I would never recommend this animal hospital to anyone... ok let's start, The nurse's are very friendly and will try to answer all your questions but there is a new nurse recently training and i would never trust her with my dog you will be able to spot her out if you still decide to go there after reading my review. I think the doctor is very misleading when I first started to bring my dog there in October his ears were red, swollen, and a smell to them so she gave him 4 different antibiotics the were all inexpensive after he was done all those antibiotics I took him back for just a check up his ears seemed to be clear but I took some more pills for itching just in case he's still itching them. I was half way through that medication when he started to drop a lot of weight, drinking a lot of water, and barley eating and since he's a pug weight loss is very noticeable. I Honesty still think those red pills made him the way he was so I took him back asked about the pills she gave him and she denies the pills had anything to do with any of his symptoms so she looked at him and she wanted to get a blood test going 130$. So I got blood work done on Pierre and it came back that he has diabetes, she wanted to use the remainder blood to check if it's for sure diabetes but that's another 60$ i trusted her, she also made me sign the tests just so it won't fall back on her if it turns out the diagnostic is wrong??! So she was helpful on how to give your dog the insulin but she only said do it once a day on 4 units. When December hit it seemed like my dog wasn't gaining any weight, still drinking tons of water and not so much eating he also had his lymph node swollen causing his hind leg to swell up he could barley even walk he was in pain he also had a wound open up by his groin area I took him back and she said he could have cancer she was 90% sure he won't come back from this so he needs an ultrasound and that's just an ultrasound no other test 455$ plus tax, she even said either get an ultrasound or put him down to stop his suffering I left there with pain medication and my world crashing down, they also said my dog couldn't be on pain medication for long because it affects other organs in the body. I finally called the spca and arranged for a second opinion I took my dog there and instead of paying 455$ for 1 test I did another blood test to see where his glucose level was at, a x-ray, and a sample of the open wound all for 360$ they gave him more pain medication one of the nurse's there has a boxer that has been on pain medication since it's been 5 and now it's 10. I recently got two test back the first the glucose level the doctor said he should be given insulin twice a day considering it only lasts for 12 hours and to do 3/ units. He also said the 1st Avenue hospital wanted him to fax over the new results when I haven't even contacted them since I've gone to the spca, he thought that was weird and so did I, I said fax it over I want them to know how they made a huge mistake! Scammers ! I recently got the other results of the open wound turns out Pierre has a staph infection it's bacteria that is commonly around grass, food, other animals. He has to take medication for it for 2 weeks! This woman at the 1st Avenue hospital told me an ultimatum ultrasound or put my dog down! This is a lesson people always always! Get a second opinion never lose hope! I will never go to 1st Avenue animal hospital ever again and I hope YOU never do as well. Save your time, money and headache and get proper care for your animal because this is not the place to get that done. Read Less
