Used a needle too big for our dog when giving shots to him, left a big bump where the injection site was. Our dog has been terrified of vets since. Edit: the vet actually admitted he used the wrong needle size, because our dog yelped when he gave it to him. Our dog had been fine with vets before and never had a problem with getting vaccinated. Afterwards we went to another vet because our dog had a bump where the vaccine was given and that vet said it was given in the wrong spot. So it’s not a reaction to the vaccine, it’s vet error. As well, I went back last year with my cat to get her yearly checkup and shots. Fleas really like her so I asked if there was a different treatment than monthly advantage, because it wasn’t cutting it(my cat is on revolution now and her flea problems are gone). The lady at the desk asked if I was treating her every month repeatedly, which I said I was and she just responded to keep treating her every month with advantage as if I was lying. I also told her my cat had an allergic reaction to a vaccine the year prior and I wouldn’t be getting that one. To which she questioned if my cat really had an allergic reaction, implying that it’s normal for cats to behave differently after a shot. While I know there are normal side effects after a shot, these were not (she was hiding, not eating or drinking for a day, hissing at me), I told her the reaction was not normal and she dismissed me. When my cat finally got to see the vet he made NO effort to calm her down or even acknowledge her presence. He also questioned multiple times if I was treating her for fleas regularly, once again I said yes. I asked him if there was a different type of treatment, and he said keep treating her with advantage it takes a while to work (she had been on it since she was a kitten- 3years). Then he slightly laughed at my cat (she was still terrified of him) and told me to grab her so he could give the shot, after he did he left. I'm not one to write reviews but felt compelled to do so after my amazing experience with City Petcare. I was referred to this vet clinic by a great rescue group who said my vet was overcharging me on a quote for dental for my chihuahua Cocoa. She had raunchy breath for s few months. I didn't really want to go elsewhere after our positive experience with our vet that we used since getting Cocoa from the Surrey animal resource centre in 2013. The quote we had from our original vet was $1075 without extractions for cleaning, sedation, etc. On top of this extractions were an additional $100 with this other vet.  I called City Petcare on Tuesday. They offered a free consult, visit, and quote. We took Cocoa in and met with two amazing vet assistants at the desk. We were then ushered into the vet office and met with Dr. Bassi who was great. My husband and I were reluctant to sedate our 5lb dog and had nightmares that she may not wake up.  He reassured us that Cocoa could withstand the sedation after a free thourough check up.We reluctantly bit the bullet and had Cocoas dental performed on Fridsy. I was a basket case. The vet tech called twice to say Cocoa was in surgery and that she needed six extractions. She checked that we would be ok with additional fees associated. We said yes. I requested that they look at her bum since she always like to chomp at it.  We received a second call to say Cocoa was coming out of sedation and doing well. We picked her up and brought her home. She seemed ok. I opened her mouth and her teeth are whiter than snow. I can see the sutures but they don't seem to bother her. Cocoa was given a weeks worth of bacterial fighting Meds in pre-filled syringes. She was also given four days of pain Meds. She had the anal glands cleaned. At the end of the day if I went to the other vet it would have been a $1700 bill. At City Petcare it was $530 with taxes including, extractions, Meds, bum check up and sedation. To top it all off, the vet tech called twenty minutes ago to check on Cocoa. All I can say is wow. If you're looking for a vet that encompasses caring and ethical take your pet here. Read Less

If you go to their website and sign up for the free consultation and nail trimming, you won't get a call. So, if you go in or call like I did. They'll try and charge you for it. I ended up not having to pay, but it's uncomfortable to be questioned where I saw it when it's clearly on their own website. (And about 5 reviews below, it has a post from the owner saying that first visits are free!!!) Then I was told that the deworming would be free, so I agreed to it. But, when I was leaving (another receptionist/tech) told me it was not so I had to pay for it. I already had to argue for the free consultation, so I just gave up on that but she wasn't even going to ask the other tech anyways. I would have had to push harder it. My tiny cat has never been so traumatized by getting shots and I've had her for 10 years. The first was okay, but the second one either backwashed out, or pierced through two parts of her skin so the liquid went through to her fur. She cried like I'd never heard for two solid minutes. I have a very gentle and easy going cat, so it wasn't like she was fighting him at all. Maybe they're better with dogs or it was a very very off day. My first visit to City Petcare. I went to another animal hospital further down King George Blvd and was gouged with fees. Asked for dental for my cat and was quoted $700 for dental and with extractions $1000. At City Petcare, I was quoted around $360 with $15 to $125 each extraction. The difference s huge!  BTW first visit consultation fee is waived which is $29. If you are looking for a clean, fair priced vet clinic, go here. Dr. Basi is the only vet that works in your pet, noone else. Hours open is great also. I'm planning to continue to take my cat there for treatments. Read Less

Love Dr. Bassi and his staff. They truly care about the animals well being and the owners (when we freak out about our pets!) They don't up sell you on anything and they even reccomended against a stomach surgery on our bulldog when another vet in Surrey said we have no choice. I would not trust anyone else with our dogs! The vet is so so clean you can eat off the floor! Nicole will even offer you a tour because it's so clean! Read Less

Dr Basi and staff are wonderful, warm professionals. I have had several visits with both canine and feline and never doubted diagnosis, treatment or recommendations from them. My animals love the staff, they don't fear a trip to the vet and I have had to place my trust in Dr Basi with my dogs life and I could t ask for a better clinic. EVERYONE BE AWARE OF THIS PLACE. Receptionist Marjorie (short with facial piercings) is incredibly rude and unhelpful. If you're a female, you can expect her to treat you like crap. She only serves men with respect as I have seen this first hand with my own eyes. When she answers the office phone, she speaks with so much attitude and will not answer your questions without getting annoyed. On top of that she was so mean to my dog. She threw him on his back and grabbed his mouth so roughly. I reported this to the office manager who was no help and completely backed up her "friend." The Vet is not any better. He totally scammed me for unnecessary scans and medications. This was confirmed by my new Vet. We love are pets and should not be taken advantage of at weak moments. We should all be treated with respect and honesty. This is not the place to go if you love your animals. Read Less

We are looking for a new vet for our beautiful black medium long maned Persian cat. After our first visit, Chelsea told my dad and myself that his booster shot in a month's time would be of no cost to us and FREE. During our second visit, Chelsea was more business like with us; she was not as friendly and welcoming like our first visit. At the end of Jake's second round of vaccinations, we were charged around $80 when we were only expecting to pay for the grooming comb which was a little over $26. Chelsea did speak to Dr. Bassi and we did get 10% off for Jake's shots. I checked out the Newton Animal Hospital across from Value Village on King George Boulevard. The front staff seemed sincere, transparent, and professional. Chantel addressed my questions and concerns with caring and compassion. My family know longer trusts City Petcare Hospital; they do not even require consent forms for treatment....I hope to bring Jake into Newton Animal Hospital or another competitive vet for his annual checkup and when he needs medical care in the future. Came here with our tiny pup because she kept licking her foot and developed a rash/open wound. She was feisty and refused to cooperate, but vet and staff knew exactly how to handle the situation. A sedative and some minutes later, she was passed out, were able to shave her foot, and we were finally able to see the wound. Cone, cream, anti-biotics, and two weeks later -- she was good as new. Dr. Bassi saved my dog's life!!! He's a 12 year old diabetic and was close to death: lab results were off the charts; kidney and bladder stones- which eventually lead him to constantly puke, and he ruptured his bladder which caused him to scream. Thinking I had to put him down, City Petcare Hospital gave our family hope saying there's a surgical option. Although there was a chance of him not surviving, we took that option anyways and miraculously, he survived the procedure! We were overwhelmed with joy to take him home after a few days. I scheduled my dog, Miko in for an appointment the day of and it was great that they were able to accommodate us on short notice. The staff are very caring, helpful and just AMAZING! I know my dog very well. And one day woke up to her acting strangely. I didn't know why but felt I needed to see someone for help. I came to this clinic after being told by a few others nothing was wrong and it would pass. Dr. B took the extra time to run more tests and because of this my dog is alive today.
