Extraordinary care , attention and kindness was given to our dog Lilly by Dr. Emma Park and all the staff at West Kootenay animal hospital!! We were visiting family when our dog had an attack of pancreatitis. We are not a client of this hospital, but none the less they managed to work her visit in - between many other patients - and cared for her as soon as possible. Dr. Park is very professional and caring and has a wonderful way of explaining both the illness and the required medical care that is needed for Lilly. It is very clear by her manner that she is devoted and simply loves animals and caring for them. THANK YOU so very much for your helping Lilly and us. Linda & Barry Weaver Read Less

A while ago we brought our bull mastiff in because she had a massive infection in her uterus. After a while, "Dr Crystal" finally started to give us information. When the info was given to us, she was more worried about money. She held a interac fob in front of us like it was a dog toy. We were given options of surgery for our dog. It was going to cost just about $5000 with only a 50/50 chance of survival. She made it seem like they were the only vets that could do this surgery. Unless we went to the states to get it done. Then she held the interac fob in our faces. Then "Dr Crystal" told us that the other option was to put the dog down with a cost of $500 plus the cost of cremation. Then she continued to hold the interac fob in front of us. She made it seem like it was all about money. And not the health and surgery for our dog. They wouldn't even budge on the cost of surgery.  "Dr. Crystal" forced us into putting our dog down. Our family dog. I'll never take or support this veterinarian or pet hospital again. Even after we put the dog down we were asked to see our dog one last time. After about 30 seconds...there was "Dr. Crystal" with her interac fob. Just waiting to get paid. It was disgusting on there attitudes and service. Totally disgusted with "Dr. Crystal". You should be ashamed. Read Less

Completely disgusted with this vet. My dog is riddled with cancer, our regular vet is in Nelson. She needs to be put down. We called West Kootenay because we didn't want my dog to spend an uncomfortable 45 minutes in a car. We offered to send them all of our vets information and they refused saying they would have to do their own assessment and would offer their own treatment. We had a tumour tested that came back as aggressive malignant breast cancer. My dog is 11. Even with all if this information they said no. I'm in shock because 8 years ago we put down a family dog there that had never been previously treated and although I knew they were a huge rip off they made us feel welcome at the time. I'm assuming that veterinarian has either left or retired. Although unpleasant putting animals down is a huge chunk of what vet's do. I'm sickened they would want us to spend more money and put our dog through more hell just to tell us she's dying.Read Less

I brought my dog Tango in for an emergency dislocated hip. The staff was very helpful and was able to look at Tango after hours and went above and beyond with being caring. The low review is because I found the communication lacking. After Tango's hip popped out again the same night the issue of his hip dysplasia (shallow hips) was brought up. I felt like I never had all of the facts before originally making a decision for care, since his shallow hips were only brought up after the staff had attempted to relocate his hip. I brought up the issue with the clinic owners and was told they didn't think they had done anything wrong and to basically take a hike. I also found after asking around the price I was charged was high compared to other veterinary clinics in the area ($1,200 to relocate his hip plus and extra $250 for additional x-rays before surgery). After spending a painful two weeks with a dislocated hip Tango was able to have reconstructive hip surgery in Kelowna. He is doing a lot better now and is expected to make a full recovery. I will not be going back to the WKAH. Read Less

The team at West Kootenay Animal Hospital are one in a million. They consistently go above and beyond to meet my pet's complex medical needs-- even when it means doing after hours research, spending extra time in the exam room to answer my endless questions, and to phone us during their time off to follow up & check in. This is a team of people who are *truly* in the business because they love animals and believe (as I do) that they are members of the family, who deserve the BEST medical care & attention. I recently relocated to The Kootenays from Vancouver BC, and one of the top things on my priority list when settling in was finding a good local vet. My dogs mean the absolute world to me, and quality veterinary care is of the utmost importance. I'll admit:: I have been known to be pretty picky and hard to please with past vets. My standards are extremely high. With that said, I've been VERY impressed with West Kootenay. I've been in to the clinic twice now, and have seen two of their doctors.. Each experience from start to finish was absolutely lovely. The clinic itself is very new, clean, and inviting. You feel really comfortable the moment you walk in the door. The receptionists are kind and considerate-- very polite and very helpful. Most importantly! The doctors were knowledgable, without being condensing or rude. They LISTENED to what I had to say about my dog's health, my concerns, and my ideas. They offered insightful, helpful advice. They even went above and beyond to get second opinions on a sticky health issue with my french bulldog-- emailing a dental specialist for another opinion, and calling me after hours, from her own home, to fill me in and keep me in the loop. I can't tell you how much I appreciate a Veterinarian who treats my pets and I with dignity, respect and consideration. I have not yet had to bring my pets in here for any serious medical emergencies (and knock on wood that I never have to!) but so far, every experience I've had with the West Kootenay meets and exceeds my extremely high expectations. I feel like I can really trust them with my beloved dogs... and that's the highest compliment I could ever give a veterinarian.

I cannot recommend them enough! Read Less

Read Less
