when he had to be sedated for some tests and I saw how the other pets were treated gently and with care.We met the other vet and he seemed very nice though we didn't work with him directly.Overall, I'd give 6 stars if I could.
