Don't be fooled by Dr Victor's age and experience. I took my small dog there with a respiratory issue and hoping to get a diagnosis. After spending over $1000 and 5 visits along with exrays he had no answers. He just prescribed different medications hoping it would help. Being frustrated and watching my dogs symptoms get worse fearing the lose of my little guy I wanted a second opinion. I went to another local vet, and within an hour I had answers and medication from a very young and intuitive veterinarian. Please be cautiously optimistic when using Beacon Animal Hospital Read Less

My husband and I recently expanded our family by adding a australian shepherd. We think he is pretty amazing. Our young fellow was in for a well puppy visit and we were very impressed with the clinic! Molly one of the vet techs was down on the floor greeting our little one. Her greeting was calm and affectionate. Dr Victor Negrea took a few extra minutes to greet and bond with our puppy before starting the exam. He patiently answered all our questions. at the end of the visit we were provided with a comprehensive summary. Read Less

Words can not express my gratitude to this place. My dog was quite sick, and I didn't know what to do. I was new to town and didn't have a veterinarian here. To be honest, I chose Beacon Pet Hospital because they could get me in on short notice. They made a long term customer out of me today. The doctor took such good care of my dog and was very gentle with him during a less than comfortable exam. Additionally, he did a phenomenal job of explaining to me everything that was happening. I can not say enough good things. Thank you Beacon Pet Hospital! Read Less

My husband and I were referred to Dr. Victor Negrea to have some dental work on our dog Drizzy. On the day of Drizzys initial appointment we also brought our other dog Riri in as well. Upon arriving to the clinic both dogs, who are usually very scared and nervous being in new places especially at the vet, were very calm and relaxed. Dr. Victor Negrea made Drizzy feel very comfortable prior to his exam and we could tell Dr. Negrea has a lot of pride in what he does. When we brought Drizzy back for his dental surgery again Dr. Negrea made sure Drizzy was very calm comfortable for the whole experience. We picked him up later that day and although he was a little out of it from the medication was still his happy little self. He never seemed to be in any pain after the appointment and the following day the staff had also called to check on him. Which was so thoughtful of them. We will definitely be recommending Beacon Pet Hospital to our friends and family. Thank you again for taking care of Drizzy! Jeni & Cote Read Less

I went to Beacon Pet Hospital and saw Dr Victor Negrea after the most horrific experience with another vet. Dr Negrea and his staff were absolutely AMAZING, they welcomed us in and were so wonderful with our Simba. Dr Negrea saved our cat, he also did it in a way that was so affordable. This is the only vet I have ever met that has put so much love and kindness towards my pet(s) as well as keeping cost extremely low. We had such an extreme surgery performed on our Simba that would have cost double or triple what Beacon Cat Hospital cost. I am so grateful for all of you guys there and WILL and DO recommend them to everyone. For those of you whom think he is pricy or rude I have to say in my opinion YOU ARE CRAZY. I have been a client at the Beacon Cat Hospital since 1994. I have never received anything short of dedicated and caring service. In 2007, my beloved guy "Ice" was going down-hill in a hurry. He was experiencing seizures from time to time. Dr. Ellen Guttormson did what she could at the office, but it was clear that he needed care on a 24/7 basis. She actually took him home with her, where he lived in her bathtub for about a week. She nursed him back to health, and a few days after returning to the office, he was fit to come home. With proper medication for hyperthyroidism, which isn't uncommon, he was able to enjoy a very reasonable quality of life for, what turned out to be, almost another 4 years. At that point he was almost 17, and literally over-night stopped eating. Drinking anything at all was a struggle. Dr. Guttormson discovered a very aggressive tumor in his mouth/throat. The tumor was basically asphyxiating him. Taking in to account his good life and his age, and above all, the magnitude of the tumor, we both agreed that it was time to end it humanely. She treated both of us with the utmost of dignity and respect during the procedure. I am 50 years of age and have kept many cats over 40 of those years. I currently have 3 joyous balls of fur whom are the loves of my life. My family. My sanctuary. My unconditional friends. I would encourage anyone who truly loves their cat to seek professional veterinary care at the Beacon Cat Hospital. True love means the issue of money goes out the window. For those who can't afford a whopper bill for services rendered, there is financial assistance available. Seek and you will likely find. When "Ice" was home after the bathtub stay, I received a bill for a little under $1,000. I did not have the means to pay any of it immediately. Dr. Guttormson knew this and she stepped forward and offered me credit for the whole amount. It was about two weeks until I could pay the whole bill. It was paid in full when I said it would be. Since then, and right up to this day, I have a line of credit at B.C.H., even through the change of ownership. To me, that's a genuine display from the heart from those who truly care. Read Less

We have 4 indoor cats that we absolutely adore and have been seeing Dr. Negrea since the previous doctor sold the business, which was later in 2016. When we met him, we could tell immediately that he had a true love for animals and was very tender and caring toward our cats. Since that first visit we have had a handful of other visits as one of our aging cats needed some help and we also adopted a young rescue kitty who came from out of province and needed some added care. As cat owners for nearly 20 years and who have had 4 different vets over that time, we can absolutely state that Dr. Negrea is hands down the most caring, friendly and pleasant person we have had the pleasure of tending to our cats. His office staff are exceptional and they really enhance his ability to provide care. We also purchase food from them and when needed medicine from his well stocked location. We also want to add, that we are always reluctant to medicate our cats unless absolutely required and what we appreciate about Dr. Negrea is that before he looks to prescribe a medicine, he looks to food options and more natural remedies. As an example, we had an older cat who had the makings of crystals in his urine. He could have prescribed medicine, but instead he recommended starting with cranberry pills and a diet adjustment. This really meant a lot to us as he was clearly looking at the best way for our cat and in the end, the changes really helped without going to a medicine. The other thing we witnessed has been his willingness to help cats that literally are in rough shape and abandoned. He looks to give them a new lease on life and the care and dedication he shows and how he talks about them is nothing short of touching. This is a man who really cares and loves animals and it shows in how he conducts himself at all of our visits. We trust the doctor and his advice. He is pragmatic, friendly and really considers the best for the fuzzy patient, while giving you all of the options to make the best choice. I know it was mentioned earlier in the review, but the office staff are just such a delight to work with and are all so caring as well, often calling to follow up on how our cats are doing. The local community is so lucky to have such an exceptional team available to care for their animals and I know he sees more animals than just cats, such as dogs and many smaller creatures too. We would highly recommend him to anyone who has animals that they love as they can rest assured that he will care for them in the way that you would want and he is someone who truly has a passion and love for all of his patients. I want to tell you a story that will demonstrate the exceptional care your feline babies will receive from Doctor Victor Negrea and his team at Beacon Cat Hospital in Sidney, BC. A week ago Monday I call the hospital at 8:30 am. Blossom was continuing to sneeze and had stopped eating. Doctor Victor answered the phone himself. He told me to bring her right in. She was a very sick kitty needing fluids and hospital care. During the week that followed, he and his staff accepted me onto their team. I was able to feed and love her up three times a day. Doctor Victor stayed late so I could feed her after supper. At night he monitored her from home using a Web Cam. He pulled out all the stops to heal my tiny beautiful lilac Siamese. He ordered special antibiotics from a compounding pharmacy for her and even considered an oxygen tent. On her last day, with his approval, I took Shana, an Oriental Shorthair, and Blossom's best friend, to visit thinking it might spark her. They had a great chat. Blossom died in my arms that Sunday morning with Shana nearby. The kind doctor and I were both shocked. One rarely gets the opportunity to really know your vet. During Blossoms illness I learned that Doctor Victor is a skilled, knowledgeable and innovative clinician, dedicated to his profession. But more than that, he treats his furring patients with such tenderness and dignity and his clients with respect and compassion. I will be forever grateful to Doctor Victor and his staff for the care they gave Blossom. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Doctor Victor Negrea and BCH. I trust him implicitly with the health and wellness of the two remaining members of my furry family, Shana and Dmitri. If you are reading this review right now then you are probably trying to decide which cat hospital is the best for your pet. You don't need to look any further. Beacon Cat Hospital is the absolute best hospital ever from the most amazingly talented and huge hearted vet Dr Ellen Guttormson to Molly at the front desk that took my frantic call on August 20th.   On August 19th, my wife and I were bicycling from Fulford Harbour on Salt Spring Island to Ruckle Beach for some end of summer camping when we discovered two very small abandoned kittens in a blackberry bush. We tried to get them to a vet hospital but it was already late in the day and no one was open. Including the emergency shelter which just had an answering service. By sheer miracle we had some canned tuna with us so we were able to keep them alive until we could get a ferry out in the morning and get to Schwartz Bay. By that time they needed medical attention right away I tried calling one hospital near Schwartz Bay but they were closed. I tried another in Sydney but was told that the doctor was fully booked!  This was an emergency darn it!  I then called Beacon Cat Hospital and spoke to Molly. What a Jem she is. She told me yes, please bring these little kitties in right away and they will do everything they can to help out. We did and not only did they help feed them and clean them up but Ellen even brought them to her home to recover!!  Unbelievable service!  You tell me of another vet you know that would take care of your kitty with love and compassion like this. Even though we live on the North Shore of the mainland. We will definitely be back!  Give these amazing people a chance at taking care of your loved ones. If you are like us, you will be totally amazed by the level of service you will receive and your kitty will agree. Read Less

We were on our boat in Port of Sidney Marina on a Saturday when our elderly cat suddenly became ill. We found the Beacon Cat Hospital in a telephone directory. The doctor and assistants at Beacon Cat Hospital worked overtime, tested and diagnosed a chronic illness, but one that can be treated. We were sent on our way with hope, calming collars, and a new  type of food. The treatment has been successful. We appreciated the staff's professionalism and warmth. We felt welcome right from our first contact. Our cat was coddled. We wish we lived closer, so we could make BCH our own vet. Read Less

The only vet I will ever go to! Best service and care we have ever experienced. We see Doctor Victor Negrea and we are so thankful for him and the staff.

Read Less

This team of Doctors and Assistants is outstanding in their care and attention. We brought our two elderly house cats in for a geriatric exam and were treated with the utmost respect and care. When things took a turn for the worse as is inevitable with older animals, Dr. Veronica and Lindsay helped us get through the end of life for our sweet girl, with respect and compassion. We cannot speak highly enough about our experience at the Beacon Cat Hospital. Thank you. Read Less
